《葛氏肘后》∶小儿汗出，舌上白、爱惊者，衣浓过热也。鼻上青及下痢青、乳不消、喜啼者，衣薄过冷也。
小儿多患胎寒好啼，昼夜不止，因此成痫，宜急与当归散。（方见本门中。）
钱乙论胃啼云∶小儿筋骨、血脉未成，多哭者，至小所有也。
《婴童宝鉴》∶小儿玉衔，为生下时，口内恶血取之不尽，致随声入腹，令腹急口噤，下青黑粪，不乳而啼
也。
《葛氏肘后》当归散 治小儿喜啼方。
当归末之，取小豆大，以乳汁与咽之，日夜三、四度即瘥。若不瘥，当归半两，小 卵一具，并切之，以
酒一升二协议煮，取八合，服半合至一合，随儿大小，日三夜四，神验。
《外台》∶《备急》或常好啼方。
取犬颈下毛，以绛囊盛，系儿两手立效。
《婴孺》治小儿啼日夜不止，胸满气胀，膈中逆， 呕，腹痛方。
芍药 桂心（各三分） 芎 黄芩 薯蓣（各一分）
上同炒色变，为末，米汁下一刀圭。日进三服，夜再服，知为度。
《巢氏病源》小儿惊啼候∶小儿惊啼者，是于眠睡里忽然啼而惊觉也。由风热邪气乘于心，则心脏生热，精
神不定，故卧不安则惊而啼也。
钱乙论∶惊啼者，邪热乘心也。当安心，安神丸主之。（方见本门。）
《万全方》小儿啼叫方论∶小儿有惊啼，有夜啼、有躯啼。夫惊啼者，由风邪乘心，脏腑生热，热则精神不
定，睡卧不安，故惊啼。夜啼者，脏冷也。夜则阴盛，阴盛相感，痛甚于昼，故令夜啼。一云∶有犯触禁忌，
亦令儿夜啼，可作法术断之。其躯啼者，由腹中痛甚，儿身躯，张气，蹙而啼也。又有胎寒而啼者，此儿在胎
时已受病也。其状肠胃虚冷，不消乳哺，腹胀、下痢颜色青白，而时或啼叫是也。
《五关贯真珠囊》论小儿惊啼者，睡里惊啼，因风热而得。邪气在心生热，精神不定，故不安而惊也。
翰林待诏杨大邺问∶小儿夜啼、惊热、搐搦者为何？答曰∶自奶母不慎口恣，餐诸毒之物壅入奶堂，或即
变蒸未解，客忤受惊。但是小儿神气虚怯，脉息微细，奶壅而成。惊则有热，热则生病，惊热共触于心。心为
帝王，心不受触，是五脏之主。心既受触，是致夜啼惊叫，睡里搐搦，惑人迷徒。早不寻医，直得目滞
上翻，手脚痹 ，挥发虚霍，而求神拜鬼，荒忙书符，皆是助疾为 。须是药饵良医，人之性命不可轻耳。
《颅囟经》治小孩儿风痫惊啼，不吃奶。虎睛丸方
虎睛（一双） 犀角 子芩（各六分） 栀子仁 大黄（各十分）
上五味为细末，炼蜜丸如梧桐子大。惊啼不吃奶，乳汁下，一服七丸。风痫，米饮下五丸至七丸。儿小
减丸，取利为度，忌毒物。若有虚热，加知母六分。
《千金》龙角丸 主小儿五惊夜啼。
龙角（六铢） 牡蛎（ 赤） 川大黄（各九铢） 黄芩（半两） 蚱蝉（二枚） 牛黄（如小豆五枚，别研）
上六味末之，蜜丸如麻子。蓐里儿服二丸，随儿大小以意增减之。（崔氏名五惊丸，《婴孺方》

《千金方》千金汤 主小儿暴惊，啼绝死，或有人从外来，邪气所逐，令儿得疾，众医不治方。
蜀椒 左顾牡蛎（各六铢，碎）
上二味，以酢浆水一升，煮取五合，一服一合。
《千金翼》阿伽佗药 主诸种病。久服益人神色，无诸病，兼治小儿惊啼方。
紫檀 小 茜根 郁金 胡椒（各五两）
上五味捣碎为末，水和内臼中，更捣一万杵，丸如小麦大，阴干，用时以水磨而用之。诸小儿惊啼，以水
煮牡蒙，取汁半合研一丸如梧桐子，涂乳上令儿饮。乳母慎酒肉、五辛。诸小儿新得风痫，以竹沥半合，研
一丸如梧子服之，二服止。慎如前。
《仙人水鉴》∶儿生下多惊啼，声噎。庸医云∶是气急，此误人命，宜使此方。
收取黄葵四月花，阴干捣散入马牙，黄连四分加黄柏，四味神方力莫加。
上以冷水调下一字至一钱，服之立验。
《外台》∶《广济》疗小儿五惊夜啼。龙角丸方
龙角 黄芩 大黄（各二分） 牡丹皮（一分） 蚱蝉（一枚，炙） 牛黄（小豆大，五枚）
上六味捣、筛，蜜和丸如麻子。少小以意增减之，甚良。《千金》牡丹作牡蛎，仍分两不同。崔氏名五惊丸。
