Postpartum wind-stroke, characterized by lockjaw (trismus), loss of consciousness, closure of the mouth and teeth, and convulsions of the limbs, should be treated with Juqing Guye San. When postpartum blood is severely depleted and meridians are empty, if labor is undertaken too early, allowing wind-pathogen to enter through the deficiency, Xiaoxuming Tang or Yufeng Tang may be used. For wind-stroke presenting with opisthotonos (back arching like a bow) and surging phlegm-saliva, Da Dou Zi Tang is indicated.

Postpartum blood syncope (xue yun) and qi collapse (qi tuo) should be treated separately.
Blood syncope is an excess syndrome, primarily treated by expelling blood stasis. This occurs because lochia fails to discharge, causing evil blood to rush upward to the heart, resulting in fullness and urgency below the heart, coma, lockjaw, and loss of consciousness. Do not lay the patient flat; immediately administer Shenghua Tang, Shixiao Dan, or Foshou San.
Qi collapse is a deficiency syndrome, primarily treated by tonifying upright qi. This results from inherent weakness, excessive exertion during delivery, and excessive blood loss, leading to fainting and unconsciousness. In mild deficiency, slight restlessness resolves quickly; in severe deficiency, exhaustion of blood leads to death. If one observes pale complexion, open mouth, spontaneous sweating, cold and cold extremities, and extremely faint pulse in all six positions, this is qi collapse. Life and death are decided in an instant. Do not let the patient lie down; have an assistant hold the patient's hair, and immediately administer large doses of Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Angelicae Sinensis Radix (Danggui), and Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata (Fuzi) to restore yang, or use Zengsun Siwu Tang. Decoct until thick, and slowly instill into the mouth. As long as it can be swallowed, life can be saved. If mistakenly identified as blood syncope and blood-moving herbs are administered, death will be hastened. Therefore, treatment requires careful and detailed investigation.
Postpartum yin deficiency and blood depletion: Siwu Tang plus Paojiang (Charred Ginger). Due to excessive blood loss postpartum, yin deficiency leads to internal heat and vexation, shortness of breath, headache, mental confusion, and painful joints. Ren Shen Dang Gui San is indicated. For yin deficiency with fever, Xiao Chaihu Tang is used, removing Pinelliae Rhizoma (Banxia) and adding Trichosanthis Radix (Huafen).
