论曰瘰 结核者。由风热毒瓦斯蕴积肝经。攻注筋脉。郁而不散。故项腋之间。结聚成核。
或如梅枣。或如珠颗。累累相连。其证令人乍寒乍热。头项肿痛。四肢不安。心神烦躁。盖
毒瓦斯与血气相搏。则营卫不和使之然也。其浮于皮肤之中。未着肌肉。可以药内消之。若肿
硬坚甚。不可消之。则以药外化为脓及血。令其溃散。则易愈也。

每服
拣取好皂角子软者三粒。食后临卧时细嚼津下。硬者捣烂蜜和丸如榛子大。含化。半月必瘥。
忌酒面熟毒物。
治瘰 结核。
养生方记载：采取蹲姿，双手从脚后跟插入地面支撑，弯曲双腿置于其上，抬起臀部。此法可用于行气，治疗瘰疬和乳痈。
（附论）
论述说：瘰疬结核，是由于风热毒邪蕴积在肝经，攻注于筋脉，郁结而不能消散，所以在颈项和腋下之间，结聚形成核块。有的像梅子、枣子，有的像珍珠颗粒，累累相连。其症状使人忽冷忽热，头项肿痛，四肢不安，心神烦躁。大概是因为毒邪与气血相搏，导致营卫不和所致。如果肿块浮在皮肤之中，尚未深入肌肉，可以用药物内服使其消散；如果肿胀坚硬严重，无法消散，则用药外敷化为脓血，令其溃破散发，这样就容易痊愈了。
方剂
五香散（出自《圣惠方》），治疗心膈间久积的热毒，肝气留滞，导致颈部生出瘰疬结核。
沉香、木香、薰陆香（各一两）、麝香（一分，细研）、丁香、羚羊角屑、子芩、赤芍药、玄参、当归、犀角、甘草、地骨皮（各三分）、连翘、升麻、麦门冬（去心）、大黄（微炒）、黄芩（锉碎，各一两）。以上药材研为散剂，加入麝香研磨均匀。每次服用三钱，用水一盏，加入芦根五寸、生姜半分，煎至六分，去渣，不拘时候温服。
[另一首] 治瘰疬结核。
黄芪（七分）、玄参（八分）、连翘、人参、升麻、青木香、茯苓、苍耳子、甘草（炙）、朴硝、桂心（各四两）、大黄、麦门冬（去心，五分）、羚角屑、鼠粘子、苦参（各九分）。以上药材研为末，用捣碎的蜜制成梧桐子大小的丸剂。酒送服十丸，日夜三四次，逐渐加量至二三十丸，以见效为度。忌食生冷、猪肉、海藻、菘菜、生葱、蒜、陈腐臭物等。
连翘汤（出自《圣济总录》），治疗男女老少颈部腋下生的瘰疬结核，伴有项强背痛。
连翘、玄参、木香、昆布（去咸味焙干）、枳壳（去瓤炒）、犀角（镑片，各一两半）、柴胡（去苗）、甘草（炙锉）、黄芩（去黑心）、沉香（锉）、当归（切焙）、木通（锉）、芍药、升麻。以上药材粗捣筛过。每次服用五钱匕，用水二盏，加入生姜一片、枣一枚拍碎、柳枝二寸长一握细锉，煎至一盏，去渣温服。空腹、日中、半夜、睡前各服一次。
琥珀膏（出自《圣惠方》），治疗颈部瘰疬。初起如梅子大小，肿结硬强，逐渐像连珠一样，或者穿穴流脓溃烂，脓汁不绝，经久难愈，逐渐形成漏疮。此方一并治疗。
琥珀（一两，细研）、丁香、木香（各三分）、桂心（半两）、朱砂（细研）、木鳖子（去壳，一两）、当归、白芷、防风（去芦）、木通（各半两）、黄丹（七两）、垂柳枝、松脂（二两）、麻油（一斤二两）。先用琥珀、丁香、桂心、朱砂、木香五味药研为末。其余药材细锉，用油浸泡一夜。在锅中用慢火煎，等到白芷焦黄时捞出。接着下入松脂末，滤去渣滓，再次澄清油液，放回锅中，用慢火熬制，下入黄丹，用柳木枝不停搅拌直至变黑，滴入水中成珠不散，看软硬适中。加入琥珀等末药搅匀，盛放在瓷器内。用时根据患处大小，用白绵纸均匀摊开贴敷。不贴数个即可立效，永不复发。
乌蛇丸（出自《圣惠方》），治疗瘰疬结成颗核肿胀，疼痛不散，或者破溃流脓水不止。此方立见奇效。
乌蛇（三两，酒浸去皮骨，炙微黄）、犀角屑、玄参、昆布（洗去咸味）、甘草（炙微赤）、枳壳（麸炒微黄）、天麻、郁李仁（汤洗去皮微炒去油，各三分）、连翘、牛蒡子（微炒捣碎）、大黄（微炒）、黄芪（锉）、漏芦（各一两）、斑蝥（一分，以糯米拌炒至米黄，去头足翅）。以上药材研为末，炼蜜和丸如梧桐子大。每次服用不计时候，用清米饮送下二十丸，不过数次即见效。
五香汤（又名五香连翘汤，出自《医方大成》），治疗一切结积热毒，结核瘰疬，痈疽疮疖等，立见大效。
沉香（一分）、连翘、射干、寄生（无可用升麻代替）、大黄（蒸，各三分）、乳香（一分）、麝香（一钱半）、丁香（二分）、甘草（二分）、青木香（一分）。以上药材切碎。每次服用四钱，用水一盏，煎至七分，空腹热服，以利出恶毒为度。本方有竹沥、芒硝，根据热毒轻重，当日添加减少。
