To treat the sound of bell-like ringing within the abdomen of a pregnant woman. Take the soil from before and after a rat's burrow, grind it into a fine powder, mix with Musk (Moschus), and administer two qian mixed with wine; the ailment will be cured immediately.
To treat carbuncles occurring during pregnancy, with immediate effect.
Xinyao (Linderae Radix, Linna): Grind. The soft, white, and fragrant variety from Hongzhou is superior.
Take one cup of water and one piece of Niu Pi Jiao (Colla Corii Asini, Gelatin from Donkey Hide), decoct together until three-tenths remain, and take warm.
A pregnant woman's inability to speak is not a disease; occasionally this occurs, and medication is unnecessary. In the month preceding delivery, simply administer drugs such as Baosheng Wan (Life-Preserving Pill) or Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction); speech will return naturally after childbirth. This follows natural principles and is not due to the efficacy of medicine. Physicians do not disclose this truth to others; they administer ordinary medicines in the final month, and when the patient can speak postpartum, they claim credit for their medical skill. Is this truly their merit? (The Yellow Emperor asked: "When a person is pregnant and becomes aphonic in the ninth month, what is the reason?" Qibo replied: "The collateral vessels of the uterus are obstructed." The Emperor asked: "Why do you say so?" Qibo said: "The collateral vessels of the uterus are connected to the Kidney. The Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) meridian passes through the Kidney and connects to the root of the tongue; therefore, speech is impaired." The Emperor asked: "How should it be treated?" Qibo said: "No treatment is needed; it will recover naturally in the tenth month.")
The Classics state: "If food intake doubles, the intestines and stomach are injured." It also states: "The generation of Yin essence originates from the Five Flavors; the five organs storing Yin are damaged by the Five Flavors." If a pregnant woman does not regulate her diet, consuming raw, cold, or toxic substances, and indulges in eating, it injures the Spleen and Stomach. Therefore, regarding food stagnation during pregnancy, it is difficult to find suitable medicine; only these two formulas are the most stable and effective.
To treat food stagnation in pregnant women.
Muxiang (Aucklandiae Radix, two qian) Sanleng (Sparganii Rhizoma) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Baifuling (Poria, each three qian)
Grind all ingredients into a fine powder, form pills using wheat paste, sized like mung beans. Swallow thirty to forty pills with cooked water.
To treat disharmony of Qi during pregnancy, where digestion is easily impaired.
Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, stir-fried) Zisu (Perillae Folium, dried, each one liang) Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix, each three fen, stir-fried) Chuanxiong (Chuanxiong Rhizoma) Hezi (Terminalia Chebulae Fructus, peel) Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride, each half liang) Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, one fen)
Grind into powder. Take two qian per dose. Add three slices of fresh ginger to one cup of water, decoct until three-tenths remain, and take warm.
I have carefully examined Xiaoqixiang Wan (Little Seven Fragrances Pill, found in *Ju Fang*) and Baoqi San (Qi-Preserving Powder, found in Volume 16, Treatise 3); surely they do not possess good efficacy?
