When infantile erysipelas (Xiao'er Dan) erupts on both arms, presenting as red, raised lesions resembling plums, it is termed "Ghost Fire Erysipelas" (Gui Huo Dan). The treatment formulas are as follows: Take five liang of Sedum aizoon (Jingtian Cao) and three liang of Dracocephalum heterophyllum (She Xian Cao), pound them into a paste, and apply the mixture to the affected area using chicken blood as a vehicle. Alternatively, take one liang of Potassium Chloride (Rongyan) and one Aconitum carmichaelii root (Fuzi), burn them to ash, grind into powder, and apply using male chicken blood.
Zhang's Rongyan Powder
Ingredients: Potassium Chloride (one liang), Aconitum carmichaelii root (one piece), Realgar (half liang, prepared by water flotation).
Preparation and Administration: Grind all ingredients together into a fine powder. Apply a small amount to the lesion, mixed with male chicken blood.
The *Cranium and Fontanelle Classic* (*Lun Xi Jing*) records a treatment for Ghost Fire Erysipelas originating from the face: Mix earth from under the stove with egg white and apply; recovery is immediate.
The *Taiping Shenghui Fang* records that when infantile erysipelas presents as red spots resembling plums, covering the back and abdomen, it is called "Wild Fire Erysipelas" (Ye Huo Dan). The *Qianjin Fang* states that when the entire body is red, it is also called Wild Fire Erysipelas. Treatment: Mix half liang each of Realgar and Potassium Chloride, grind into powder, mix with egg white, and apply frequently until cured. Another method: Mix one liang of yellow earth from the stove fire pit and two liang of green bamboo leaves, burn to ash, grind into powder, and apply with egg white. Pound twenty-seven Bai Jiang Can (Bombyx Batryticatus) and one liang of Huhucao (likely referring to a specific local herb for fire toxins) into a paste and apply. Other methods include application with wine or oil. Seal the area with a mixture of egg white and Vigna angularis (Azuki bean) powder; if the eruption is generalized, apply over the entire body.
The *Taiping Shenghui Fang* records that when infantile erysipelas initially appears on the cheeks, upper arms, and axillae, it is called "Home Fire Erysipelas" (Jia Huo Dan). Treatment: Use three liang each of Phellodendron amurense bark (Zimu Baipi) and Polygonum hydropiper leaves (Liao Ye), burn to ash, mix with egg white, and apply frequently until cured.
The *Yingru Fang* provides a formula for severe cases of Home Fire Erysipelas invading the throat and abdomen.
Method: Calcine Natrii Sulfas (Xiaoshi) and Halloysitum Rubrum (Ningshuishi) in a copper vessel until dry, grind into powder, and administer one fangcun bi (a traditional measuring spoon) per dose.
Another formula: Mix one fen of Aconitum kusnezoffii root (Wutou) and three fen of Red Kaolin (Chishizhi), grind finely, and apply with egg white; this is highly effective.
The *Taiping Shenghui Fang* records that when infantile erysipelas initially appears on the flanks, axillae, and legs, it is called "Calamity Fire Erysipelas" (Yang Huo Dan). Treatment: Grind Chuan Puxiao (Mirabilite/Natrii Sulfas) into powder. Administer half qian per dose, mixed with bamboo sap (Zhuli), adjusting the dosage according to the child's age and size. Additionally, crush floating fern (Fuping) to extract juice and administer frequently. The *Qianjin Fang* recommends grinding Long Gu (Fulonggan - calcined earth from the center of a cooking stove) into powder, mixing with raw sesame oil for topical application, changing when dry. If the eruption invades the abdomen and genitals, administer juice extracted from Huhucao.
