Take internally with salt water decoction. For those with hemoptysis, take with *Bai Pi Tang* (Morus Alba Decoction). For various fistulas, first clean with salt water. For various sores, apply according to size using paper spreaders. Take one pill each time, freshly rolled the size of a cherry, coated with gecko (*He Jie*). The ointment can be stored for ten years without spoiling; the longer it is stored, the more potent it becomes. (Another method: For long-standing scrofula, treat as above. Clean sores with salt water and apply, take one pill with wine. For women with unregulated blood and qi, take one patch with licorice decoction. For sores, boils, swelling, pain, and tinea, add a little refined oil to the powder paste and apply.)
*Xuan Shen* (Scrophulariae Radix), *Bai Zhi* (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix), *Chuan Dang Gui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [remove rhizome], *Rou Gui* (Cinnamomi Cortex), *Da Huang* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), *Chi Shao Yao* (Paeoniae Radix Rubra), *Sheng Gan Di Huang* (Rehmanniae Radix Recens) [all cut into pieces, one tael each].
Soak the above herbs in two jin of sesame oil. Soak for five days in spring, three in summer, seven in autumn, and ten in winter. Filter out the dregs and boil the oil until black, then discard this oil. Filter the oil again. Then add one jin of lead monoxide (*Huang Dan*), stirring constantly with green willow branches until drops form beads in water and do not stick to the hands. Pour into ceramic vessels, cover with bricks, dig a pit, bury under tree shade, and cover with soil for three days to remove "fire toxicity." It can then be taken. Roll into pills the size of a cocklebur.
*Ru Xiang Gao* (Frankincense Ointment): Relieves pain, promotes discharge of pus and blood, eliminates toxic pathogens.
*Mie Bie Zi* (Semen Strychnos) [remove shell, grind finely], *Dang Gui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [one tael each], Willow branches [two chi eight cun, cut], *Ru Xiang* (Olibanum), *Mo Yao* (Myrrha) [half tael each], *Bai Jiao Xiang* (Boswelliae Resina) [four taels, clear quality, remove impurities and grind finely]. Use four taels of sesame oil. Slowly fry the first three ingredients until black. Add the ground medicines to the oil and melt. Filter through silk cloth to remove dregs. Clean the medicine pot thoroughly, pour the medicated oil back in. When warm, add one and a half taels of lead monoxide, stir well with two willow branches. Return to heat, frying while stirring constantly. When the oil boils and bubbles, stop stirring. Continue until drops form stable beads in water. In autumn and winter, make the ointment soft; in spring and summer, make it firm. Pour into a water basin to remove fire toxicity. Knead into a mass, store for use. Apply when needed.
*Jin Si Gao* (Golden Thread Ointment): Treats dysentery.
Clear oil [three taels, two taels in summer], Pine rosin [five taels], Beeswax [three qian half], Lead monoxide [two qian half], *Ru Xiang* (Olibanum) [half tael]. Fry the oil until color changes. Remove dregs. Add pine rosin, beeswax, and frankincense. Stir with locust wood branch, five hundred strokes in one direction. Add lead monoxide and boil until drops form beads in water. Pull in a water basin a thousand times. Store in ceramic vessels. Spread on oil paper and apply below the umbilicus. Adding *Cao Wu* (Aconiti Radix Preparata) and *Mie Bie Zi* (Semen Strychnos) yields excellent results.
*Lian Zi Cao Gao* (Celosia Ointment): Treats all types of wind-induced deafness, eye opacity, whitening of hair, strengthens ears, and prolongs life.
Celosia juice [thirteen sheng], Raw Sesame Wine [one sheng], Fresh Milk [one sheng, no dregs], Licorice [one large tael, powdered]. Mix and boil in a pot. Use gentle heat until small bubbles appear like fish eyes. Stir frequently without stopping. Wait until foam disappears completely. Clarify and filter, store in ceramic vessels. Another formula adds six parts Green Lotus Herb, three parts Dragon Brain Flower, and two parts Turmeric, all powdered, boiled first with the other medicines reducing by one part. Then add juices and oils. When the ointment is ready, lie supine with head hanging off the bed. Instill into each nostril the size of a mung bean. Saliva may accumulate; do not spit it out. After finishing, drink a little hot soup. After one year of application, white hair turns black, and bald areas regrow.
*Da Huang Gao* (Rhubarb Ointment): Treats arthralgia and masses in adults and children.
*Rhubarb* (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma), Mirabilite [equal parts]. Grind into fine powder. Mix with garlic paste to form an ointment. Spread on silk and apply to the affected area. The arthralgia will resolve spontaneously.
