Water buffalo horn treats epidemic febrile diseases with alternating chills and fever, headache; bone marrow tonifies the middle jiao, fills the bone marrow, and prolongs life with long-term use. Bone marrow is sweet in taste, warm in nature, and non-toxic. It primarily calms the five zang organs, regulates the three jiao, warms the bone marrow, tonifies the middle jiao, reconnects severed injuries, benefits qi, stops diarrhea and dysentery, eliminates thirst (Xiao Ke), and should be taken with wine. Gallbladder can be used for pills. Gallbladder is bitter in taste and extremely cold in nature. It clears heat and thirst in the heart and abdomen, relieves oral dryness, and benefits eye vision.
The entries for ox horn and bone marrow here are written in cinnabar ink; its gallbladder was appended under the Rhinoscrotum Bovis (Niu Huang) entry in the *Shennong Bencao Jing*. It is placed here due to categorical similarity, not as a superior grade drug. It is now extracted and listed here according to convention, not counted in the total number of items, similar to those written in black ink, belonging to a separate category limit. Ox heart treats forgetfulness. Ox liver treats blurred vision. Ox kidney tonifies kidney qi and benefits essence.

Urine from yellow castrated bulls and black bulls treats edema, abdominal distension, and leg swelling, promoting urination.
Among these cattle, yellow cattle are best, green (black/yellowish) cattle are finest, and water buffalo can be used for food. Animals that died naturally refer to those dying from epidemics; their meat contains much toxin. The intestines of green cattle should not be eaten with dog meat or dog blood, as this causes disease.
