Treats wind obstruction, swelling of the cheeks and jaw, internal formation of nodules, and strangling throat wind (Chantou Feng).
Danggui Radix Angelicae Sinensis (two qian, roasted dry), Tianma Rhizoma Gastrodiae (three qian, used raw), Baijiangcan Bombyx Batryticatus (roasted dry), Nanting Rhizoma Arisaematis (washed with decoction, pounded finely, processed with ginger juice, roasted).
The above ingredients are ground into powder. Each dose is two qian, taken with one cup of water, three slices of fresh ginger, and a small amount of Jingjie Herba Schizonepetae. Decoct together until reduced to seventy percent volume, take warm after meals, three times daily. Avoid foods that trigger wind toxicity. If swelling does not subside, add three qian of Xionghuang Realgar and grind with the previous medicines into powder for decoction. This formula was transmitted by Qiu Yongxing from He Village, Chuzhou; personal use proved effective!
Treats strangling throat wind (Chantou Feng).
Badou Semen Crotonis and Qizhou Banxia Rhizoma Pinelliae Preparata (each three or seven grains).
First, lightly crush the Banxia, dividing each grain into four pieces. Remove the heart membrane of the Badou. Place in silver, copper, or ceramic vessels with three bowls of rice vinegar. Boil using alternating mild and strong heat until the vinegar is completely evaporated. Rinse slightly with clear vinegar and grind into a paste. For patients suffering from strangling throat wind, throat closure (Houbi), or epilepsy, administer one "wo" ear measure of the paste dissolved in one foot-length stream of fresh ginger juice. In severe cases, shortly after administering the medicine, the patient will naturally vomit out foul phlegm resembling fish jelly, leading to immediate recovery! Extremely efficacious!
Another prescription: Use Zaojiaeci Spina Gleditsiae Sinensis, regardless of quantity. Scrape off the skin and soak in raw Sesame Oil (Sesamum indicum L.). The older the better. When illness occurs, drip the oil into the mouth; it induces vomiting or rupture, providing immediate relief.
Ji Hou Bi Li Ying Wan (Urgent Throat Bi Immediate Response Pill).
Baijiangcan Bombyx Batryticatus and Baifan Alum (Alumen).
Grind equal parts into fine powder, form pills with honey, and dissolve in the mouth.
In critical distress, forcefully pull the hair at the vertex of the head to restore patency immediately. If there is no hair, pinch the skin at the vertex. Physician Liu obtained this method but had not tried it. Suddenly, a soldier suffered from severe sore throat and inability to speak. Upon hastily removing his head covering, it was found he suffered from alopecia due to alcoholism (jiu tu). Following the method, someone pinched the skin at the vertex vigorously, resulting in immediate relief. This is the method from Marshal Li Mo.
On the side corresponding to the swelling and pain, needle the area under the outer edge of the thumbnail, aligned with the nail root. It does not matter whether left or right for men or women. Use a common household needle; efficacy is achieved upon bleeding. If the situation is extremely critical, needling both thumbs is especially excellent. Alternatively, moxa the Zusanli ST36 acupoint for fourteen or twenty-one moxa cones. Magistrate Zheng Weikang once suffered from throat bi (Hou Bi), unable to even swallow water. After moxa therapy on Zusanli, he recovered.