《广利方》治小儿惊啼，发歇不定。
川真好麝香研细。每服清水调下一字。日三服，量儿大小服。
《集验方》治小儿五邪惊啼、悲伤。
鲮鲤甲烧之作灰，以酒或水和服方寸匕。出《本草》。

上件药捣，粗罗为末、散。每服一钱，以水一小盏，煎至五分，去滓，量儿大小分减，频服之。
《圣惠》治小儿风热惊啼。牛黄散方
牛黄（细研） 犀角屑 人参（去芦头） 茯神 防风（去芦头） 细辛 蚱蝉（
去足头炙，微炒） （醋拌，微炒） 朱砂（细研） 甘草（炙微赤，锉）
上各等分捣，细罗为散，入研了药，更研令匀。一、二岁儿每服一字，用竹沥调服。三、四岁儿每服半钱，
不计时候服。
《圣惠》治小儿惊啼不止。犀角丸方

上件药捣，罗为末，炼蜜和丸如绿豆大。每服煎金银汤研破三丸服之，日三、四服。量儿大小，以意加减。

《圣惠》治小儿惊啼烦闷，壮热少得睡。牛黄丸方

上件药捣，罗为末，炼蜜和丸如绿豆大。盈月儿以乳汁研破、服二丸。一岁儿以薄荷汤下五丸。余以意加
减服之。
《圣惠》治小儿惊啼，发啼即热，朝夕惕惕，大便或青、或黄、或赤白。雄黄丸方
雄黄（细研） 牛黄（细研） 牡蛎（烧为粉。各半两） 真珠末（一分） 巴豆（三枚，去皮心，研出油）
上件药都研为末，炼蜜和丸如黍米粒大。小儿一月或五十日，未发时饮服三丸，母抱卧炊一斗米顷，儿当
寐，身体轻，汗出即解。一服不解可再服。若小儿伤乳不安，腹中有痰乳，当微下如 鸡子、鸟屎、鼻涕，
勿怪，便住服药。
《圣惠》治小儿惊啼及夜啼不止。服伏龙肝丸方
伏龙肝 朱砂（各一分） 麝香（半分）
上同细研，蜜和丸如绿豆大。候啼即以温水调一丸与服，必效。量儿大小以意加减服之。
《圣惠》治小儿惊啼，状如物刺。柏子仁散方（《圣惠》亦收治躯啼）
柏子仁（一两）
上件药捣，细罗为散。一、二岁儿每服一字，用粥饮调服。三、四岁儿每服半钱，一日三、四服。更量儿
大小，加减服之。
《圣惠》治小儿寒热，惊啼不安。雷丸浴汤方
雷丸 牡蛎粉 黄芩 细辛（各三分） 蛇床子（一两）
上件药以水一斗，煎取七升，去滓，分为两度，看冷暖用。先令浴儿头，勿令水入耳目，次浴背膊，后浴
腰以下。浴讫避风，以粉扑之。
《婴孺》治小儿夜睡，忽惊啼不识母，母唤之摇头方。
上小儿忽惊啼不识母者，是梦中见母弃之去，谓母实去故啼。但令人抱坐于暗中，令母从外把大火入来，
唤之即止。所以然者，谓母去还来也。此方天下未之知，隐居效方。
《婴孺》治小儿惊啼不安，此腹痛故也。至夜辄极，状如鬼祸。五味汤方
五味子 当归 白术（各三两） 甘草（炙） 桂心（各二两）
上以水二升，煮一升，为服三，量与之。
《婴孺》治少小喜惊啼，脏气不足，或邪气所动。金匮银屑镇心丸方
银屑 虎骨 城门上鸡头（炙黄） 细辛 雄黄（以上各一分） 独活 磁石（飞。各半分）
上为末，蜜丸。儿生百日，丸梧子大，绛纱袋盛系，男左女右。十日以上儿惊者，左、右臂及两足俱系之，
亦可涂手足心，合时面东。忌鸡犬、妇人见之。
《婴孺》治少小惊啼，怕怖寒热。细辛膏方
细辛 桂心 白蔹 蜀椒 乌啄（各三分） 浓朴（五分）
上以猪脂一斤，煎药三沸，绞去滓，火炙，手摩腹背炊三斗米久，百痛寒热皆可用之。（药
性稍温，须兼寒热方用之。）
钱乙蝉花散 治惊风夜啼，切牙，咳嗽及疗咽喉壅痛。
蝉花（和壳） 白僵蚕（直者，酒炒熟） 甘草（炙。各一分） 延胡索（半分）
上为末。一岁一字，四、五岁半钱，蝉壳汤下，食后。
钱乙安神丸
麦门冬（去心，培） 马牙硝 白茯苓 干山药 寒水石（研） 甘草（各半两） 朱砂（
一两，研） 龙脑（一字，研）
上末之，炼蜜为丸鸡头大。每服半丸，沙糖水调下，无时。
张涣∶婴儿眠睡着，忽啼哭惊觉，面赤口干，状若神祟。即非夜啼，乃风热邪气乘于心脏，名曰惊啼。宜用
牛黄膏方（常服除胎热）
真牛黄（别研） 牡蛎（烧为灰，别研为粉。各一分） 人参（去芦头） 甘草（炙。各半两）
