The *Yellow Emperor's Inner Canon* states: The North corresponds to the color black, internally connects with the Kidney (Shen, 肾), and externally opens into the two yin orifices (er yin, 二阴). Chen Feixia stated: Regarding the two yin orifices, the anterior orifice excretes urine, and the posterior orifice excretes feces. It is also said that the anterior orifice governs Qi (Qi, 气), while the posterior orifice governs Blood (Xue, 血). Essentially, the fluids in the Bladder (Pangguang, 膀胱) are transformed from Blood, and can be expelled only through the propulsion of Qi. The transportation function of the Taiyin (Spleen/Lung) is the movement of Qi, which becomes moistened and unobstructed by Blood. The smooth flow of stool and urine demonstrates the mutual attachment of Qi and Blood. Human life depends on these orifices for entry and exit. Clear Yang (Qingyang, 清阳) exits through the upper orifices, referring to respiration; Turbid Yin (Zhuoyin, 浊阴) exits through the lower orifices, referring to defecation and urination. If even a single breath fails to circulate, vital mechanisms cease, leading to death. Therefore, if both stool and urine are obstructed, accompanied by abdominal pain, panting, vomiting, nausea, and irritability, it is considered incurable. For cases of constipation of both stool and urine, Ba Zheng San (Eight Righteousness Powder) is appropriate. Externally, applying the Umbilical Pickling Method (Yan Qi Fa, 腌脐法) and the Honey Suppository Decoction Method (Mi Dao Jian Fa, 蜜导煎法) will ensure the patency of both anterior and posterior passages.
Ba Zheng San (Eight Righteousness Powder): Treats heat accumulation in the Lower Jiao (Xiajiao, 下焦), causing obstruction of both stool and urine.
Tong Cao (Akebiae Caulis, 木通) (1 qian)
Hua Shi (Talcum, 滑石) (1 qian)
Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus, 栀子仁) (1 qian)
Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen, 车前子) (1 qian)
Qu Mai (Dianthi Herba, 瞿麦穗) (1 qian)
Jin Wen Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma, 锦纹黄 - specifically Dahuang) (1 qian)
Mang Xiao (Natrii Sulfas, 芒硝) (1 qian, equal parts, dosage adjusted according to the child's age).
Except for Dahuang and Mang Xiao, decoct all other ingredients in water until thoroughly cooked. Add Dahuang and simmer again. Strain the liquid, then add Mang Xiao to dissolve and take orally.
Umbilical Pickling Method (Yan Qi Fa): Treats obstruction of both stool and urine due to pathology in the Middle and Lower Jiao.
Lian Xu (Nelumbinis Stamen, 莲须) (1 qian)
Sheng Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens, 生姜) (1 qian)
Dan Dou Chi (Sojae Semnis Preparatum, 淡豆豉) (1 qian)
Shi Yan (Halitum, 食盐) (1 qian)
Pound all ingredients together into a paste, form into a cake, warm it, and apply it to the umbilicus. Secure with a cloth band. After some time, when Qi circulation resumes, stool and urine will naturally pass.
Honey Suppository Decoction Method (Mi Dao Jian Fa): Treats obstruction of both stool and urine. By unblocking the large intestine, the Qi in the Lower Jiao moves, thereby facilitating the passage of urine.
Bai Mi (Mel, 白蜜): Refine until it forms beads that do not disperse when dropped in water. Mix with 2 qian of finely powdered Zao Jiao (Gleditsiae Sinensis Fructus, 皂角). Blend evenly. Once slightly cooled, shape into a cylinder the thickness of a little finger. Coat the exterior with Scallion Juice (Cong Xin, 葱涎) and gently insert into the anus (Gu Dao, 谷道). When Qi circulates, stool will pass.
Tu Weisheng stated: Using Zao Jiao water injected into the anus via a tube produces rapid evacuation of stool, which is even more effective than the Honey Suppository Method. Furthermore, the binding of Cold and Heat pathogens in the Bladder can also cause obstruction; this distinction must not be overlooked.
