To treat postpartum lochia retention, blood coagulation and failure to dissipate, stabbing pain in the heart caused by blood rushing upwards. If the puerpera encounters cold or steps on cold ground shortly after delivery, the blood will move between the heart and abdomen causing unbearable stabbing pain, known as "Xue Mu Kuai" (Blood Mother Mass). This formula is suitable for all kinds of heart and abdominal disorders after childbirth. (From *Chan Ru*)

The term "Er Zhen" (Child Pillow) refers to residual blood clots originally present in the uterus. During delivery, if these clots break down and are expelled along with the fetus, no harm occurs. However, if wind-cold invades the zang-fu organs of the puerpera, causing blood stagnation that remains in the lower abdomen without flowing freely, it condenses and causes pain, which is named "Er Zhen".
*Chan Bao* discusses the cause of postpartum heart and abdominal pain: it arises because both qi and blood are deficient after childbirth. When wind-cold invades, it clashes with qi and blood, rushing upward to the heart with the qi, or attacking downward into the abdomen, thus causing heart and abdominal pain. If the pain persists for a long time, it may transform into Shan Jia (hernia and fibroid/mass).
