I have heard that Heaven nurtures the people, but cannot prevent them from having diseases, nor can it prevent them from having desires. Externally, they are subject to the invasion of the Six Excesses (Wind, Cold, Summerheat, Dampness, Dryness, and Fire), and internally, they suffer from the Seven Emotions (Joy, Anger, Worry, Thought, Sorrow, Fear, and Fright). When external and internal pathogenic factors invade and harass, the fragile human body cannot stand on its own. Therefore, when the Sage appeared, pitying the premature death of people, he established governance methods and set regulations as preventive warnings, intending to relieve the sick and make the transmission of injury immortal. During the Han Dynasty, the physician Zhang Ji, courtesy name Zhongjing, emerged, and for the first time created Classic Formulas (Jingfang), establishing standards for prescription preparation. Its detail and conciseness were unsurpassable. Since the Han Dynasty, the number of formulas and herbs has been vast like a boundless ocean and chaotic like tangled hemp. It is like grain: only after removing weeds can good seedlings flourish; only after chaff is removed can fine rice be obtained. In the Han Dynasty, Li Zhuguo, an Imperial Physician, compared medical skills and formulas; in the Song Dynasty, Confucian scholars were ordered to correct medical books, yet errors still remained. After Zhang Ji, those who could follow ancient teachings and adhere to his rules, possessing miraculous arts for saving the world and effective formulas shining like gold and jade, include: Sun Simiao's *Qianjin Fang* (Prescriptions Worth a Thousand Gold) of the Tang Dynasty, with thirty volumes and five thousand three hundred formula discussions; Xu Shuwei's *Benshi Fang* (Formulas from Personal Experience) of the Song Dynasty, with twenty volumes, four hundred and forty-four formula discussions in the main edition, and one hundred and forty-six in the supplementary edition; and Wang Qiu's *Baiyi Xuanfang* (Selected Formulas for Hundred Needs) of the Song Dynasty, with twenty volumes and one thousand and forty-six formulas, widely benefiting the people, whose virtue shines through the ages, leaving formulas to be passed down for a hundred generations. However, from the Tang and Song dynasties until now, the years have been long, and manuscripts have deteriorated. Although carefully compiled works are extensive and grand, there are also many errors and corruptions. Moreover, regarding *Baiyi Xuanfang*, which had not yet been printed in our Eastern lands (Japan). Previously, during the disaster of the Wushen year in the Heian period, half of the old woodblocks for *Qianjin Fang* were burned to ashes. Furthermore, this spring I suffered another fire disaster, and my collected collated editions of *Qianjin Fang* became non-existent again. Therefore, I now respectfully present the collated editions of these two books. If there is even one error in the formula discussions, it may harm the people, which does not align with the intention of benevolence and compassion. I observe Your Majesty's benevolence towards the people and love for all things, your heart being consistent with that of ancient sage kings, issuing an edict to collate these three books. My nature is mediocre and dull, my insight obscure, and my study of antiquity shallow. I lack the ability to correct errors and merely pretend to contribute. Through proofreading and correction, consulting multiple versions, and extensively citing various books, I corrected errors and supplemented omissions, hoping to remove weeds and chaff. Although I am ignorant and ill-informed, I fear that omissions and mistakes may inevitably occur, leading to self-deception and misleading others. Reverently, Your Majesty's great virtue and deep benevolence benefit the universe, assisting Heaven and Earth in their creative work, truly a great fortune for the people and a profound grace for ten thousand generations. I am overwhelmed with gratitude. I, Weihe, respectfully submit this memorial for presentation, trembling with awe and fear, bowing deeply, performing a hundred bows, and reverently presenting it!
