According to *Zhu Bing Yuan Hou Lun* (Treatise on the Pathogenesis and Symptoms of All Diseases), regarding the symptom where a child cannot speak at the age of six or seven after an epileptic seizure has subsided: The manifestation of wind epilepsy involves the mouth and eyes being drawn together, or the eyeballs shaking upward, or convulsions of the hands and feet, or rigidity of the spine and back, or opisthotonos of the neck. The flexion and convulsion resemble counting. These are caused by the child exposing themselves to wind for cooling and irregular breastfeeding or feeding habits. When a child cannot speak after an epileptic seizure subsides, it is because during the wind epilepsy attack, the child's clothing was thick causing sweating, and then they excessively exposed themselves to wind for cooling, resulting in injury by wind pathogen. The initial manifestation involves fingers flexing as if counting, followed by convulsions. The voice of the Heart is speech, and the Heart opens into the mouth. Although the epileptic seizure has stopped, the cold-wind qi still stagnates in the collaterals of the Heart, causing disharmony of Heart Qi, so the voice cannot be emitted, hence the inability to speak.
