Sweet in taste, neutral in nature, non-toxic. It primarily treats diseases of the five Zang organs and all ailments, softens tendons and strengthens bones, calms the Hun and Po (ethereal soul and corporeal soul), nourishes muscles, tonifies Qi, promotes blood circulation, treats twelve types of leukorrhea in women, resolves Qi stagnation with urinary difficulty (Qi Long), and clarifies the eyes and ears. Long-term consumption enables one to withstand cold and heat, eliminates hunger and thirst, prolongs life like an immortal, lightens the body, and extends longevity. If taken by a person on their deathbed in five jin (approx. 2.5-3 kg), their complexion remains unchanged for three years after death. Also known as Yu Zha (Jade Nail). Grows in the valleys of Lantian, can be harvested at any time.
It is incompatible with Dong Hua (Adenophora flower). Lantian is located southeast of Chang'an, historically producing fine jade; this substance is likely the essence of jade. The white variety has a clear and transparent texture and can be dissolved into water, hence the name Yu Quan (Jade Spring). People today no longer recognize it precisely, generally referring to it simply as Jade. Zhang Hua further stated that for ingestion, one should use the white jade from the valley of Lantian; regular consumption of this item should lead to immortality. There are accounts of individuals who took five jin before death, remaining unchanged in color for three years post-mortem. Historically, tombs excavated revealing corpses appearing alive often contained significant amounts of gold and jade inside and outside the body. In Han dynasty customs, kings and nobles were buried with pearl jackets and jade coffins to ensure imperishability. The method of refining and ingesting should follow the "Immortal Scriptures" regarding jade consumption. Grinding jade into fine powder/water particles for appropriate use is advised. Although its nature is neutral, those who consume jade often experience fever resembling symptoms of Hanshi San (Cold Food Powder). Since gold and jade are precious treasures of heaven and earth, unlike other stones, if one does not deeply understand the dosage and precautions, do not use them lightly.
[Commentary] Yu Quan refers to the liquid essence of jade. The best quality comes from the Jade Pool in immortal chambers. Those artificially processed into jade paste have inferior efficacy compared to natural liquids!
Sweet in taste, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Primarily clears heat in the stomach, relieves wheezing, alleviates irritability and fullness, stops thirst. Take ground into particles the size of hemp seeds or beans. Long-term consumption lightens the body and extends longevity.
Grows in Lantian, can be harvested at any time.
It is antagonistic to Deer Antler. The term "Yu Xie" (Jade Fragments) here refers to jade ground into fragments, not a different substance. The "Immortal Scriptures" mention consuming grain-like jade, pounded to the size of rice grains, then dissolved using vinegar or similar agents until it becomes mud-like, or sometimes mixed into a paste. When ingesting jade, one must never use already crafted vessels or raw jade nodules from tombs. Fine jade originates from Lantian, the Xu Shanting region of Nanyang, waters of Rinan and Lu Rong, and foreign lands such as Khotan and Shule. The "Immortal Prescriptions" call jade Xuan Zhen (Mysterious Truth); true jade is pure white like lard and rings clearly when struck. Many look-alikes exist, so careful distinction is necessary. This explains why Bian He wept bitterly upon having his stone mistaken for jade.
[Commentary] For ingesting jade, dissolving it into water form is superior. Taking it as hemp-seed-sized fragments allows the essence to moisten the Zang and Fu organs, while the dregs should be excreted intact. Taking it as powder may cause strangury and obstruction. The rationale for taking it as fragments is profound.
