肠风下血这一病症，是由于脏腑劳损，气血失调，大肠中久积风冷之邪，中焦存在虚热，冷热相互攻冲，毒气留滞，传至下部，从而引发此病。这大多是因为坐卧时处于风湿之中，醉酒后行房事过度，或恣意食用猪肉、鸡肉、果实、羊肉及面食等酒食之毒所致。
治疗肠风引起的腹痛，下血不止的卷柏散方：
卷柏（一两）、当归（三分，锉碎后微炒）、黄芪（一两，锉碎）、白术（三分）、枳壳（二两，麸炒至微黄，去瓤）、（一方用）干姜（一两）。

Changfeng Xiexue (Intestinal Wind with Blood in Stool) is caused by exhaustion and damage to the Zang-Fu organs, disharmony of Qi and Blood, long-term accumulation of Wind-Cold in the Large Intestine, and deficiency-Heat in the Middle Jiao. The Cold and Heat attack each other, toxic Qi stagnates, transmits to the lower part, and results in this disease. It is mostly due to sitting or lying in Wind-Dampness, sexual intercourse after intoxication, or indulging in toxic foods such as pork, chicken, fruits, mutton, and wheat noodles.
