Floating abscess (Fuju) arises from anger and emotional stagnation, combined with excessive mental exertion, leading to pathological changes in the flow of Qi. Initially, it appears on the neck or in the axilla, sized like two fingers, without distinct head or tail boundaries. It causes chills and fever, nausea, and vomiting. The root of the disease lies in the Gallbladder (Dan).
For treating floating abscess manifesting on the neck and axilla, presenting as a hard, knotted mass the size of two fingers, accompanied by alternating cold and heat in the four limbs, the Rhinoceros Horn Powder Formula (Xijiao San Fang) is indicated.
Rhinoceros Horn Shavings (Xi Jiao Xie, 1 liang)
Akebia Stem (Mu Tong, 1.5 liang, crushed)
Red Peony Root (Chi Shao Yao, 1.5 liang)
Bupleurum Root (Chai Hu, 1.5 liang, radix removed)
Forsythia Fruit (Lian Qiao, 1 liang)
Immature Bitter Orange (Zhi Ke, 1.5 liang, bran-fried until slightly yellow, pith removed)
Platycodon Root (Jie Geng, 1.5 liang, radix removed)
Arctium Fruit (E Shi, 2 liang, fried until yellow)
Licorice Root (Gan Cao, 3 fen, honey-fried until slightly red, crushed)
For treating floating abscess arising on the neck or axilla, swelling and hardening like a finger, which eventually ulcerates and discharges pus, the Phytolacca Root Powder Formula (Shanglu San Fang) is used.
Phytolacca Root (Shang Lu, 1 liang)
Azurite (Ceng Qing, 1 fen, finely ground)
Scutellaria Root (Huang Qin, 1 liang)
Saposhnikovia Root (Fang Feng, 1 liang, radix removed)
Alum (Bai Fan, 1 liang, calcined until liquid evaporates)
Ginseng Root (Ren Shen, 1 liang)
Astragalus Root (Huang Qi, 1 liang, finely ground)
Red Peony Root (Chi Shao Yao, 1 liang, finely ground)
Fox Bone (Li Gu, 1 liang, roasted, stir-fried with glutinous rice until rice turns yellow, then rice discarded)
Mylabris (Ban Mao, 10 pieces, heads, feet, and wings removed)
The above herbs are pounded into a fine powder through a silk sieve, mixed thoroughly. Take one "yi" (a small measure) dose mixed with light vinegar on an empty stomach in the morning and before bed at night. After thirty days, reduce the dosage.
For treating floating abscess, the Rhinoceros Horn Pill Formula (Xijiao Wan Fang) is used.
Rhinoceros Horn Shavings (Xi Jiao Xie, 1 fen)
Leech (Shui Zhi, 1 fen, lightly fried until yellow)
Licorice Root (Gan Cao, 1 fen, honey-fried until slightly red, crushed)
Black Soybean (Hei Dou, half he, fried cooked, skin removed)
The above herbs are pounded and sieved into powder. Mix with refined honey to form pills the size of mung beans. Take three pills with warm wine on an empty stomach daily. By the third day, foul matter should be discharged in the urine, indicating the expulsion of pathogenic factors; stop medication thereafter. If discharge continues, do not cease medication. This method is highly effective.
For treating floating abscess where pus and fluid continue to drain after ulceration:
Realgar (Xiong Huang, 1 fen, finely ground)
Alum (Bai Fan, 1 fen, calcined to ash)
Gentian Root (Long Dan, 3 fen, radix removed)
Asarum Root (Xi Xin, half liang)
Rhubarb Root (Chuan Da Huang, half liang)
Euphorbia Lathyris Seed (Di Dan, half liang, stir-fried with glutinous rice until rice turns yellow)
Haloetuss Shell (Shi Jue Ming, 1 fen, finely ground)
Dipsacus Root (Xu Duan, 1 fen)
Kochia Root (Qin Jiao, 1 fen)
The above herbs are pounded into a fine powder through a silk sieve and applied to the affected area. Use four to five times daily.
