1. Shaose (Jing-Well Point)
Location: At the ulnar end of the little finger, in the depression approximately 0.1 cun distal to the corner of the nail.
Indications and Treatment: Malaria; alternating chills and fever; anhidrosis; throat obstruction (Hou Bi); tongue stiffness; dry mouth; mental restlessness; arm pain; convulsions; cough; neck and nape stiffness with inability to turn the head; leukoma covering the pupil.
Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Puncture 0.1 cun. Moxibustion: one moxa cone.
Commentary: Shaose is a Metal Jing-Well point. It is the starting point where the Hand-Shaoyin Heart Meridian connects to the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian. The Heart is the master of the five zang and six fu organs and harmonizes with the Small Intestine. Just as mountains and marshes interact, there are two Jing-Well points on the inner and outer sides of the little finger of one hand. The Heart's Jing-Well point is called Shaochong, and the Small Intestine's Jing-Well point is called Shaose.
2. Qiangu (Ying-Spring Point)
Location: In the depression anterior to the metacarpophalangeal joint on the ulnar side of the little finger.
Indications and Treatment: Febrile diseases with anhidrosis; malaria; epilepsy; tinnitus; swelling of the mandible; throat obstruction; cough with epistaxis; neck and nape pain; nasal congestion and difficulty breathing; white leukoma in the eyes; inability to raise the arm.
Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Puncture 0.1 cun. Moxibustion: one moxa cone.
Commentary: Qiangu is a Water Ying-Spring point. It is where the Qi of the Hand-Taiyang Meridian flows through. Located anterior to the base of the little finger, it is thus named Qiangu (Front Valley).
3. Houxi (Shu-Stream Point)
Location: In the depression posterior to the metacarpophalangeal joint on the ulnar side of the little finger. Locate the point with the hand clenched into a fist.
Indications and Treatment: Malaria with chills and fever; redness of the eyes and leukoma; epistaxis; deafness; chest fullness; stiff neck and nape with inability to look back; epilepsy; spasm and stiffness of the arm and elbow.
Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Puncture 0.1 cun. Moxibustion: one moxa cone.
Commentary: Houxi is a Wood Shu-Stream point. It is where the Qi of the Hand-Taiyang Meridian pours into. Located posterior to the base of the little finger. When viewing the hand with a fist, it protrudes higher than Qiangu, hence the name Houxi. It internally connects to the Du Mai (Governing Vessel) and is one of the Eight Lingshui Points. It should be needled when Zhaohai is opened, with a depth of 0.6 or 0.8 cun.
4. Wanggu (Yuan-Source Point)
Location: On the ulnar side of the hand, in the depression distal to the styloid process of the ulna at the wrist.
Indications and Treatment: Febrile diseases with anhidrosis; hypochondriac pain; dyspnea; swelling of the neck and mandible; chills and fever; tinnitus; cold tears and leukoma in the eyes; mania and fright; hemiplegia; inability to flex and extend the arm and elbow; headache and irritability due to malaria; infantile convulsions; twitching of the five fingers.
Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Puncture 0.2 cun. Retain the needle for three breaths. Moxibustion: three moxa cones.
Commentary: Wanggu is the Yuan-Source point passed by the Hand-Taiyang Meridian. There is a small bone on the ulnar side anterior to the wrist. As the hand frequently flexes, extends, and rotates, this bone moves. The point is located slightly anterior to this bone, hence the name Wanggu. Later acupuncturists renamed the bone "Qigu" (Rising Bone) to avoid confusion with the point name, which is also acceptable.
5. Yanggu (Jing-River Point)
Location: In the depression inferior to the styloid process of the ulna at the wrist on the ulnar side of the hand.
Indications and Treatment: Epilepsy with manic running; febrile diseases with anhidrosis; hypochondriac pain; swelling of the neck and mandible; chills and fever; deafness and tinnitus; toothache from dental caries; pain and inability to lift the lateral aspect of the arm and wrist; incoherent speech with looking left and right; convulsions; vertigo.
Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Puncture 0.2 cun. Retain the needle for two breaths. Moxibustion: three moxa cones.
Commentary: Yanggu is a Jing-River point, where the Taiyang Meridian travels. It is located at the wrist on the ulnar side. Diagonally upward to the styloid process is the Yanglao point. It forms a horizontal line with the Yangchi point of the Hand-Shaoyang Sanjiao Meridian proximal to the wrist and the Yangxi point between the tendons of the thumb and index finger. However, this point is not as wide and deep as Yangxi and Yangchi, hence the name Yanggu (Yang Valley).
6. Xiaohai (He-Sea Point)
Location: In the depression 0.5 cun distal to the medial epicondyle of the humerus on the ulnar side of the elbow. Locate the point with the arm extended.
Indications and Treatment: Pain along the posterolateral border of the shoulder, elbow, and arm; chills and fever; gingival swelling; wind-induced vertigo; neck and nape pain; sores and swellings; chills; swelling and pain in the elbow and axilla; lower abdominal pain; inability to move the four limbs.
Acupuncture and Moxibustion: Puncture 0.2 cun. Moxibustion: three moxa cones.
Commentary: Xiaohai is a He-Sea point, where the Qi of the Hand-Taiyang Small Intestine Meridian enters. He-Sea points treat internal organs. The meridian enters the supraclavicular fossa, connects with the Heart, follows the pharynx, passes through the diaphragm, reaches the Stomach, and belongs to the Small Intestine. The Stomach is the Sea of Water and Grain. The Small Intestine is connected to the Stomach, so the He-Sea point in the elbow is named Xiaohai (Small Sea). Furthermore, the text states that the Hand-Taiyang meridians all originate from the feet (Note: This contradicts standard theory but reflects the source text), and the Small Intestine He-Sea point is at Juxia (Lower Leg Three Li, specifically ST39), while the Large Intestine He-Sea point is at Jushang (Upper Leg Three Li, specifically ST37). Perhaps because the Large Intestine turns and twists, serving as the official of conduction, while the Small Intestine serves as the official of reception, directing downwards to transform substances and excrete waste. Thus, its He-Sea point is located below the Large Intestine's He-Sea point.
