Whenever Yin abscesses (a type of ulcer originating from the Yin aspect, characterized by diffuse swelling without a head and unchanged skin color) or "ghost pathogens" (pathogenic factors or mental influences causing strange diseases) invade the human body, or when internal cataracts (internal eye diseases such as lens opacity) appear in both eyes, the treatment methods for these three conditions all originate from the *Huangdi Neijing* (Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon). These ulcers are fundamentally caused by Kidney deficiency, invaded by Yin-cold pathogens. The cold pathogens stagnate in the meridians and adhere to the bones, thereby rotting the tendons and endangering life. The treatment must strongly tonify Kidney Qi, strengthen Yang to eliminate Yin-cold. Just as the earth naturally generates muscle tissue upon receiving Yang Qi, the Yuan Qi (Original Qi) will circulate throughout the body without being invaded by the bone marrow. Nowadays, these methods have been incorrectly categorized under Surgery. Quack doctors, unaware of this principle, instead use detoxifying and cooling medicines, leading to many deaths due to extreme depletion of Yuan Qi. (I personally witnessed a woman suffering from a Yin abscess at the Futu point [ST32]. The lesion was flat, pale in color, and as large as an inverted bowl. She consulted a surgical doctor at Genshan Gate who administered four doses of fire-clearing and detoxifying drugs. Before suppuration could occur, she died from diarrhea.)
The invasion of "ghost pathogens" into the human body is always due to excessive Yin and deficient Yang. Ghosts can adhere to Yin Qi, making illness easy to develop; however, if the Sunlight (Yang Qi) is abundant, how would they dare approach? The treatment method involves strongly tonifying Yuan Qi and adding spirit-nourishing techniques, after which the ghost pathogens will naturally leave the body. Families ignorant of this principle specifically seek talismans and spells; such heterodox practices are absolutely ineffective. Or, they entrust quack doctors who misdiagnose the condition as dryness-fire, administering cooling medicines, or clearing heat and resolving phlegm, resulting in unjustified death, which is truly lamentable. (In secular society, people resort to shamans and diviners even for minor ailments; how much more so for disasters caused by ghosts! Furthermore, since doctors often use cold and cooling remedies, it is not easy for patients to be cured.)
Internal cataracts arise from the deficiency of both Spleen and Kidney, resulting in the failure of Sunlight (Yang Qi) to flourish. Therefore, short-sightedness is primarily governed by the Spleen, while blurred vision is primarily governed by the Kidney. The method should be to warm and tonify the Spleen and Kidney, strengthen Yang Qi to eliminate Yin shadows (obscurations in the eye), and thus restore clear vision. Nowadays, Ophthalmology has been established separately to form a specialized skill, using only cooling prescriptions. This freezes and damages Yuan Yang, leading to death from Spleen and Kidney deficiency. They fail to realize that all disease patterns have orthodox methods in the *Huangdi Neijing*. Later generations arbitrarily divided medicine into thirteen departments with false names. Consequently, those with limited knowledge specialize in one department, forming biased views. This is like recognizing only a single bubble in the vast ocean; lacking comprehensive management, such actions easily cause harm to life. How sad! (I witnessed a certain Official Chen from the Imperial Medical Bureau coming from the capital, boasting of his ability to restore sight to the blind. He specifically used cold water to freeze the condition and applied cold ointments to drive the pathology inward. For individuals with strong constitutions and heavy fire, his effects were rapid; however, for those with weak constitutions and depleted Yuan Qi, none escaped the harm of Yin-cold. A salt vendor's wife in Xieqiao took half a cup of the ointment and immediately suffered abdominal pain. Her husband forced her to finish it, resulting in severe vomiting and death. In a panic, her husband jumped from a window onto the street, crying out: "Official Chen's medicine killed my wife!" He cursed extensively, implicating ancestors, causing all who heard it to shudder. I record this to demonstrate how cooling medicines harm people and to warn against trusting hearsay over direct observation.)
