To treat headache, grind *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* (Saponin Pod) into powder and insufflate it into the nasal cavity; stop once sneezing occurs.
Another prescription: To treat chronic or recent lateral or frontal headaches, extract juice from radish (*Raphani Sativi Radix*) equivalent to one shell of a clam. Have the patient lie supine; if pain is on the right, instill into the left nostril; if on the left, instill into the right nostril. If pain is bilateral, instill into both nostrils simultaneously.
Another prescription: Grind *Piperis Longi Fructus* (Long Pepper Fruit) into powder. Have the patient hold water in their mouth. For left-sided pain, insufflate an amount equivalent to "one character" (a small measure) into the left nostril; for right-sided pain, insufflate into the right nostril. Immediate effect is expected.
Another prescription: Take one clove of garlic, peel it, and grind to extract juice. Have the patient lie supine with head hanging down. Dip chopsticks into the garlic juice and apply to the nasal cavity. The pungent force will rise to the brain and eyes, inducing tears.
Another prescription: Take 1 liang of *Ricini Semen* (Castor Bean Seed), remove the skin, grind until pasty, and apply topically to the painful area.
To treat Chan Hou Feng (Entangling Throat Wind, an acute throat condition), administer tung oil (*Verniciae Folium Oil*) or oil accumulated at the bottom of a lamp holder orally to induce vomiting; the wind-pathogen will be expelled immediately.
Another prescription: Use *Kalimeris Indica* (Ma Lan Tou Cao). Harvest leaves in summer and roots in winter. Crush and extract juice, mix with vinegar, and instill into the nasal cavity.
Another prescription: To treat Hou Bi (Throat Closure, a critical condition where the throat is blocked and requires urgent intervention), use 0.5 liang of *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* (Saponin Pod) with skin and seeds removed. Grind into fine powder. Apply a small amount to the affected area using the tip of a chopstick. Then, mix the powder with vinegar paste and apply to the neck. After a short while, pus and blood will discharge, providing immediate relief.
Another prescription: Burn snake slough (*Bombyx Batryticatus* alternative context implies reptile skin, specifically Ophichthus or similar, here referred to as She Tui) to ash. Use 1 qian per dose, insufflate into the throat using a bamboo tube.
Another prescription: Grind raw *Alumen* (White Alum) into fine powder. Apply to a cotton swab (Mian Zhen) and press into the throat to rupture the abscess immediately. The cotton swab is made by wrapping cotton around a elm twig (*Ulmus* species) to the size of a date pit.
Another prescription: Use *Belamcandae Rhizoma* (She Gan, root of Belamcanda chinensis). Use fresh material as needed. Grind thoroughly and swallow the juice. If it induces vomiting by affecting the viscera, the pathogen is expelled. Alternatively, grind with vinegar, hold the juice in the mouth, and expectorate saliva to achieve cure.
Another prescription: Use tender mugwort leaves (*Artemisiae Argyi Folium*), grind and swallow the juice. This is also effective. Alternatively, crush fresh *Euphorbia humifusa* (Gu Chui Cao) and *Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix* (Tu Niu Xi) together, extract juice, and administer orally.
Another prescription: Part the hair on the vertex of the patient's head to the left and right. Pull firmly with hands until a tearing sound is heard. Immediate effect is expected.
Another prescription: Insufflate *Spuri Euphorbiae Herba* (Ma Pi Bo, commonly known as Spotted Spurge) into the throat. Symptoms will cease immediately.
Another prescription: Using a cloth-wrapped needle, prick the lateral side of the thumb of both hands, approximately the width of a leek leaf from the nail bed. Prick to a depth of 2 fen. Squeeze out blood by stroking the finger. Rinse the mouth with warm water. Cure is immediate.
Another prescription: To treat Shuang Ru E (Double Tonsillar Swelling/Epiglottitis-like swelling), use two slices of *Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus* (Saponin Pod) and 1 qian of Bai Cao Shuang (soot from the bottom of a cooking pot, derived from burning various weeds). Grind into powder, mix with cold water, add a few drops of clear sesame oil, and administer orally. Alternatively, apply ash from burnt rush pith (*Junci Medulla*) topically.
Another prescription: To treat throat swelling resembling an inverted bell, dip chicken feathers in salt and apply to the swelling. It will dissipate without need for lancing; lancing may cause injury.
To treat Chan Hou Feng, crush red safflower (*Carthami Flos*) and take the juice orally. If there is no dampness, soak dried flowers and drink the infusion.
To treat Hou Bi, use equal parts of *Chalcanthitum* (Dan Fan) and *Alumen* (Bai Fan), both raw. Grind into extremely fine powder and mix. When initial throat pain is felt, insufflate this powder into the painful area using a reed tube. Keep the mouth closed and do not swallow. After a short time, when saliva flows and the medicinal sensation eases, rinse with warm water. Repeat one or two times to reduce swelling and pain. If treatment is delayed and the swelling turns red-purple and reaches the size of a saponin pod, increase the frequency of application; it can still resolve the swelling. White boiled water may be used for rinsing/swallowing residue. Avoid raw and cold foods.
Another prescription: Use the herb Jin Suo Chi (Golden Lock Key), also known as Ma Ti Cao (Horse Hoof Grass). Crush the root, mix well water (Jing Hua Shui), and administer orally. Immediate effect is expected.
