Take the white, rotten wooden boards from places where many people urinate at major intersections (calcined over charcoal, ground into fine powder), add a small amount of borneol (Bingpian), and sprinkle externally on the affected area.
Three jin of salt, stir-fried until hot, wrapped around the painful area; use another bag to step on with the foot, replacing as it cools, used every night until heat penetrates through the sole of the foot. Adding bark from the pagoda tree (Huaimu) for stir-frying is even better. Alternatively, heat old bricks until red-hot, quench them in foul-smelling rice-washing water once, wrap three bricks in cloth while hot, clamp between the knees, cover tightly with a cotton quilt, and replace as they cool; cure within three to five applications. Alternatively, consume decoction of Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) brewed in wine.
One teacup of black beans (Heidou), three qian of licorice root (Gancao), decocted into a thick liquid for oral administration.
Another prescription: Five qian of Huangbo (Phellodendri Cortex), decocted in water for oral administration; one or two doses can eradicate the root cause.
Fresh leaves of Impatiens balsamina (Fengxianhua) and Goji berry leaves (Gouqiyè), decocted together into a thick soup for fumigation and washing, and also freshly pounded and applied topically.
During an attack, severe swelling and pain in the feet and legs, caused by excessive alcohol consumption.
Four liang of Shaoxing wine lees (if unavailable, use local aged wine lees), one liang of pine needles (Songzhen/Songmao), pounded together, mixed with high-proof liquor, stir-fried, and applied hot as a compress. Wrap tightly with cloth; if it cools, reheat and apply again without interruption day and night, until pain ceases. One batch can be used for three applications; mild cases require three to five batches, severe cases more than ten batches to eradicate the root cause.
Another prescription: Consume Cangzhu (Atractylodis Rhizoma) decocted in wine; mobility is restored immediately.
Half a jin of yellow vinegar (diluted/spread out), spread on old silk fabric, wrap around the foot according to the size of the lesion while hot. The sole of the foot must touch the sock/wrapping; replace as it cools. Also apply to both palms. (For abdominal pain and muscle cramps in summer, see section on Cholera).
One qian of soot from the bottom of a cooking pot (Guodiyan), taken orally with wine. Alternatively, collect floating grass hanging on trees after river floods, decoct and wash the affected area. (This indicates extreme cold condition).
Longan seeds (remove the black skin, grind finely), mixed with sesame oil for topical application. Alternatively, wood ear mushrooms (Muer), dried until crisp and ground into powder, applied topically.
Another prescription: Three qian of camphor (Zhangnao), one qian of verdigris (Tonglü), pounded together with pork back fat (Zhubanyou), sandwiched between oil paper and applied to the affected area.
