This condition is named Ru Sou (infant cough caused by breastfeeding), which is indeed difficult to manage and is also considered a malignant syndrome. Treatment should be based on the differentiation of deficiency and excess: for excess patterns, disperse them; for deficiency patterns, tonify them. If symptoms include rough breathing with abundant phlegm, mouth ulcers, and heat in the eyes, after dispersing treatment, purgation may be applied, primarily using medicines such as Bijin Wan (Golden Pill) to dissipate the excess pathogen. If symptoms manifest as palpitations and fright following vomiting, accompanied by fatigue and spontaneous sweating, Bufeisan (Lung-Tonifying Powder), Yihuangsan (Spleen-Strengthening Powder), or Tianma San (Gastrodia Powder) should be used to tonify the deficiency. Generally, for treating cough due to fright, Hupo San (Amber Powder) is the primary prescription. Tianma Wan (Gastrodia Pill) is an essential medicine, composed of Gastrodiae Rhizoma (Tianma), Bombyx Batryticatus (Chantui), Bombyx Batryticatus (Jiangcan), Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), Borax (Pengsha), Tianshu Huang (Tianzhuhuang), Cow Gallbladder Star Aconite (Niudan Nanxing), Typhonii Rhizoma (Baifuzi), Pi (Pi), Realgar (Xionghuang). These are ground into fine powder, mixed with refined honey to form pills the size of Euphorbia lathyris seeds (Qianshi), coated with gold leaf. Each dose consists of one pill, dissolved and taken down with mint decoction. It treats persistent cough in infants under one hundred days old, surpassing other medicines significantly.