以上并捣，罗为细末，次用∶辰州 朱砂 水磨雄黄（并细研，水飞。各一分） 龙脑（研，半钱）
上件诸药一处研细匀，炼蜜和成膏如鸡头大。每服半粒至一粒，薄荷汤化下，乳食后。
《刘氏家传方》∶小儿惊啼。
写天心二字于囟门上，写泥丸二字于丹田上。
长沙医者丁时发传治惊啼方。
孩儿咬齿即因惊，唇赤饶干面色青。梦里有时频叫唤，青云散子早惺惺。青云散
石莲心（一分） 天南星（炮） 僵蚕（取直者） 蝎 郁金（皂角煮。各一钱半） 雄黄（一钱） 粉霜（半钱）
上件为末。每服一字、半钱，看大、小，蜜汤调下。
《葛氏肘后》记载：小儿出汗，舌苔发白且容易受惊的，是因为衣物穿得太厚、环境过热所致。鼻梁发青以及大便呈青色、乳汁消化不良、喜欢啼哭的，是因为衣物穿得太薄、环境过冷所致。
小儿多患有胎寒而喜欢啼哭，昼夜不停，因此可能演变为痫证，应当立即给予当归散。（方剂见本门中。）
钱乙论述胃啼说：小儿筋骨、血脉尚未发育成熟，经常哭泣是婴幼儿常见的现象。
《婴童宝鉴》记载：小儿“玉衔”症，是因为出生时，口腔内的恶血未能完全清除，导致随哭声进入腹部，引起腹部拘急、口噤不开，排出青黑色粪便，不吃奶而啼哭。
《葛氏肘后》当归散 治疗小儿喜欢啼哭的方子。
将当归研成粉末，取小豆大小的量，用乳汁送服，每天三到四次即可痊愈。如果未愈，取当归半两，鸡蛋一枚，一起切碎，用酒一升二合煎煮，取药液八合，每次服用半合至一合，根据小儿年龄大小，白天三次晚上四次服用，效果神奇。
《外台秘要》引用《备急方》或常用治疗喜欢啼哭的方子。
取狗颈下的毛，用红色袋子装好，系在小儿双手上，立刻见效。
《婴孺方》治疗小儿日夜啼哭不止，胸部胀满气胀，膈间气逆，呕吐，腹痛的方子。
芍药、桂心（各三分）、川芎、黄芩、薯蓣（各一分）
以上药物共同炒至颜色改变，研成粉末，用米汁送服一刀圭的量。每天进药三次，晚上两次，以见效为度。
《诸病源候论》小儿惊啼候：小儿惊啼，是指在睡眠中突然啼哭并惊醒。这是由于风热邪气侵袭心脏，导致心脏生热，精神不安定，所以睡眠不安稳从而惊骇啼哭。
钱乙论述：惊啼是由于邪热乘袭心脏。应当安心，使用安神丸主治。（方剂见本门。）
《万全方》小儿啼叫方论：小儿有惊啼，有夜啼，有躯啼。所谓惊啼，是由于风邪乘袭心脏，脏腑生热，热则精神不定，睡卧不安，所以惊啼。夜啼，是由于内脏寒冷。夜间阴气盛，阴盛相互感应，疼痛比白天更甚，所以导致夜啼。另一种说法：触犯禁忌，也会导致小儿夜啼，可以用法术来断绝。所谓的躯啼，是由于腹中疼痛剧烈，小儿身躯紧张，憋气而啼哭。还有因胎寒而啼哭的，这是小儿在母胎中已经患病。其症状表现为肠胃虚冷，不能消化乳食，腹胀、下痢颜色青白，时而啼叫。
《五关贯真珠囊》论述小儿惊啼：在睡梦中惊骇啼哭，是因风热所致。邪气在心产生热，精神不定，所以不安而惊骇。
翰林待诏杨大邺问：小儿夜啼、惊热、抽搐的原因是什么？回答说：由于奶妈不慎口腹之欲，食用各种有毒之物，壅塞进入乳房，或者正值变蒸期未解，受到客忤惊吓。凡是小儿神气虚弱胆怯，脉象微细，都是因奶食壅滞而成。惊则有热，热则生病，惊热共同触动心脏。心为帝王，心不受触动，它是五脏之主。心既受触动，导致夜啼惊叫，睡中抽搐，迷惑人心。如果不早寻医，直到眼睛呆滞上翻，手脚麻痹，挥霍虚损霍乱，而去求神拜鬼，慌乱画符，这些都是助长疾病成为灾祸。必须依靠良药良医，人的性命不可轻视。
《颅囟经》治疗小孩儿风痫惊啼，不吃奶的虎睛丸方
虎睛（一双）、犀角、子芩（各六分）、栀子仁、大黄（各十分）
以上五味药研成细末，炼蜜制成梧桐子大小的丸药。惊啼不吃奶，用乳汁送服，一次七丸。风痫，用米饮送服五丸至七丸。小儿较小减少丸数，以通利为度，忌食毒物。若有虚热，加知母六分。
《千金方》龙角丸 主治小儿五惊夜啼。
