Mr. Mao discusses the syndrome of infantile fright-induced diarrhea (Jing Xie): The facial complexion is cyanotic, the periorbital area shows slight cyanosis, the body has a slight fever, and diarrhea presents as greenish-red watery stools or resembling grass juice. This syndrome originates from prior fright, followed by accumulation, which is then triggered by consuming cold foods. For treatment, first administer Huo Pi San (Vitalizing Spleen Powder) [there are two formulas; one is found in the section on Stomach Qi Disharmony, the other in the section on Slow Spleen Wind], Zhen Xin Wan (Calming Heart Pill) [formula found in the section on All Fright Syndromes], Jia Ruxiang San (Boswellia-Infused Powder), Yun Qi San (Regulating Qi Powder) [formulas found in the sections on Diarrhea and Stomach Qi Disharmony respectively] for regulation, and recovery will ensue.
The verse on the thirty-six types in *Shi Bi Jing* regarding fright-induced diarrhea:
The stool discharged is blue-black like indigo, the gaze is urgent with blackening around the pupils. Observe only if the eyes protrude and the eyelids are cyanotic (*Feng Sui Jing* states this line as: "Observe only if cyanosis arises in the glabella"), indicating the cause is cold diarrhea due to fright injury.
Initially, the zang-fu organs were damaged by cold, subsequently aggravated by fright, causing the eyeballs to appear cyanotic, the gaze becoming intense, the sclera also turning cyanotic, the eyeballs and sclera bulging significantly, and the lips and mouth becoming cyanotic, with insufficient spirit. Do not fear; first warm the spleen qi, then dispel the fright, and the separation of water and grain will be restored.
The verse for this syndrome in *Feng Sui Jing* is identical, with an annotation stating: It is suitable to administer Si Se Wan (Four Colors Pill) [formula found in this section; the formula in *Ji Shi Jia Chuan* is the same].
*Tan Shi Shu Sheng Fang*: Infantile gan-dysentery manifests in various ways, with cyanotic color mixed with pus and blood spots. There is frequent convulsion day and night, and deficiency sweating never dries by morning. He Li (Chebulae Fructus), Long Gu (Dragon Bone), Wu Hei Gu (Cutula Sepiae), Ding Fen (Lead Subcarbonate), Huang Dan (Red Lead). These are calcined into cinnabar-like powder, sifted finely, pounded together, and taken with water for bodily peace.
Qian Huang San (Lead Yellow Powder)
Ding Fen (Lead Subcarbonate) and Huang Dan (Red Lead) [ground together, calcined with three jin of fire until red-hot, cooled to obtain the white part, and separately ground fine]; He Zi (Chebulae Fructus, flesh only); Long Gu (Dragon Bone, calcined until red-hot); Wuziyu Gu (Cutula Sepiae) [equal parts].
The above five herbs are powdered and ground again until extremely fine. Take half a qian each time, mixed with rice drink. For children over three years old, add half a qian. Avoid five pungent toxic substances, fish, meat, etc. This medicine effectively treats various types of infantile diarrhea and dysentery, lower rectal prolapse, and refusal of milk/food; it is highly suitable for use.
Da Bing Zi Formula from *San Shi Liu Zhong* for treating fright-induced diarrhea:
Da Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata, split into two pieces, cooked and processed, skin and bud removed); Shao Fen (Starch, one piece, size of Fu Zi); Huo Xiang (Agastaches Herba, 5 qian); Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos, 50 grains).
The above ingredients are powdered, mixed with drops of water to form cakes the size of chess pieces. Take one cake each time, dissolved in rice drink.
Si Se Wan (Four Colors Pill) from *Ji Shi Jia Chuan*, treating infantile fright-induced diarrhea with greenish feces:
Liu Huang (Sulfur), Chi Shi Zhi (Halloysitum Rubrum), Ban Qing (Azurite) [each 1 qian].
Grind these evenly, mix with wheat starch paste boiled in water to form pills the size of ○. Take 5 to 7 pills each time, washed down with aged rice drink.
