For cases of nocturnal crying unresponsive to various remedies, the formula of Chancellor Ge is used.
Da Chuan Wu Tou (Aconiti Radix Lateralis Preparata, peeled and navel removed, raw use) Quan Xie (Scorpio, equal proportion to Wu Tou)
The herbs are chopped. Each dose is half a liang, boiled with two large bowls of water and fifty slices of fresh ginger until reduced to three or four parts. The dregs are removed, and the liquid is slowly administered by dripping into the infant's mouth.
Chen Sha (Cinnabar, ground) Qing Dai (Indigo Naturalis, ground) Tian Zhu Huang (Bambusae Concha, ground, each one qian) Quan Xie (Scorpio, five specimens) Tian Ma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma, one fen) She Xiang (Moschus, one zi, ground)
These are ground uniformly, mixed with fresh ginger and honey to form a paste. Each dose is the size of one soap pod or two soap pods, adjusted according to the infant's size. It is dissolved in fresh ginger decoction or mint decoction before administration.
This treats infantile fetal accumulation due to fright, intestinal torsion (pan chang nei diao), curvature of the body with backward gaze, incessant crying, or tidal wind-heat phlegm leading to sudden onset of acute convulsions. It also addresses vomiting and diarrhea transforming into chronic convulsions, limb spasms, crow-like crying, extreme spleen and stomach deficiency, inability to take milk and food. Regular use ensures the infant remains free from fright, sleeps peacefully, and improves appetite. Even in cases of wind-stroke sores and pox, it can resolve cold pathogens, vent toxins through the skin, and detoxify. For adults with numbness and stiffness of limbs, pain during movement, palpitations during sleep, and restless mind, take two pills according to the prescription, dissolving them before bedtime. Transmitted by Liu Wei, this is a secret formula from Zou Zai of Pingjiang.
Tian Nan Xing (Arisaematis Rhizoma Preparatum, processed) Bai Fu Zi (Typhonii Rhizoma, processed, each half a liang) Zhu Sha (Cinnabar) She Xiang (Moschus, each one fen) She Han Shi (Ophicalcitum, four large pieces, placed on the ground as per prescription, added to the medicine at the time of use)
Grind into fine powder. Prepare on the Dragon Boat Festival (Zhongwu). Mix with the tip of zongzi rice from three to five households to form pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take one pill per dose, washed down with mint decoction.
Transmitted by Qian Wenzi. This exists in Qian's Pediatric Formulas, called Deng Hua Gao, but originally used only one ingredient. This formula adds the following two ingredients.
Deng Hua (Lamp wick carbon/Charred lamp wick, seven pieces) Peng Sha (Borax, one zi) Zhu Sha (Cinnabar, a small amount)
Grind together until extremely fine. Mix with honey to form a paste. When the child is asleep, apply a small amount to the lips. Effect is immediate!
