(This prescription originates from Mr. Du of Bagou in Tie Weng City, also known as Zhengyi Dan.) This medicine harmonizes the two Qi of Yin and Yang, balances and coordinates Yin and Yang, and absorbs the harmonious Qi of Heaven and Earth. It is a formula for the mutual interaction of Water and Fire (Shuihuo Jiji), with properties that can be cold or hot, and effects that can be slow or rapid. It is effective in treating conditions where Ying and Wei (Defensive and Nutritive Qi) fail to nourish each other, Heart and Kidney fail to ascend and descend, excess above and deficiency below, Qi syncope, cold pain in the heart and abdomen, and deficiency-slipperyness of the Zang-Fu organs. Regardless of gender, age, or condition, for any critical syndrome where Stomach Qi remains, recovery is assured. It tonifies deficiencies, supports weakness, nourishes Yin, and assists Yang, yielding exceptional efficacy.
Nixiaoshi (Saltpeter, 1 liang): Grind together with Liuhuang (Sulfur) into a fine powder. Place in a Ding pot, stir constantly with a willow twig over low heat until the Qi of Yin and Yang merge. Avoid excessive fire to prevent damaging the medicinal potency. Grind again to an extremely fine powder, named "Erqi Mo" (Two-Qi Powder). Taiyin Xuanjingshi (Taiyin Black Crystal Stone): Process by grinding and flying (levigation). Boshang Liuhuang (Imported Sulfur): Use transparent, aged sulfur. Wulingzhi (Trogopterus Dung) and Chenpi (Aged Tangerine Peel): Grind into fine powder. Add Xuanjingshi powder and Erqi Mo, mix well, and bind with good dripping vinegar paste into pills the size of pea seeds. Take 30 pills per dose on an empty stomach, swallowed with gruel; for severe cases, take 50 pills; children take 3-5 pills, newborns take 1 pill. For children with slow convulsive disease (Man Jing Feng) or persistent vomiting/diarrhea evolving into deficiency-wind tremors—attributed not to external wind but to impending exhaustion of Stomach Qi—crush 5 pills and administer with rice water. For elderly patients suffering from summerheat stagnation causing mental confusion, administer with Perilla Decoction. For postpartum women with blood rebellion causing chest oppression and syncope, continuous lochia, and leukorrhea (red and white discharge), administer with vinegar water. Regular use harmonizes Yin and Yang, benefits spirit, dissipates damp-cold in waist and kidneys, stops cold pain in abdomen and hypochondrium, showing immediate miraculous effects. It is suitable for various diseases where Yin-Yang differentiation is unclear. Its spiritual efficacy is too numerous to record.
(This prescription is from Baolin Zhenren Gu Boyang's *Treatise on Cold Damage*, also known as Jiaotai Dan.) It expels evil and assists righteousness, aids Yang, and connects with true Qi. It treats insufficiency of Yuan Qi, chaotic interaction of Yin pathogens, deviation of righteous Qi, excess above and deficiency below, failure of Qi to ascend and descend, shortness of breath, dizziness, weak heart-mind, dream-disturbed sleep, night sweats, abdominal and lower back pain; or deficiency-fire irritability, delirium, dry mouth, upper asthma, retching/vomiting, cholera with tendon retraction, irregular coughing/asthma. It also treats phlegm flooding, loss of consciousness, impending collapse of Yang, and cold limbs. In cases of cold damage with Yin excess, spontaneous sweating, cyanotic lips, and deep pulse, it is most appropriate. It also treats postpartum blood-qiang heat, irregular menstruation, leukorrhea, and abdominal pain. Regular use regulates Heart Fire, strengthens Kidney Water, and promotes appetite.
Shuiyin (Mercury). Liuhuang (Sulfur): Finely ground. Zhusha (Cinnabar): Finely ground. Heixi (Black Tin): Purified and weighed. Combine with Mercury to form cinnabar-like grains, 1 liang each. Using a black ceramic cup, melt Heixi over fire until liquid. Add Shuiyin, stir evenly with a willow branch. Add Zhusha, stir until no granular particles are visible. Let sit briefly. Add Liuhuang powder, stir rapidly until melted and homogeneous. If flames appear, extinguish with vinegar. Upon cooling, remove and grind to an extremely fine powder. Bind with glutinous rice flour paste into pills the size of mung beans. Take 20 pills per dose, increasing to 30, administered with salt water. This formula regulates the ascending and descending of Yin and Yang, facilitating the mutual interaction of Heart and Kidney. Administer on an empty stomach before meals with jujube decoction for miraculous effects indescribable.
