Answer: Wang Shi said, a woman brought her daughter for consultation. The daughter was fifteen years old and stated that she had her first menstruation at fourteen, but now the menstrual flow has suddenly ceased. Her mother was terrified. The physician asked, "Is this girl your biological daughter? If so, you should explain it yourself." The woman replied, "She is indeed my biological daughter." The physician said, "I ask this for no other reason than that you also experienced menarche at fourteen. Therefore, when your daughter's menstruation ceases at this age, it is called 'Bi Nian' (Avoidance of Yearly Menses). Do not be alarmed; it will resume naturally later."
(Recommended Formula) Gongchen Dan (Arch Support Pill). A young woman in her prime may still have deficient True Qi due to innate constitutional weakness, rather than pathological deficiency. Pungent-drying herbs should be strictly avoided. One should not diagnose excessive Yin-cold merely because of cold extremities (Jue Ni). Such treatment will not only fail to cure the disease but may also give rise to severe illnesses. Tonifying formulas contain various ingredients with subtle dosages, making immediate effects difficult to observe. The key lies in consolidating congenital Yuan Qi, ensuring Kidney Water ascends and Heart Fire descends, thereby harmonizing the Five Zang organs and eliminating diseases. This formula treats the aforementioned condition. It appeared in the medical cases of Langzhong Sun Lin; Lady Ge, wife of Chancellor Ge, took it in her youth with excellent results.
Deer Antler (Su Zhi, skin and hair removed, 4 liang), Cornus Officinalis Fructus (Xin Hao Hong Zhe, 4 liang), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui, 4 liang), Moschus (She Xiang, 0.5 liang, separately ground).
Grind the first three ingredients into powder, mix with the Moschus, and use wine-boiled wheat paste to form pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds. Take 50 or 100 pills per dose, administered with warm wine or light salt water.
Answer: "Shi Nv" refers to an unmarried maiden. Regardless of beauty, at ages fourteen or fifteen, if her complexion remains rosy and tender, it is termed "Zhi Pu Wei San" (Innocence Not Yet Dissipated). As Zhuangzi described: "Graceful like a virgin," referring to this state. At this stage, when meridians and blood vessels are active, it is colloquially called "Hong Mai" (Red Pulse). If caused by fright or invasion of Cold Qi, menstruation may be delayed or obstructed despite being due.
(Recommended Formula) Tongjing Wan (Menstruation-Regulating Pill). Treats amenorrhea in married women and maidens, accompanied by pain or formation of Blood Stasis masses (Xue Jia). Based on Yan Shi's formula, add Corydalis Rhizoma (Yan Hu Suo) and Red Peony Root (Chi Shao), remove Aconitum Carmichaelii Radix (Chuan Wu).
Cinnamon Twig (Gui Xin, not roasted over fire), Tangerine Peel (Qing Pi, white part removed), Prepared Rhubarb (Da Huang, processed), Prepared Ginger (Gan Jiang, processed), Curcuma Zedoaria Rhizome (E Zhu), Processed Aconite Root (Chuan Wu, processed, skin and umbilicus removed), Dried Lacquer (Gan Qi, stir-fried), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui), Peach Kernel (Tao Ren, peeled and stir-fried), Sichuan Pepper (Chuan Jiao, pips removed, stir-fried until sweat appears, all equal parts).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Take one-fourth of the powder, boil with rice vinegar to form a paste, and mix with the remaining three-fourths powder. Pound in a mortar, shape into pills the size of Sophora japonica seeds, and dry in the shade. Take 20 pills per dose with light vinegar water, increasing up to 30 pills if necessary. Warm wine may also be used. Take before meals.
(Recommended Formula) Tao Ren San (Peach Kernel Powder). Treats amenorrhea in married women and maidens, accompanied by five-palm heat (heat in palms, soles, and chest).
Safflower (Hong Hua), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui), Achyranthes Bidentata Root (Du Niu Xi), Peach Kernel (Tao Ren, separately ground).
