To treat *Xiao Ke* (Wasting and Thirsting Syndrome, characterized by excessive thirst, hunger, urination, and emaciation), use five *sheng* (a unit of volume) of river snails, add one *dou* (a unit of volume) of water, soak overnight, and drink this water when thirsty. Change the water daily for soaking.
Another prescription: Drink the water used for reeling silk. If unavailable, boil raw silk in water to make a decoction and drink it.
Another prescription: Grind *Galla Chinensis* (Five-gall nut) into powder, mix with water to form a dose equivalent to a "square-inch scoop" (*fangcun bi*), and take at any time without restriction.
Another prescription: Deeply excavate large *Trichosanthes Radix* (Kudzu root/Chinese Snakegourd root), peel off the rough skin, cut into one-cun segments, and soak in water. Change the water once daily. After soaking for five days, remove the roots, mash them finely, squeeze out the juice through fine silk cloth (similar to extracting starch), dry the juice, mix with water to form a dose of a "square-inch scoop," take three to four times daily. Adding cow's milk is particularly beneficial.
Another prescription: Take the middle section of *Oryzae Sativa Culm* (Rice straw), burn it to ash, leach the ash with water to obtain the juice, and drink it. Alternatively, do not burn but decoct and drink; or sip fresh cow's milk slowly. Alternatively, extract juice from fresh radish and take small amounts occasionally.
Another prescription: Take two tiles from an old roof, wash them clean, crush them, boil in water to make a concentrated decoction, and take one small cup warm after meals.
Another prescription: Take forty-nine live garden snails, add one bowl of water, place in a porcelain vessel, cover it, and soak overnight. The snails will climb up the sides of the vessel. Take the water and drink it warm. For severe cases, no more than three doses are needed.
To treat *Huo Luan* (Cholera-like syndrome) with muscle cramps: Blow *Sophorae Tonkinensis Semen* (Soap bean) powder into the nose; sneezing will stop the cramps.
Another prescription: To treat *Huo Luan* with muscle cramps, vomiting, and diarrhea: Mash fresh *Phaseoli Lunati Folium* (Cowpea leaf) raw, steep in a small amount of vinegar to extract the juice, and drink.
Another prescription: To treat *Huo Luan* causing abdominal distension, fullness, and pain, without vomiting or diarrhea, but with cold sweats and near-apnea: Use three bowls of extremely salty brine. Drink one bowl hot, induce vomiting by probing the throat to expel undigested food. If vomiting does not occur, administer again; after vomiting, administer again; repeat until three vomits have occurred. This method surpasses all other prescriptions. Laypeople consider it a rustic and inferior remedy and disdain its use, preferring to die rather than try it, which is truly regrettable.
Another prescription: Dig a pit in a clean area, pour in one bucket of freshly drawn well water, stir until turbid, wait for it to clarify, then drink three to five cups continuously for immediate recovery. Strictly avoid drinking rice water.
Another prescription: To treat *Huo Luan* with cramps spreading to the abdomen, extreme pain, and impending death: Use one *liang* (unit of weight) of *Zingiberis Recens Rhizoma* (Fresh ginger), crush it, add five *qian* (unit of weight) of wine, heat, and drink.
Another prescription: To treat *Huo Luan* with vomiting and diarrhea where ingested medicine is immediately expelled, leaving no effective treatment: Mix half a bowl of well water with half a bowl of boiling water and drink.
Another prescription: To treat *Huo Luan* with vomiting, diarrhea, and heart/abdominal pain: Wrap one bowl of fried salt in cloth, place it on the chest and abdomen, and apply heat using a hot iron to penetrate the qi. Also, apply fried salt to the back with heat to achieve cure.
Another prescription: To treat *Huo Luan* with fatal cramps, where only warmth remains in the abdomen: Fill the umbilicus with salt, pack it firmly, and moxibustion of seven cones applied directly on the salt.