龙角（六铢）、牡蛎（赤色）、川大黄（各九铢）、黄芩（半两）、蚱蝉（二枚）、牛黄（如小豆五枚，单独研磨）
以上六味药研成粉末，蜜制丸如麻子大小。产褥期的婴儿服用二丸，根据小儿年龄大小酌情增减。（崔氏名为五惊丸，《婴孺方》将龙角改为龙骨，名为龙骨丸。）
《千金方》千金汤 主治小儿暴受惊恐，啼哭至昏厥死亡，或者有人从外来，邪气驱逐，导致小儿患病，众医无法治疗的方子。
蜀椒、左顾牡蛎（各六铢，捣碎）
以上两味药，用醋浆水一升，煎取五合，一次服用一合。
《千金翼方》阿伽陀药 主治各种疾病。长期服用有益人的神色，无各种疾病，兼治小儿惊啼的方子。
紫檀、小薤、茜根、郁金、胡椒（各五两）
以上五味药捣碎成粉末，用水和入臼中，再捣一万杵，制成小麦大小的丸药，阴干，用时用水磨开使用。所有小儿惊啼，用水煮牡蒙，取汁半合，研磨一丸如梧桐子大小，涂在乳头上让小儿吸吮。乳母需慎食酒肉、五辛。所有小儿新患风痫，用竹沥半合，研磨一丸如梧子大小服用，服两次即止。禁忌同上。
《仙人水鉴》记载：小儿出生后多惊啼，声音哽咽。庸医说是气急，这会误人性命，适宜使用此方。
收取黄葵四月花，阴干捣散加入马牙硝，黄连四分加黄柏，四味药的神效力量无可比拟。
以上用冷水调服一字至一钱，服用后立即见效。
《外台秘要》引用《广济方》治疗小儿五惊夜啼。龙角丸方
龙角、黄芩、大黄（各二分）、牡丹皮（一分）、蚱蝉（一枚，炙烤）、牛黄（小豆大，五枚）
以上六味药捣碎、筛粉，蜜和制成麻子大小的丸药。幼儿酌情增减，效果很好。《千金方》用牡丹代替牡蛎，分量不同。崔氏名为五惊丸。
《广利方》治疗小儿惊啼，发作停止不定。
川真好麝香研细。每次服用清水调下一字。每天三次，根据小儿年龄大小服用。
《集验方》治疗小儿五邪惊啼、悲伤。
鲮鲤甲烧成灰，用酒或水调服方寸匕。出自《本草》。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿惊啼。犀角散方
犀角屑、钩藤、川升麻、黄芩、甘草（炙微赤、锉碎。各一分）、人参（三分 去芦头）
以上药物捣碎，粗罗成散剂。每次服用一钱，用水一小盏，煎至五分，去渣，根据小儿年龄大小分次减量服用。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿惊啼。羚羊角散方
羚羊角屑、黄芩、犀角屑、甘草（炙微赤，锉碎）、茯苓（各一分）、麦门冬（半两，去心，焙干）
以上药物捣碎，筛成散剂。每次服用一钱，用水一小盏，煎至五分，去渣，根据小儿年龄大小分次减量服用。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿惊啼壮热，心烦不得安稳睡眠，宜服钩藤散方
钩藤、龙胆（去芦头）、犀角屑、茯苓、黄芩、甘草（炙微赤，锉碎）
以上等分捣碎，细罗成末散。每次服用一钱，用水一小盏，煎至五分，去渣，根据小儿年龄大小分次减量，频繁服用。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿惊啼烦热，眠卧不安。龙齿散
龙齿、麦门冬（去心焙。各半两）、赤芍药、川升麻、川大黄（锉碎，微炒）、甘草（炙微赤，锉。各一分）
以上药物捣碎，粗罗成末、散。每次服用一钱，用水一小盏，煎至五分，去渣，根据小儿年龄大小分次减量，频繁服用。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿风热惊啼。牛黄散方
牛黄（细研）、犀角屑、人参（去芦头）、茯神、防风（去芦头）、细辛、蚱蝉（去足头炙，微炒）、（醋拌，微炒）、朱砂（细研）、甘草（炙微赤，锉）
