White Alum (Ban Sheng, half sheng) is sprinkled with water to form a powder, then stir-fried together with sliced Rhubarb (Da Huang, 1 liang 5 qian) in ashes until it turns red. Remove the Rhubarb, sift the calcined alum (Duan Shi) finely, and mix with cool water for external application. Alternatively, grind Gold Ink (Jin Mo) into powder, mix with vinegar, and apply cool; the bleeding will stop immediately. (From *Yi Zong Jin Jian*)
In the initial stage, it resembles a mole, red as a bean; when touched or broken, fresh blood flows. For cases of cold extremities, cyanotic lips, retracted testicles, and six pulses faintly palpable or nearly absent, take a bundle of Scallion (Cong Bai), remove roots and green parts, keeping only the white part about two cun long. Heat it and place it on the umbilicus. Iron it with a hot iron pot. Replace the scallion when it spoils. After some time, if heat penetrates and hands/feet become warm and sweating occurs, recovery ensues. If hands and feet remain cold after ironing, it is incurable. (From *Nanyang Huoren Shu*)
A person developed a toxic carbuncle on the waist, red and swollen but unbroken, with unbearable pain requiring him to walk bent over. A practitioner took liver from a freshly slaughtered male pig, sliced it to the size of the carbuncle, applied it to the lesion, and bound it tightly with cloth. After one day and night, the condition improved significantly. The liver turned black and emitted an unbearable stench; it was discarded on the ground, and even dogs refused to eat it. There remained a hard spot the size of a little finger below, caused by the liver slice being too small to cover the entire area completely, but ultimately no other complications arose.
