When the Spleen Qi is obstructed and excessive, and there is heat in the Stomach, Yang Qi becomes hyperactive. Hyperactivity of Yang Qi leads to vexation and fullness in the chest and diaphragm; accumulation of phlegm-fluids results in vomiting and hiccups (or dry heaving). These conditions typically occur in individuals with strong physique and robust musculature, whose Spleen and Stomach have long accumulated internal heat, causing dysfunction of the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner), thereby inducing vomiting and hiccups.
