If the eyes are red, swollen, and painful, remaining unable to open for several days:
Take a piece of fresh ginger (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), wash it clean, peel it, and scrape juice from it using an ancient copper coin to apply into the eye (it will be quite painful at first, but heals immediately after application). Alternatively, use one's own urine while it is still hot, dip a silk cloth in it, and wash the eye. (Discard the initial and final portions of the urine; use only the middle portion.)
Crush water chestnut (Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma) and extract its juice to form a powder (strain out the dregs), then apply the powder into the eye.
Old sparrow droppings (for males, use male sparrow droppings which are pointed and upright; for females, use female sparrow droppings which are round and inverted), grind them into fine powder, soak overnight in licorice root (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) water (discard the water and dregs), bake until dry, mix with the milk of a newborn boy, and apply using a rush pith (Junci Medulla) to eliminate the sensation.
Rust from a knife: add a few drops of cool water, grind up the rust using the tip of a chopstick to create rust-water, and frequently apply this into the eye.
The following prescriptions can also generally treat meat or other foreign bodies entering the eye:
Apply raw white honey (Apis Melliferae Mel) to the eyelids, lie supine for half a day, then wash off. Apply once daily. Or take three cherries, remove the pits...
Named "Rotting Margin Wind Eye" (a wind-pattern disorder characterized by ulceration and itching of the eyelid margins):
Take three qian of fresh verdigris (Cupri Acetas), grind into powder, thickenly mix with raw honey, and coat the inside of a coarse bowl. Burn mugwort leaves (Artemisiae Argyi Folium) to produce smoke, and fumigate the bowl covered over the smoke until the verdigris turns scorched black. Remove, allow to cool and solidify, mix evenly with human milk, steam over rice, and apply to the affected area for miraculous effect.
Apply hot cow dung (Bovis Felis Excrementum) to the eye area, several times a day (apply on the outside of closed eyelids).
If the white part of the eye suddenly turns black, eyelashes become hard as iron, the patient can drink and eat but cannot speak, appearing drunk-like (this is a blood stasis pattern):
Take two qian of Trogoptex Dung (Excrementum Trogopterori), grind into powder, and take with wine.
If nodules or fungous growths appear on the eyelids, hard and coagulated but painless:
Wrap the area with spider silk that has crossed over a roof (spiders pulling silk across roofs are called "crossing the river"); it will fall off.
Or use cherries...
Burn old ginger (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) and apply the heat compress to the Yintang point (EX-HN3, located between the eyebrows).
Apply purple gromwell root (Lithospermi Radix) juice into the eye.
Take the thickest section of Achyranthes Root (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) (approximately two cun long). The patient should chew it thoroughly into a paste themselves (chew on the right teeth for the left eye, and left teeth for the right eye). Spit it out, roll it into pills, and insert them into the inner and outer corners of both eyes. Tears will flow profusely, and within moments, mud and sand wrapped in the medicine will be discharged. Even if swelling and pain threaten blindness, immediate efficacy is achieved.
Grind high-quality ink (Ink Stick) thickly, dip a new brush into the ink, and apply to the inner corner of the eye. Close the eyes for a moment; the foreign body will naturally clump together and can be gently wiped out with fingers (ink juice also treats miscellaneous foreign bodies entering the eye and helps dissipate corneal opacity).
Another prescription: In a cup of boiling water, add a little salt and three qian of Alum (Alumen). Soak the tip of the tongue in the water for a moment; the filament will naturally fall into the water. Or take one he of hemp seed (Cannabis Semen), crush it, soak in a bowl of well water for a short while, stir evenly. Soak the tip of the tongue in the water; saliva foam will emerge, and the condition will heal.