*Hei Hu Gao* (Black Tiger Ointment): Treats intestinal abscess, breast abscess, and bone疽. Take fifteen pills each time, size of sophora seeds. Take with licorice decoction or *Lou Lu Tang* (Euphorbiae Humifusae Decoction). Apply externally to the lesion. For red, painful, swollen eyes, take with tea water or garden balsam seed decoction. Also apply to both temporal acupoints. For retained placenta and blood stasis rushing to the heart in women, take with child's urine. For amenorrhea, take with safflower decoction.
Locust branches, Willow branches [seventy stems each, seven cun half long each], Croton seeds [eighty pieces, peeled], *Dang Gui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) [two qian], Semen Strychnos [five pieces], *Bai Zhi* (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) [three qian], Natural Pyrite [a small amount, powdered], Small Oil [one jin one liang], Lead Monoxide [eight taels]. Boil the small oil in a pot until boiling. Add the previous herbs and fry until yellow. Filter out dregs. Add lead monoxide and boil into an ointment.
*San Xian Gao* (Three Immortals Ointment): Treats traumatic wounds, abdominal pain, and diarrhea/dysentery; applicable both topically and internally.
Sesame oil [two jin], Lead Monoxide [one jin], White Croton Seeds [four hundred eighty pieces]. Heat the oil in a copper pot. Add twenty peach branches, fry until withered, then remove. Add twenty willow branches (two cun long each), fry until withered, then remove. Add croton seeds, fry until withered, remove, and let cool. Place in a clay pot, heat the oil, add lead monoxide. Stir evenly with alternating strong and weak fire for one and a half hours. Boil until lead rises, remove from heat and place on the ground. Stir again. Test with water drops forming beads; the ointment is formed. Flip the pot onto the ground. Usable after three to four days.
*Bi Xia Gao* (Emerald Ointment): Treats internal piercing pain.
Malachite [two taels, ground], Frankincense [two taels, ground], Myrrh [one fen, ground], Pine resin [four taels], Yellow Beeswax [one zi], White Boswellia [one and a half fen, ground], Sesame Oil [refined separately, increase in winter, decrease in summer]. First refine pine resin and filter dregs. Add white boswellia. Add sesame oil and stir evenly. Adjust hardness appropriately. Gradually add lead monoxide and stir evenly. Add frankincense, myrrh, and malachite powders, stir evenly, and cool. Store in ceramic boxes. Heat the medicine over fire, spread on paper, and apply to the lesion. Another formula adds one qian of Calomel.
*Mie Bie Zi Gao* (Semen Strychnos Ointment): Treats wind-cold-damp pathogenic factors affecting meridians, involving blood vessels, causing skin pain, nodules, spasms, or numbness.
Semen Strychnos [one tael, peeled and cut like mung beans], Frankincense [one qian, ground separately]. Soak one tael of Semen Strychnos in two taels of clear oil overnight. Slowly boil until reduced by half. Remove Semen Strychnos. Add one qian of yellow beeswax, stir evenly. Filter through silk to remove dregs. When nearing coagulation, add frankincense powder, stir constantly. Store in ceramic vessels. Apply a small amount to painful, hard, or clustered areas of muscle and skin. Keep rubbing until warm.
*Cheng Gao Yao Fang* (Standard Ointment Formula):
Thirteen taels of pure hempseed oil, one jin of rapeseed oil, seven taels of lead monoxide. Simmer the two oils in a pot over gentle heat. Stir constantly with a bamboo whisk. Until black. Increase heat and fan. Stir constantly. When smoke stops and foam clears, the ointment thickens and is formed. Must be prepared in a clean place. Do not allow chickens or dogs to see. Apply to tooth sores. Dress hemorrhoids.
*Jiu Chuang Gao* (Long-term Sore Ointment):
*Dang Gui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), *Fang Feng* (Saposhnikoviae Radix) [one tael each], Astragalus, *Shao Yao* (Paeoniae Radix), *Bai Zhi* (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix) [half tael each], *Ru Xiang* (Olibanum) [one fen], Lead Monoxide [half tael], Yellow Beeswax [one tael]. Use four taels of oil to fry the previous herbs. When color changes, add lead monoxide to form the ointment. Use wax to consolidate. Store in ceramic boxes.
*Fang Feng Gao* (Saposhnikovia Ointment): For moxibustion sores.
*Dang Gui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), *Fang Feng* (Saposhnikoviae Radix), Yellow Beeswax [one tael each], Lead Monoxide [half tael, calcined and fried]. Use four taels of oil. First fry *Dang Gui* and *Fang Feng*. When purple-black, add calcined lead monoxide and boil once or twice. Filter through silk. Add yellow beeswax to consolidate. To relieve pain, add one tael of frankincense.
Sesame Oil [half jin], Lead Monoxide [three taels], Frankincense [one tael], Willow Branches [one handful]. Prepare as usual. Boil until formed. Then add frankincense and stir evenly. Store in vessels.
*Sheng Ji Gao* (Flesh-Generating Ointment): Treats all moxibustion sores. Extracting pus is necessary for recovery.
