[Bu Huan Jin Dan (Golden Pill That Does Not Change)]
Efficacy: Disperses wind and clears heat. Indications: Stroke with deviation of the mouth and eyes. (This formula has considerable power to dispel wind; it is suitable for cases where wind pathogen is dominant and accompanied by cold, leading to obstruction and closure due to phlegm and qi stagnation. It can also be used for deviation of the corners of the mouth.)
Ingredients: Jingjie Sui (Schizonepetae Spica), Gancao Zhi (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus), Bohe Ye (Menthae Haplocalycis Folium), Qianghuo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Chuanxiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Baifuzi (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix), Wutou (Aconiti Radix).
[Sou Feng Shun Qi Wan (Pill to Search Wind and Smooth Qi)]
Indications: Constipation caused by wind-dryness, resulting in obstruction of qi movement; used temporarily. Its function of dispersing wind, moistening dryness, and smoothing qi is indispensable. (The book exaggerates this formula, claiming that long-term use eliminates all diseases and rejuvenates the elderly, which defies logic. However, it also states that pregnant women should not take it, and if discomfort is felt after taking the medicine, it should be supplemented with mutton stomach and lung soup. This indicates that the medicine is potent and harsh, and should not be taken for a long time.)
Ingredients: Cheqianzi (Plantaginis Semen), Baibinglang (Arecae Pericarpium), Huomazi (Cannabis Fructus, lightly fried and husked), Niuxi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, soaked in wine), Yuliren (Pruni Semen, soaked in water, skin removed and ground separately), Tusizi (Cuscutae Semen, half raw and half cooked). Preparation: Made into pills with refined honey.
Indications: Coexistence of wind-dryness and intestinal stagnation, as well as blood in stool due to intestinal wind.
[Shun Feng Yun Qi San (Powder to Smooth Wind and Uniform Qi)]
Indications: Stroke or qi strike, presenting with hemiplegia and deviation of the mouth and eyes. (Hemiplegia is also known as hemiparesis/paralysis on one side. The Classics state: If the Stomach pulse is deep, sluggish, and choppy, and the Heart pulse is small, firm, and rapid, these are signs of hemiparesis. In men, onset is often on the left; in women, on the right. If aphasia is absent and the tongue moves freely, treatment is feasible. This is because the Heart governs the spirit mechanism, and the Stomach is the root source for nourishing the body with food and fluids. When root and branch harmonize, the Yuan Qi from the Danzhong and Qi Sea fills and distributes throughout, nourishing the four zang organs and the Triple Burner, circulating evenly. If root and branch are discordant, Yuan Qi becomes deficient and fails to distribute evenly through the meridians, leading to hemiparesis; failure to distribute evenly to the five zang organs leads to aphasia. The Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian runs alongside the mouth and circles the lips. Obstruction causes tendon spasm; heat causes tendon flaccidity. Cold on the left and heat on the right lead to spasm on the left and flaccidity on the right; heat on the left and cold on the right lead to spasm on the right and flaccidity on the left. Yangming Metal governs contraction and tightening; wind disease leads to tendon contraction. Extreme Wood mimics Metal, adopting the transformation of its conqueror (Metal), manifesting as dryness and coolness. In such cases, Guizhi (Cinnamomi Ramulus) and Fuzi (Prepared Aconiti Lateralis Radix) should not be used. Yuan Rong stated: Diseases caused by alcohol and dampness can also manifest as Bi syndrome, with deviation of the mouth and eyes and hemiplegia, classified under stroke. One should drain damp-heat/toxin rather than treating it as wind disease and inducing sweating. The views in *Yanyi Jian* are consistent with this.) Additionally treats wind qi stagnation.
Ingredients: Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma, 2 qian), Wuyao (Linderae Radix, 1.5 qian), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma), Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, 0.5 qian), Chenxiang (Aquilariae Resina, ground into juice), Gancao Zhi (Prepared Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma), Qingpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Mugua (Chaenomelis Fructus), Ziye (Perillae Folium), Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix).
Commentary: The theory behind "Yun Qi" (Uniforming Qi) is profound. Internal qi in the body should be unobstructed. External wind cannot reside long and is easily dispersed. Thus, uniforming qi is equivalent to regulating qi.
