天地赋予正气，分布着晦明风雨的适宜节律；人禀受太和之气，却会有寒暑起居带来的病患。因此，劳逸的变化产生，损益如同牙齿更替般自然生长。
如果满足于成为神仙而服用丹药草木，必须选取那些枝柯叶片坚固、形体本质不变的植物，比如松柏、茯苓之类。其用意大概是以延年益寿为根本宗旨。至于服用的次序，不可紊乱。
老君益寿散（出自《圣惠方》）
白术（四两） 防风（一两，去芦头） 干姜（一两半，炮裂后锉碎） 细辛（三分） 桔梗（一两，去芦头） 云母粉 菊花（各二两，炮裂去皮）
春秋季节平服，六十日可显老态逆转之效。若能断绝房事，便可长生。
代茶新饮（出自《御药院方》）
黄柏、通草（各二斤） 茯苓、桑根白皮、干姜、干葛（各一斤） 鼠粘子根（二斤，湿加二斤） 枸杞（秤取大斤两，各别捣碎，用马尾罗筛过，不用细搅，令其均匀调重筛，务必使药性相入，不偏并。另取黄柏皮、楮白皮根，相兼细切，取浓汁，和搜令软硬适中，再于臼中捣，另作一竹卷子，围阔二寸半，厚薄二分以下，随时斟量大小浓薄制作。这也无定法，用手根据摸捻作成饼子，中心穿孔，日晒干，百余饼为一串，即用葛蔓为绳贯穿，竹篾亦可。挂在通风阴处甚妙。若需煮用，在炭火上炙令香熟，勿令焦。臼中捣末，任随时取足，煎以代茶。大都根据浓薄斟酌，加少许盐煮之，频捣即滑美。加盐、橘皮、荜茇，也很好。能除风破气，理丹石毒，补腰脚，聪耳明目，坚肌长肉，暖筋骨，通腠理。治头脑闭闷，眼睛疼痛，心虚脚弱，不能行步，其疗效不可言说。若患香港脚（脚气病），肺气上逆，疝气等症。

If one seeks to become an immortal by consuming elixirs and herbs, one must select plants whose branches, leaves, forms, and substances are firm and unchanging, such as pine trees, cypress trees, and Poria cocos (Fu Ling). The intent is fundamentally to prolong life and enhance longevity. As for the sequence of administration, it must not be disordered.
