After childbirth, the qi and blood meridians are disordered. Lochia is not completely discharged. Wind-cold pathogens remain stagnant in the body and clash with the healthy qi. Therefore, masses form in the hypochondriac and abdominal regions, accompanied by pain. This is because after parturition, blood masses cause stabbing pain. This condition arises because during delivery, midwives rush to expel blood. Secular midwives often use the method of having the puerpera step on a pedal to drive out blood. They fail to consider that during labor, the puerpera has been sitting on grass for a long time. After delivery, the zang-fu organs are empty. At this time, driving out blood while close to the ground allows cold-dampness to invade and wind pathogens to enter. This causes failed stasis to coagulate into blood masses, which is called "blood mother". The rushing and attacking cause hard and painful sensations, which cannot be treated with herbs such as Ru Xiang (Frankincense), Mo Yao (Myrrh), Yan Hu Suo (Corydalis Rhizome), or Wu Ling Zhi (Trogopterus Dung). The treatment method involves using Bu Huan Jin Zheng Qi San (Golden Exchange Upright Qi Powder) added with La Gui (Spicy Cinnamon Twig), Chuan Xiong (Sichuan Lovage Rhizome), Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica Root), Peng Zhu (Curcuma Longa Rhizome), and Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger), decocted together. Add Fa Cu (Processed Vinegar) while hot. Take two doses consecutively. Once the cold-dampness and wind-cold pathogens dissipate, the mass will naturally disappear and exit through urination and defecation. For all new mothers, blood expulsion must be done on the bed, and the curtain should be lowered to avoid wind.
