Bian Que and Sun Simiao's method for treating sudden death due to evil qi impact (Tuwu si, i.e., the modern concept of ghost attack or corpse syncope): Immediately blow powder of Gleditsiae Fructus (Zaojiao) into both nostrils, and the patient will revive. If revival does not occur after some time, urgently moxa the acupoint located three cun distal to the wrist crease between the two tendons, fourteen moxa cones at each side. This acupoint is the same one used by Zhen Quan to treat heart pain, as shown in the preceding diagram. If the body is cold and the jaw is clenched, moxibustion should be applied to Renzhong (GV26), three cones, with cone size similar to a millet grain. Take the acupoint according to the diagram.
Ge Hong and Sun Simiao's rescue method for drowning: Use powder of Gleditsiae Fructus (Zaojiao) blown into the anus (if Gleditsiae Fructus is unavailable, calcined stone may be used). Simply unfasten the clothes and apply thirty to fifty moxa cones to the umbilicus; when water exits from the anus, the patient will revive. This method can still save patients who have been drowned even after overnight. Additionally, Sun Simiao stated: In winter, if someone falls into water and becomes frozen stiff, with rigid limbs, closed eyes and mouth, but still has faint breath, use one dou of stove ash, stir-fry it in a pot until warm, wrap it in three to five layers of cloth, and apply hot compresses to the precordial region. Replace the ash immediately if it cools down. Continue until warmth returns to the heart area, breathing becomes smooth, eyes move, and mouth opens, then feed lukewarm thin porridge for the patient to swallow slowly. Subsequently, follow the previous moxibustion methods to revive. Do not rush to place the patient near a fire without first warming the heart area, as the conflict between internal cold and external fire heat will cause death; this must be strictly avoided.
The method is the same for men and women.
Chunyu Yi and Sun Simiao's rescue method for hanging suicide: When rescuing a person who has hanged themselves, it is crucial to firmly press the precordial region and not cut the rope immediately. Instead, lift the body and untie the knot. If the precordial region is still warm, first blow powder of Gleditsiae Fructus (Zaojiao) into both nostrils, cover the mouth and nose with an old felt piece, and have two people use bamboo tubes to blow forcefully into both ears to revive the patient. Another "Magpie Method" involves taking a small amount of dust from the roof beam, placing it into four bamboo tubes, having four people hold one tube each, and simultaneously blowing forcefully into both nostrils and both ears. Additionally, moxa ten cones at the transverse creases of the thumbs on both hands and feet to revive. Take the acupoints according to the diagram. For women with bound feet, only moxa the two acupoints on the thumbs of both hands.
Sun Simiao and Zhen Quan's treatment for acute throat obstruction (Ji Hou Bi), characterized by tongue stiffness and inability to speak, which can be fatal if not treated promptly: Urgently moxa three cones, sized like mung beans, behind the little fingernails on both hands. Take the acupoints according to the diagram.
