Palpate from the upper angle of the scapula to the lower head of the scapula. There are four ribs and three spaces in between; moxa the middle space. Measure distance from the scapular edge, approximately width of a finger laterally, rubbing the bone to find the empty space between superficial ribs. Pressing should induce a sensation of traction in the shoulder. Moxa each side of the scapulae, one cone at a time, up to 600 cones, or up to 700 cones. Sensation of flowing water beneath indicates efficacy. If there is retained phlegm or chronic disease, it will drain out. If the patient is too weak to sit, have them lie on their side, pull the upper arm forward to locate and moxa. General rule: Use right hand from left shoulder, finding the unreachable spot; same for left hand. Otherwise, the scapula covers the point. Clothing must be consistent in size, otherwise scapular position shifts, losing the point. After moxa, Yang Qi becomes abundant; adjust self-nourishment to restore balance. The point is near the fifth thoracic vertebra, measured by Chancellor Quan's observation. Commentary: He Huan failed to save the Marquis of Jin because his disease was above the 'Gao' and below the 'Huang', beyond the reach of needles and herbs—this refers to this point. People cannot locate this point, hence chronic diseases are hard to cure. If one studies this method carefully, the correct point is found, and no disease remains uncured).
