Apply a slice of Huangbai (Phellodendri Cortex) in the mouth every morning, and use saliva to wash the eyes.
Another prescription: When washing your face every morning, brush your teeth with stir-fried salt, rinse your mouth with cool water, spit the water into your palm to wash your eyes, and then use the face-washing water to wash both eyes thoroughly. Do this daily, and you will never suffer from eye diseases.
For polyps growing on the eyes, causing itching or pain:
Take one good pear, crush it to extract juice. Wrap a small amount of Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizome) in cotton, soak it in the pear juice, and instill it into the eyes while lying supine.
Scrape the end of fingernails with a knife to obtain powder, mix with saliva, and instill into the eyes; the inverted eyelashes will naturally gather and come out. Alternatively, instill mustard juice into the eyes.
Another prescription: Instill cabbage juice into the eyes. Or grind concentrated ink and instill it, using a rush pith (dengcao) to guide the lashes out.
Take fingernails from the left hand, shave them into powder, dip a rush pith (dengcao) into the powder, and instill into the eyes once or twice for immediate removal.
Wash the area with decoction made from barley.
Crush Dicentrae Radix (Dican, earthworm-like insect) and apply it topically; the object will be expelled immediately.
Mix three qian of Chao Qingfan (Calcined Alum) and six qian of yellow soil into a fine powder. Blend well-water (Jinghua Shui) to form two cakes the size of an eye. First, clean the eyes with water, then paste a piece of paper over the eyes. Place the medicinal cake on the paper. Have the patient lie supine, moisten the cake with clear water, and re-moisten when dry. After two to three hours, pain ceases and swelling subsides. Alternatively, crush Wusong (Tremella fuciformis growing on tiles) and spread it on paper, applying it to the eyelids; replace when dry.
Mix three qian of Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) powder with fresh cold water, and apply to the midpoint between the eyebrows and both eyelids. Re-moisten with water when dry.
For red, swollen eyes with nebula and pain: Crush Qicai Gen (Shepherd's Purse Root) to extract juice and instill into the eyes. Or soak black beans in water overnight, grind them finely with the skin, and apply to the eyes before sleeping.
Another prescription: Applying tofu is also effective. If the whites of the eyes are slightly red, urgently tie a three-cun long blue cotton thread around the base of the middle finger. For both men and women, use the left hand; this will not harm the eyes.
Grind BaiFan (Alumen) in Licorice water (Gancao Shui) and apply to the eyelids.
Powder Wu Ming Yi (Hematite), roll it in paper, ignite, blow out the flame, and smoke the eyes with the smoke; the inverted lashes will stand up naturally. Pluck out the inverted lashes, and instill blood from lice into the eyes. After several times, it will heal. Alternatively, calcinate Qingyan (Green Salt), cover with a bowl on the ground to remove fire qi, grind finely, and take half a cup of warm hot water infusion every five minutes. Or, in winter, collect dried Cangsheng (likely referring to a specific dried plant or moss found on walls, literally "dry green rope") from the wall, grind into powder, and sniff it into the nose occasionally. (Do not pluck the eyelashes; if plucked, they will grow back harder and more curled, becoming a lifelong...)
