[English Translation]
The five zang organs and six fu organs all contain jing essence. When the functions of the zang and fu organs are harmonious, jing essence is distributed and excreted normally. If the zang and fu organs decline, the physical form becomes extremely debilitated, causing shortness of breath. Internal emptiness of the five zang organs manifests as black and scorched teeth, falling hair, sadness or mood swings, blurred vision, deafness, unsteady gait, and heaviness of the body. These are all signs of "Jing Ji" (Extreme Exhaustion of Essence). However, regarding the syndrome of Jing Ji, if it presents as excess in the upper part, there is heat, and purging methods are appropriate; if it presents as deficiency-cold in the lower part, symptoms include heaviness, deafness, and unsteady gait. If pathogenic qi invades the zang organs, coughing with excessive saliva, facial edema, and rebellious qi occur. This is due to pathogenic qi reversing in the six fu organs and jue-ni (rebellious cold/heat) affecting the five zang organs. Therefore, the treatment method for Jing Ji is: for insufficiency of the physical form, warm and tonify with qi; for insufficiency of jing essence, tonify with flavor-rich substances. Treatment should be initiated when the condition is mild. If kidney qi fails, the qi of all five zang organs will fail, manifesting as abnormal eye movement and loss of spirit in the eyes. This indicates the death of Zhi (Will/Fear) first, and is incurable.