以上各等分捣碎，细罗成散，加入已研好的药，再次研磨均匀。一至两岁小儿每次服用一字，用竹沥调服。三至四岁小儿每次服用半钱，不限时候服用。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿惊啼不止。犀角丸方
犀角屑（半两）、羌活、胡黄连、龙齿（各一分）
以上药物捣碎，筛成粉末，炼蜜和丸如绿豆大小。每次服用煎金银汤研破三丸服用，每天三、四次。根据小儿年龄大小，酌情加减。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿初生及一年内，小儿多惊啼不休，或不得眠卧，时时肚胀，有似鬼神所为。赤芍药散方
赤芍药、桂心、白术、甘草（炙微赤，锉）、川大黄（锉碎，微炒）

以上药物捣碎，筛成粉末，炼蜜和丸如绿豆大小。满月婴儿用乳汁研破、服用二丸。一岁婴儿用薄荷汤送服五丸。其余酌情加减服用。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿惊啼，发病即发热，朝夕警惕，大便或青、或黄、或赤白。雄黄丸方
雄黄（细研）、牛黄（细研）、牡蛎（烧为粉。各半两）、真珠末（一分）、巴豆（三枚，去皮心，研出油）
以上药物都研为末，炼蜜和丸如黍米粒大小。小儿一月或五十日，未发病时饮水送服三丸，母亲抱着睡觉约煮一斗米的时间，小儿应当入睡，身体轻快，出汗即解。一次不服可再服。若小儿伤乳不安，腹中有痰乳，应当轻微腹泻如鸡蛋、鸟屎、鼻涕状，不要奇怪，便停止服药。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿惊啼及夜啼不止。服伏龙肝丸方
伏龙肝、朱砂（各一分）、麝香（半分）
以上共同细研，蜜和丸如绿豆大小。等到啼哭时用温水调一丸与服，必定有效。根据小儿年龄大小酌情加减服用。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿惊啼，状如被物刺。柏子仁散方（《圣惠》也收治躯啼）
柏子仁（一两）
以上药物捣碎，细罗成散。一至两岁小儿每次服用一字，用粥饮调服。三至四岁小儿每次服用半钱，一天三、四次。再根据小儿年龄大小，加减服用。
《圣惠方》治疗小儿寒热，惊啼不安。雷丸浴汤方
雷丸、牡蛎粉、黄芩、细辛（各三分）、蛇床子（一两）
以上药物用水一斗，煎取七升，去渣，分为两度，看冷暖使用。先让洗浴小儿头部，勿令水入耳目，其次洗浴背膊，后洗浴腰以下。洗浴完毕避风，用粉扑之。
《婴孺方》治疗小儿夜睡，忽惊啼不识母，母唤之摇头的方子。
上述小儿忽惊啼不识母者，是梦中见母亲抛弃他离去，以为母亲真的离开了所以啼哭。只要让人抱坐在暗中，让母亲拿着大火从外面进来，呼唤他即停止。之所以这样，是因为认为母亲离开又回来了。此方天下无人知晓，隐居者的效验方。
《婴孺方》治疗小儿惊啼不安，这是腹痛的缘故。到了夜晚就极其严重，状如鬼祸。五味汤方
五味子、当归、白术（各三两）、甘草（炙）、桂心（各二两）
以上用水二升，煮取一升，分三次服用，根据情况给予。
《婴孺方》治疗少小喜惊啼，脏气不足，或邪气所动。金匮银屑镇心丸方

张涣：婴儿睡着后，忽啼哭惊醒，面赤口干，状若神祟。这就不是夜啼，而是风热邪气乘袭心脏，名叫惊啼。宜用牛黄膏方（常服除胎热）
真牛黄（单独研磨）、牡蛎（烧为灰，单独研磨为粉。各一分）、人参（去芦头）、甘草（炙。各半两）

*Ge Shi Zhou Hou*: When infants sweat, have a white coating on the tongue, and are prone to fright, it is due to clothing being too thick and the environment being too hot. If the nose bridge appears bluish, stools are green, milk digestion is poor, and the infant cries frequently, it is due to clothing being too thin and the environment being too cold.
