There are ten common erroneous practices in postpartum care:
One, after delivery, do not consume beef, mutton, pork, goose eggs, chicken eggs, duck eggs, or wheat-based foods. The body is extremely deficient and weak immediately after childbirth and cannot easily digest these items.
Two, do not immediately consume jelly noodles (liangfen), mung bean flour porridge, rice soup, or buckwheat-based foods.
Three, avoid using Sichuan pepper (Huajiao), mugwort (Aiye), and alcohol. Although heat may help circulate blood stasis, it will disturb the newly generated blood.
Four, folk custom often involves using several catties of ginger to dissipate blood stasis. However, this is unknown to cause fever and reckless bleeding, leading to critical conditions.
Five, do not consume pears, lotus root, oranges, citrus fruits, cold fruits, cold tea, or cold water, as this may cause blood stasis to coagulate.
Six, do not consume orange peel cubes, dried biscuits, Aurantium Fructus (Zhike), or Amomum Fructus (Xiangsha) pills, as these often damage Qi and Blood.
Seven, within seven days, do not comb hair to avoid exhausting the Spirit (Shen); do not force yourself to rise early to expose yourself to wind and cold.
Eight, within one month, do not speak excessively nor engage in women's handicraft labor.
Nine, during hot summer months, do not wash hands and feet with cold water.
Ten, in extreme heat, warm small garments by fire and keep them at room temperature for the abdomen; if cold, it causes painful blood stasis that persists for a long time, rendering medication ineffective.
Ten errors in postpartum medication:
One, mistakenly using Wu Yao (Linderae Radix) and Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix) to move Qi consumes Qi and instead increases fullness and oppression. Even when using Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), the dose must not exceed five fen; be cautious.
Two, mistakenly using Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Shan Zha (Crataegi Fructus), Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), and Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) as digestive aids often damages Stomach Qi, reduces appetite, and leads to refusal of food and drink. This must be avoided.
Three, mistakenly using Huang Qin (Scutellariae Radix), Huang Lian (Coptidis Rhizoma), Zhi Zi (Gardeniae Fructus), and Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex) for body heat damages the Stomach and increases internal heat, leading to refusal of food and drink.
Four, if Shenghua Tang (Life-Restoring Decoction) has not been taken within four days to eliminate blood stasis, do not first use Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma), lest the stasis remains unresolved.
Five, do not lightly use Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) as it obstructs the blood vessels; do not exclusively use Zhike (Aurantii Fructus), Zhishi (Aurantii Fructus Immaturus), or Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) to dissolve stasis.
Six, do not use Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) or Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas) to promote bowel movements, as inducing diarrhea can lead to abdominal distension.
Seven, do not use San Leng (Sparganii Rhizoma), Peng Ze (Curcumae Rhizoma), or Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix) to move blood stasis, as this also damages new blood.
Eight, folk custom often uses only Shan Zha (Crataegi Fructus) decocted in water to attack blood stasis, causing critical conditions, which people often fail to realize.
Nine, do not use Jikun Dan (Jikun Pill) two or three pills to expel the placenta.
Ten, do not trust the books *Chanbao Baiwen* (Hundred Questions on Obstetrics) and *Furen Liangfang* (Good Prescriptions for Women). People commonly use the established formulas from *Furen Liangfang* and *Baiwen* to treat postpartum patients. Using Xiong (Chuanxiong Rhizome), Gui (Danggui Radix), Bai Shao (Paeoniae Radix Alba), and Sheng Di Huang (Rehmanniae Radix) causes great harm.
