[Dai Zhe]
Salty in taste, non-toxic. It primarily treats women's genital erosion (ulceration of the external genitalia), high fever, and dry scabs. It grows on the shady slopes of high mountain cliffs, with a color white like fat. It can be harvested at any time.
This mineral resembles Zhongru Shi (Stalactite) and Konggong Nie, hence it also bears the name "Nie," but it is found on cliffs. Although it exists today, it is no longer commonly used.
[Note] This is indeed Tu Ru (Earth Milk). It is produced in earthen caves on flat ground northwest of Sanjiao Post Station, Zhang County, Weizhou. There are over sixty pits visible where ancestors once mined it. Locals state that Tao Hongjing and the *Shennong Bencao Jing* both claim it grows on cliffs, which is incorrect. Currently, it is not adopted in Weizhou.
[Dai Zhe (Alternative Record)]
Bitter and sweet in taste, cold in nature, non-toxic. It treats Gui Zhu (ghostly pestilence/chronic wasting disease), Zei Feng (sudden pathogenic winds), Gu Du (gu poison), and evil spirits; it eliminates toxic pathogens in the abdomen; it treats women's leukorrhea with bleeding (Chi Wo Lou Xia), vaginal discharge from the Dai Mai (Girdle Vessel), miscarriage; it nourishes blood and qi, clears heat from the blood vessels of the five zang organs, resolves blood bi (painful obstruction due to blood stasis) and blood stasis; it treats adults and children suffering from fright qi entering the abdomen, and impotence.
Also known as Xu Wan. Those originating from Gumu are called Xu Wan; those from Dai Commandery are called Dai Zhe; another name is Xue Shi. It grows in the valleys of Qi State. The best quality is red, crimson, and bluish-green, glossy like a rooster's comb, capable of staining fingernails without fading. It can be harvested at any time.
It is incompatible with Tianxiong (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Preparata). Old theories claimed it was soil from under the city gates of Dai Commandery. Sources in Jiangdong have long been exhausted. Recent offerings from the Wei Kingdom were merely local red earth, not the true substance. While its use in secular medicine has declined, it remains a crucial ingredient in alchemical formulas, alongside Rong Yan (Salpetrae Crystallizatum) and Lu Xian (Halitum), all of which are urgently needed.
[Note] This stone mostly comes from Daizhou, said to be mined from mountains, not soil from under city gates, nor does it grow in the valleys of Qi and Dai as previously stated. Currently, Chizhou Ting Mountain produces red stones with red, crimson, and bluish-green hues. The red ones are glossy like a rooster's comb; locals only mine them to paint pillars, while the purple ones are dull. This substance resembles that from Daizhou and has been used since ancient times. Now, in Mingsha County, Lingzhou, along the Yellow River, digging four or five chi deep in flat land yields stones with a smooth red surface and a purple interior like chicken liver, which far surpasses those from Qizhou and Daizhou.
