Formula of Hu Yunshi Bingyi.
Qu Cum Medicamento (Si Liang) [Shen Qu, Leavened Dough] Ginger (Ban Jin, half catty; select plump and tender pieces, wash clean, grate finely, mix with Shen Qu to form cakes, dry by baking) Caodoukou Fructus (Liang Qian San, one and a half liang; processed until cooked through, peel off skin, then weigh) Hordeum Vulgare Semen (Yi Liang, one liang; lightly stir-fried) Glycyrrhiza Uralensis Radix Et Rhizoma (Liang Qian San, one and a half liang; honey-fried)
Crush and sieve the above ingredients into fine powder. Add a small amount of salt as usual, and take by brewing with boiling water.
Hordeum Vulgare Semen et Tritici Sativum Semen (Ge Er Sheng, two sheng each) Glycyrrhiza Uralensis Radix Et Rhizoma (Si Liang, four liang; honey-fried) Amomum Villosum Fructus (Liang Qian San, one and a half liang) Zingiber Officinale Rhizoma (Yi Jin, one catty; slice thinly with skin on) Sal (Liu Liang, six liang)
First, stir-fry the Hordeum and Tritici seeds until cooked, add the other herbs, dry by baking, and grind into fine powder. Store in porcelain vessels. It can be taken before or after meals; it is excellent for warming the spleen and resolving retained fluids. Since the coarse skins of the barley and wheat may be difficult to consume, it is recommended to separately grind them to obtain pure powder first. Adding eight pieces of Myristica Fragrans Semen (nutmeg) is even better.
Zingiber Officinale Rhizoma (Yi Jin, one catty; do not remove skin, slice thinly) Glycyrrhiza Uralensis Radix Et Rhizoma (Si Liang, four liang; stir-fried) Sal (Liu Liang, six liang) Hordeum Vulgare Semen (stir-fried) Qu Cum Medicamento (stir-fried, two liang each)
Soak all ingredients together overnight, then lightly stir-fry or bake until dry, and grind into powder. Take by brewing with boiling water.
Agastache Rugosa Herba (Muxiang), Laurus Camphora Ramulus (Dingxiang), Santalum Album Lignum (Tánxiāng), Aquilaria Sinalis Wood (Chénxiāng), Panax Ginseng Radix Et Rhizoma (Ren Shen) (Ge Er Liang, two liang each) Glycyrrhiza Uralensis Radix Et Rhizoma (Yi Liang, one liang) Areca Seed (Binglang, Ban Liang, half liang) Poria Cocos Sclerotium (Baifuling, peeled, two liang)
Finely chop the above eight herbs. Decoct with two sheng of good quality water until the water is completely evaporated. Alternatively, store in a silver vessel and steam-seal it; this method is particularly effective. First, select soft and rotten pieces, slice and bake until half-dry. Combine with drier pieces and bake until dry. Crush and sieve into powder. Do not add salt; take with tea. Another variation adds Ban Liang (half liang) of Agastache Rugosa Herba (Huoxiang).
Also known as Yuanye Tang.
Salt-fermented Soybean (Haoshi Chi, one catty; dry by baking, separately crush and sieve into fine powder) Anethum Graveolens Herba (Shiluo), Foeniculum Vulgare Fructus (Huixiang), Carum Carvi Fruit (Maqinzi) (Ge Ban Liang, half liang each) Zanthoxylum Bungeanum Pericarpium (Jiao, half liang; remove eyes, stir-fry until dry) Artemisia Capillaris Herba Dry (Ganyinch en, one liang) Sal (Wu Liang, five liang; stir-fry until dry) Zingiber Officinale Rhizoma Dry (Ganjiang, half liang; processed) Glycyrrhiza Uralensis Radix Et Rhizoma (Ban Liang, half liang; stir-fried)
Mix all ingredients into a fine powder, then pound evenly with the soybean powder in a mortar. Sieve through a horse-hair sieve to ensure extreme uniformity. For each dose, add an arbitrary amount of KT Touzaozi (a type of dried fruit/confection); it is optional. It can simply be taken like a decoction by brewing with water.
