Any injury caused by a horse biting, trampling, or being pierced by horse bones, as well as injuries from being entangled or bound by horse reins, are all considered toxic sores. If swelling and pain lead to restlessness and oppression, it indicates that the toxin has entered the abdomen, which can also be fatal.
Formula for treating injuries from horse bites:
Ma Bian Shao (Caudex of Equi Cauda, five cun, calcined to ash) Zhu Zhi (Porcine Adipose, three [or two] liang) Xiong Shu Fen (Excrement of Mus musculus domesticus var. albus, fourteen pieces) Bai Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus, half liang)
Grind the above four herbs into a fine powder using a silk sieve. Mix with Zhu Zhi and apply to the bite site. Change the dressing twice daily.
Formula for treating prolapsed scrotum due to horse bite:
Manually reduce the prolapse back into place. Suture the wound using fine threads made from Sang Pi (Mori Cortex). Apply finely chopped Wu Ji Gan (Henedinis Corium) over the wound. Do not urinate immediately after the initial injury.
Formula for treating heart involvement due to toxin from horse bite:
Boil Chi Cai (Portulaca oleracea) and consume both the vegetable and the broth. This will lead to recovery.
Another formula:
Chi Cai Zi (Semen Portulacae Oleraceae)
Grind into a fine powder. Take one qian per dose at any time, mixed with warm wine.
Another formula:
Liao Lan Zhi (Jus Polygoni Tinctorii)
Take three large zhan. Add two large zhan of water, decoct until one large zhan remains. Take two he warm at any time. It is also effective for washing the sore externally.
Another formula:
Apply Ji Xue (Sanguis Galli) directly to the sore; this is very effective.
Formula for treating toxic, swollen, hot, and painful sores from horse bites and trampling:
Apply moxibustion to the center of the sore and the surrounding swelling area until healed.
Another formula:
Incise the rooster comb and drip three to five drops of blood into the sore. Use a hen if the horse was large, and a rooster if the horse was small.
Generally, if a person already has an open sore and rides a sweating horse, the dirt on the horse's hair, horse manure and urine, or sitting on a saddle pad made of horse skin, can introduce toxicity. The toxic fumes entering the sore cause swelling, pain, and heat. If the toxin enters the abdomen, it can also harm life.
For cases where a pre-existing sore is exposed to a sweating horse, whether due to horse hair entering the wound or merely steaming from the horse's breath, resulting in swelling, pain, and heat: if the toxin enters the abdomen, it is lethal.
Calcine Ma Bian Shao (Caudex of Equi Cauda) into powder, mix with Zhu Zhi (Porcine Adipose), and apply topically.
Formula for treating swelling caused by horse sweat or hair entering a pre-existing sore:
Drink strong wine until intoxicated; this will lead to recovery.
Formula for treating pain caused by horse sweat entering a sore:
Burn Ji Mao (Penna Galli) into powder. Take one qian with water, three times daily, until cured.
Another formula:
Decoct Dou Chi (Faber Semen Preparatum) to make a soup. Soak the affected area while hot; replace when cool.
Formula for treating generalized body pain caused by riding a sweating horse with a prior moxibustion wound exposed to horse sweat vapor:
Cut Chi Xian Cai (Amaranthus tricolor) and boil in water to extract juice. Wash the affected area with the juice. Recovery is immediate. Harvesting on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month yields the best results.
Formula for sudden exposure to horse sweat fear:
Carry one stalk of Cong Bai (Scallion White) on one's clothing; this prevents harm.
Formula for severe swelling and pain due to horse sweat and hair entering a sore:
Soak the sore in water, changing the water frequently until healed.
Another formula:
Apply Duan Shi Mo (Calcareous Earth Powder) to the affected area until cured.