Infants often suffer from fetal coldness (Tai Han) causing frequent crying, day and night without cessation, which may develop into epilepsy (Xian). It is advisable to immediately administer Dang Gui San (Angelica Decoction). (Formula see in this section.)
Qian Yi discussed "Stomach Crying": Infants' bones, sinews, blood vessels, and meridians are not yet fully formed; frequent crying is common in early infancy.
*Ying Tong Bao Jian*: The condition of "Yu Xian" in infants occurs when blood clots in the mouth after birth are not completely cleared, entering the abdomen with the cry, causing abdominal tension, lockjaw, passage of dark green or black stools, refusal to nurse, and crying.
*Dang Gui San* from *Ge Shi Zhou Hou* treats infants who cry frequently.
Powdered Dang Gui (Dong Qui Root), taken in doses the size of adzuki beans, swallowed with breast milk. Administer three to four times daily until recovery. If ineffective, use half liang of Dang Gui and one egg, chopped together, boiled in one sheng and two he of wine to yield eight he. Dosage: half to one he per administration, three times by day and four times by night, according to the child's age. This is highly effective.
*Waitai Miyao* cites *Beiji Fang* or common formulas for treating frequent crying.
Take hair from under a dog's neck, place it in a crimson pouch, and tie it to both hands of the infant for immediate effect.
