The acupoints contraindicated for needling are recorded in Volume 4 of the *Zhen Jing* (Classic of Acupuncture).
I have also heard that when Emperor Gaozu of Han suffered from an illness that did not heal, Li Shi (Physician Li) stimulated Jueque (CV14), and the patient revived; when the Crown Prince suddenly died in a state of Jue syndrome (sudden collapse or loss of consciousness), Yue Ren (Bian Que/Qin Yueren) needled Weihui (a point at the vertex where multiple meridians intersect), and he regained consciousness. Zhen Quan stimulated Jianjing (GB21) and Quchi (LI11), enabling a patient with arm pain to resume drawing a bow; Hua Tuo stimulated Xuanzhong (GB39) and Huantiao (GB30), allowing a patient with foot paralysis to stand and walk immediately. Qiu Fu needled Yaoshu (BL23), freeing a possessed individual from deep affliction; Wang Zuan needled Jiaoshu (BL27), causing a spirit entity to vanish instantly. Needling Ganshu (BL18) and Mingmen (GV4) enabled a blind person to see the finest details of autumn down; selecting Shaoyang meridian points and Jiaobie points enabled a deaf man to hear the sound of summer mosquitoes.
Alas! As we move further away from the sages, this Dao gradually declines. Some abandon their studies because they fail to grasp its essence, while others flaunt their skills and violate contraindications. I am foolish and shallow, finding it difficult to align with the profound words. The supreme Dao is deep and abstruse; how many can truly attain it? I casually record these words, daring not to show them to the enlightened and accomplished. Perhaps they may serve to enlighten the minds of beginners.
Sanyli (ST36) and Neiting (ST44); Quchi (LI11) and Hegu (LI4) together.
Weizhong (BL40) paired with Chengshan (BL57); extending down to Kunlun (BL60) reaches the extreme.
Huantiao (GB30) and Yanglingquan (GB34); Tongli (HT5) and Lieque (LU7).
When the condition requires comprehensive support, use the "Dan" (bearing/supporting) method; when it requires interception, use the "Jie" (intercepting/cutting) method.
Focus on memorizing these constantly; do not share them with idle people.
Three hundred and sixty acupoints are not as effective as these eleven points.
This method is known by few; it is like a golden lock sealing the city gates.
Using acupuncture to treat diseases is like pouring hot water on snow—rapidly resolving the issue.
Do not transmit this to unqualified persons; do not leak this heavenly secret.
Sanyli (ST36) is located three cun below the knee, between the two tendons. It can relieve abdominal distension and fullness, effectively treating cold in the stomach, borborygmus (intestinal rumbling) and accumulations, swelling and fullness, soreness in the knees and shins, emaciation due to overstrain, and various Qi-related disorders such as Qi Gu (abdominal mass). For individuals over thirty years old, needling this point can improve vision. To locate the point, lift the foot; mastering the technique is not difficult.
Neiting (ST44) is located between the second and third toes of the foot, belonging to the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian. Needling treats cold extremities (Jue limb), aversion to noise, generalized urticaria (wind rash), yawning, and toothache. For malaria with loss of appetite, needling brings clarity and comfort.
Quchi (LI11) is found in the depression when the elbow is flexed. It effectively treats elbow pain, hemiplegia with inability to adduct the arm, weakness preventing one from drawing a bow, flaccid tendons making it difficult to comb hair, throat obstruction with dyspnea nearing suffocation, persistent fever, and generalized urticaria. Acupuncture here will surely bring healing.
