Qian Yi discussed: Gan sores manifest as redness and erosion under the nose, with the child rubbing them spontaneously. There are sores on the nasal tip that do not form scabs, gradually spreading to generate sores around the ears. To treat nasal sores and erosion, use Lanxiang San (Origanum Powder). (The formula is found in the "Nasal Gan" section.) For various sores, Baifen San (White Powder) is the primary treatment. (The formula is found in this section.)

*Qianjin Fang* (Essential Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) for treating pediatric Gan sores.
Mix the above ingredients with lard and Hu Fen (Lead Carbonate) to apply externally, five to six times daily.

Another prescription from *Qianjin Fang*
Chew hemp seeds and apply to the affected area, six to seven times daily. *Taiping Shenghui Fang* (Imperial Grace Formulary of the Taiping Era) uses one unit of large hemp seeds, adds a small amount of water, grinds it, extracts the juice, and administers it orally; stop administration once parasites are expelled.

Another prescription from *Qianjin Fang* (also treats Gan accumulation)
Use two sheep gallbladders, mix with soy sauce, and administer via the lower orifice. Lard is also suitable.

*Taiping Shenghui Fang* for treating sores on the face and nose, body sores, moist sores near the mouth, including red and white sores, as well as formulas for Gan qi invading the abdomen leading to gradual emaciation.
White dog feces, Toad, Earthworm, Snail shell, Lanxiang (with roots), Human feces (each calcined to ash, half liang), Bear bile, Aloe vera, Musk (each one fen).
Grind the above medicines into a fine powder. If sores occur in the mouth, first rinse with salted brine water, then wrap a small amount of medicine in cotton and hold it in the mouth. If sores occur inside the nose, insufflate a small amount into the nostrils. If sores occur outside the nose, remove the scab before applying. If Gan qi invades the abdomen, take half qian mixed with fresh well water on an empty stomach.

*Taiping Shenghui Fang* records: Sores arising on the face and nose are neither itchy nor painful; fluid discharge leads to ulceration. They may also appear on the body, commonly affecting children. This is caused by wind-dampness clashing with blood and qi, named Gan sores.

Pigeon Feces Powder treats Gan sores in the mouth and other areas.
Pigeon feces, Human feces (calcined), White alum (calcined), Indigo naturalis, Musk (each one fen).
Grind and apply three times daily.

Musk Powder treats facial and head Gan sores and foul breath.
Musk, Python gallbladder, Gaozhou yellow alum, Aloe vera (each one fen).
Grind, wash clean, and apply. For foul odor in the mouth, apply topically, three times daily.

Bear Bile Ointment treats body, oral, and facial Gan sores, as well as various Gan diseases.
Bear bile, Python gallbladder, Aloe vera, Calculus bovis (Ox gallstone), Borneol (each one fen), Musk (half liang).
Grind, place in three he of well water in a porcelain vessel, simmer over a double boiler, adding water repeatedly for about half a day. Add three to five grains of glutinous rice, cook until soft, stir several times with a bamboo comb, ensuring the edges do not dry out. Take an amount equivalent to two beans, gently insufflate into the nose, and apply to oral sores. Use frequently, but rest for one day every two days, continuing until the child's hair turns black.

Another method: Calcined rice grains from dog feces; dried horse street insects applied together.

Qian Yi's Baifen San (White Powder)
Cuttlefish bone (three bi units), Bletilla striata (two bi units), Calomelas (one fen).
Grind into fine powder. First rinse the mouth with grain water, then apply as needed.

Zhang Huan discussed: Various Gan conditions causing emaciation, scorched yellow hair, and sores in the mouth and nose. Sizhen Dan (Four Precious Pills).
Large toad (one piece, remove four feet, insert half liang Coptidis Rhizoma into the abdomen, sew shut, wrap in wet paper, seal with mud, and burn until red-hot), Aloe vera (half liang), Musk (one fen).
Grind and pill with wheat flour paste to the size of millet seeds. Administer five to seven pills, washed down with porridge water. Adjust dosage according to condition.

Bear Bile Ointment for persistent Gan sores unhealed.
Bear bile, Python gallbladder, Aloe vera (each half liang), Calculus bovis (one fen), Borneol (one qian), Gaozhou yellow alum (one fen).
Grind, mix with three he of well water, simmer in a silver vessel over a double boiler to form an ointment, and apply.

Zhuang Shi discussed: Apply calcified maltose ash.

Zhao Shi's Dueming San (Life-Rescuing Powder) for Gan sores.
Trogopterus dung (Wulingzhi), Lettuce (shade-dried), Rehmannia root, Lead tetroxide (stir-fried), White alum (sublimated), Red dye, Musk (a little).
Grind into powder. Depending on the size of the sore, wash with grain water and apply.

Scholar Zhao's Zhibao San (Precious Treasure Powder) for chronic Gan sores exposing bone, whether dry or moist.
White clam shell (buried in mud for many years, white and small granules), Litharge (processed similarly to clam shells, each one liang), Hematite (half liang).
Grind into fine powder, add half qian of musk, grind uniformly. Wash with warm grain salt water, sprinkle medicine, cover with plaster. Fresh flesh will grow within five to seven applications; stop when six fen of tissue has regenerated. Otherwise, the scar will remain raised.
Also applicable for adult men and women with chronic, non-healing sores.

Zheng Yu's treatment for Gan sweet sores.
Concha meretricis pulverisata, Phellodendron bark, Lead tetroxide (each one qian), Calomelas (half qian), Croton seed (three grains, calcined).
Grind into powder, mix with sesame oil for topical application.