*Ying Ru Fang* treats infants crying day and night without stop, with chest fullness, qi distension, diaphragmatic rebellion, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
Shaoyao (Peony Root), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig), each 3 fen; Xiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), each 1 fen.
Stir-fry all ingredients together until color changes, powder them, and administer one Dao Gui dose mixed with rice juice. Take three doses daily and two at night, stopping when symptoms improve.
*Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun*, Chapter on Infant Fright Crying: Infant fright crying refers to sudden crying and awakening during sleep. This is caused by wind-heat pathogenic factors invading the Heart, generating heat in the Heart organ, leading to unsettled spirit and mind. Thus, restless sleep results in frightful crying.
Qian Yi stated: Fright crying is caused by pathogenic heat affecting the Heart. One should calm the mind; An Shen Wan (Spirit-Calming Pill) is indicated. (Formula see in this section.)
*Wan Quan Fang*, Discussion on Infant Crying Types: Infants experience fright crying, night crying, and body crying. Fright crying arises from wind pathogen invading the Heart, generating heat in the zang-fu organs; heat causes mental unrest and restless sleep, leading to fright crying. Night crying is due to internal cold. At night, yin is dominant; excessive yin induces pain worse than during the day, causing night crying. Another view suggests that violating taboos can also cause night crying, which can be resolved through ritual magic. Body crying is caused by severe abdominal pain, where the infant tenses their body, holds breath, and cries. There is also crying due to fetal coldness, meaning the infant contracted illness in utero. Symptoms include deficiency-cold of the intestines and stomach, inability to digest milk, abdominal distension, green-and-white diarrhea, and intermittent crying.
*Wu Guan Guan Zhen Zhu Nang* discusses infant fright crying: Waking in fright and crying during sleep is caused by wind-heat. Pathogenic factors generate heat in the Heart, causing mental unrest and fear.
Yang Daye, Hanlin Daizhao, asked: What causes night crying, fright-heat, and convulsions in infants? The answer was: This stems from the wet nurse's lack of caution regarding diet, consuming toxic substances that clog the milk channels, or unresolved Bian Zheng (metabolic transformation periods) combined with external fright (Ke Wu). Generally, infants have deficient and timid spirit-qi, with faint pulses, resulting from milk stagnation. Fright generates heat; heat breeds disease. Fright and heat jointly disturb the Heart. The Heart is the sovereign; it must not be disturbed as it governs the five zang organs. Once disturbed, it leads to night crying, frightful calls, and convulsions during sleep, confusing people. If medical help is not sought early, the eyes may become fixed and upward-turned, limbs numb, vitality depleted, leading to desperate prayers to gods and ghosts and frantic talisman writing, which only aid the disease. One must rely on good medicine and doctors; human life cannot be treated lightly.
*Luxin Jing* Tiger Eye Pill treats infant wind-phlegm epilepsy and fright crying with refusal to nurse.
Hu Jing (Tiger Eyes, one pair); Xijiao (Rhinoceros Horn), Zixinqin (Scutellaria Root), each 6 fen; Zhizi Ren (Gardenia Seed), Dahuang (Rhubarb Root), each 10 fen.
Grind these five herbs into fine powder, mix with refined honey, and form pills the size of paulownia seeds. For fright crying and refusal to nurse, administer seven pills with breast milk. For wind-phlegm epilepsy, administer five to seven pills with grain drink. Reduce dosage for smaller infants; stop when bowel movements occur. Avoid toxic foods. If deficiency-heat is present, add Zhimu (Anemarrhena Rhizome) 6 fen.
*Qianjin Fang* Long Jiao Wan (Dragon Horn Pill) treats infant five-fright night crying.
Long Jiao (Dragon Horn, 6 zhu); Moli (Oyster Shell, red variety), Chuan Dahuang (Rhubarb Root), each 9 zhu; Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), 0.5 liang; Zha Chan (Cicada Slough), 2 pieces; Niuhuang (Calculus Bovis, equivalent to five adzuki beans, separately ground).
Grind these six ingredients into powder, mix with honey, and form pills the size of sesame seeds. Neonates take two pills; adjust dosage according to age. (Cui Shi called this Wu Jing Wan; *Ying Ru Fang* replaced Long Jiao with Long Gu (Fossilized Bone) and named it Long Gu Wan.)
*Qianjin Fang* Qianjin Tang treats infant acute fright, crying to the point of syncope, or illness caused by external pathogenic factors entering from outside, refractory to other physicians.
Shujiao (Sichuan Pepper), Zuogu Moli (Left-facing Oyster Shell), each 6 zhu, crushed.
Boil these two ingredients in one sheng of vinegar-water to yield five he. Administer one he per dose.
*Qianjin Yifang* Agada Medicine treats various diseases. Long-term use benefits complexion and spirit, preventing illnesses, and also treats infant fright crying.
Zitan (Sandalwood), Xiao Xie (Small Allium), Qiangengen (Rubia Root), Yujin (Turmeric Tuber), Hujiao (Pepper), each 5 liang.
Crush these five herbs into powder, mix with water in a mortar, and pound ten thousand times. Form pills the size of wheat grains, dry in shade. To use, grind with water. For infant fright crying, boil Mumeng (likely a typo for Mu Danpi or similar, context implies a bitter herb) in water, take half he of juice, grind one pill (paulownia seed size) in it, apply to nipple for infant to suck. Wet nurse must avoid alcohol, meat, and five pungent spices. For new-onset wind-phlegm epilepsy in infants, grind one pill (paulownia seed size) in half he of bamboo sap and administer; stop after two doses. Restrictions as above.
*Xianren Shuijian*: Infants often cry in fright with choking sounds after birth. Quack doctors call this "qi urgency," which is fatal. Use this formula instead.
Collect Huangkui flowers from April, dry in shade, powder, and add Mayaxia (Marble-like mineral). Add 4 fen of Huanglian (Coptis Rhizome) and Huangbai (Phellodendron Bark). These four ingredients form a divine prescription with unmatched power.
Mix with cold water and administer one zi to one qian. Effect is immediate.

If infant has milk injury with uneasiness and phlegm-milk in abdomen, mild diarrhea resembling egg whites, bird droppings, or nasal mucus is expected; do not be alarmed, then stop medication.
*Shenghui Fang* Fu Long Gan Wan (Dragon Liver Pill) treats infant fright crying and incessant night crying.

*Ying Ru Fang* treats infant sudden fright crying at night, failing to recognize mother, shaking head when called.
When infant suddenly cries in fright and does not recognize mother, it is because in the dream they saw mother leaving, thinking she truly departed. Have someone hold the infant in the dark, let the mother enter holding a large fire, and call out; crying will stop. This works because the infant believes the mother has returned. This formula is unknown to the world; an efficacious prescription from a recluse.
*Ying Ru Fang* Wu Wei Tang (Five Flavor Decoction) treats infant fright crying with uneasiness due to abdominal pain, worsening at night, resembling ghost affliction.
Wuweizi (Schisandra Berry), Danggui (Angelica Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), each 3 liang; Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted), Guixin (Cinnamon Twig), each 2 liang.

For infants over ten days with fright, tie to both arms and legs, or apply to palms and soles. Prepare facing east. Avoid exposure to chickens, dogs, and women.
*Ying Ru Fang* Xixin Gao (Asarum Ointment) treats young infants with fright crying, fear, chills, and fever.

Boil in one jin of lard for three boils, strain dregs, heat gently. Massage abdomen and back for the time it takes to cook three dou of rice. Effective for various pains and chills/fever. (Medicine is slightly warm; use for conditions involving both cold and heat.)
Qian Yi Chan Hua San (Cicada Flower Powder) treats wind-stroke night crying, teeth grinding, cough, and throat obstruction/pain.

Zhang Huan: If an infant wakes crying in fright after sleep, with red face and dry mouth, resembling spiritual possession, this is not night crying but wind-heat pathogen invading the Heart, called fright crying. Use Niu Huang Gao (Calculus Bovis Ointment) (regular use clears fetal heat).
Zhen Niu Huang (Real Calculus Bovis, separately ground), Moli (Oyster Shell, calcined to ash, separately ground to powder), each 1 fen; Renshen (Ginseng Root, remove rhizome), Gancao (Licorice Root, roasted), each 0.5 liang.

*Liu Shi Jia Chuan Fang*: Infant fright crying.