丹参膏（出自《圣惠方》），治疗恶肉、恶核、瘰疬，风邪结聚的各种肿症。
丹参、蒴藋（各二两）、秦艽、独活、乌头、白芨、牛膝、菊花、防风（各一两）、芮草叶、踯躅花、蜀椒（各半两）、白术（一两）。以上药材切碎，用苦酒二升浸泡一夜，加入猪膏四斤，共同煎煮，直到酒干，不要煎焦。去渣，涂抹于各种疾病处，每日五次涂在旧布上贴敷。此膏也可以内服，若感到药效运行强烈则需少服。一方中有汉防己而无防风。
升麻散，治疗瘰疬结聚，颗块成疮，上攻头项疼痛。
升麻、玄参、败酱、犀角（屑）、虎杖、紫葛、桑根白皮、甘草（炙微赤，各一两）、连翘、大黄（微炒，各二两，等量使用）、红雪（每服一钱，汤成时下）。以上药材研为散剂。每次服用四钱，用水一盏，煎至六分，去渣，不拘时候温服。
犀角丸，治疗瘰疬结核。
犀角（屑）、吴蓝、黄芩（去黑心）、山栀子仁、巴豆（去心皮炒研出油，各半两）、升麻、黄芪（锉）、防风（去叉）、甘草（炙，各三分）、大黄（生锉，一两半）、连珠草（一两）。以上药材研为末，炼蜜和丸如梧桐子大。每次服用三丸，米饮送下。若未通便，加至六七丸，以通便为度。
三黄丸，治疗瘰疬肿毒，结成恶核。
大黄（锉炒）、当归（切焙，各一两）、栀子仁（一分）、柴胡（去苗，三分）、黄连（去须）、黄芩（去黑心）、赤茯苓（去黑皮）、桂（去粗皮）、干姜（炮）、芍药（各半两）。以上药材研为末，炼蜜丸如小豆大。空腹温酒送服十丸，每日三次，以微利为度，再酌情增减。
犀角丸，治疗恶核瘰疬。
犀角（镑）、木香（各一分）、硼砂（研，一钱）、白茯苓（去黑皮）、皂角（去皮子，酥炙）、干薄荷、大黄（锉炒，各一两）、原蚕蛾、何首乌、天麻（各一两）。以上药材研为细末，用精瘦生羊肉细切研成膏，和丸如黍米大。每次服用七丸，茶清送下，不拘时候。
丹参膏，治疗恶肉、恶核、瘰疬初肿。
丹参（炙锉）、白芨（各三两）、升麻、蒴藋根（各一两半）、独活（去芦头）、防己、连翘、白蔹、玄参、杏仁（去皮尖双仁，各一两）。以上药材细切，用生地黄汁一升，浸泡一夜。在锅中微煎十沸，加入猪膏四斤，微煎一顿饭的时间。膏成去渣，用于按摩患处，每日二三次。
斑蝥丸，治疗瘰疬结核肿硬，相连如珠颗，头项肩背烦疼。
斑蝥（一分，赤黑斑点者佳，去头翅足，炒过令香）、猪牙皂角（一分，去黑皮炙令黄）、蛇蜕皮（半两，微炙）、乌蛇（一两半，酒浸去皮炙令微黄）、天南星（半两，炮制去皮）、露蜂房（二两，烧灰）、大黄（三分，微炒）、麝香（一分，研）、威灵仙（半两）。以上药材研为末，加入麝香研匀，炼蜜和丸如梧桐子大。空腹以粥饮送下十丸，到辰巳时（上午7-11点），病处排出如蛤蟆衣及诸恶物。
丹参汤，治疗恶肉、核瘰疬，诸风气结聚，肿气诸病，一并治疗。
蒴藋、丹参（各二两）、甘草（炙）、秦艽、独活、乌头（炮）、牛膝（各一两）、踯躅花、蜀椒（各半两，去汗）。以上药材切碎，用水八升，煮取三升，温服一升。忌海藻、菘菜、猪肉、冷水。
连翘丸（出自《危氏方》），治疗瘰疬结核，未破或已破者。
薄荷（二斤，制取汁，新者）、好肥皂（一挺，水浸去皮治取汁，以上二味一处银石器内熬成膏，次之）、青皮（一两，不去白）、连翘（半两）、陈皮（一两，不去白）、黑牵牛（一两半，半生半炒）。以上药材研为末，用前膏子丸如梧桐子大。每次服用三十丸，煎连翘汤送下，食后服之，十日见效。一方用黄连煎汤送下。
四香饮（出自《圣济总录》），治疗气瘿结核未破者。
丁香、木香、沉香（锉）、乳香（各一两）、枳实（去瓤麸炒，半两）、青橘皮（汤浸去白，一两，焙）、陈橘皮（汤浸去白，焙，半两）。以上药材粗捣筛过。每次服用三钱匕，用水一盏，煎三四沸，去渣，食后温服，每日三次。
连翘散（出自《圣济总录》），治疗恶核肿痛瘰疬。
连翘、何首乌（米泔浸一宿焙）、干薄荷（各一两）、麝香（研，半钱）、升麻、恶实（炒）、白茯苓（去黑皮）、蛇蜕皮（酒浸炙，各半两）。以上药材研为散剂。每次服用一钱匕，食前温酒调下，每日三次。
犀角散（出自《圣济总录》），治疗男女瘰疬结核。
犀角（镑）、人参、鹿角（镑）、白蔹（各一两）、糯米（一合）、赤茯苓（男用白女用赤，各去皮一分）、斑蝥（三十枚）。以上药材研为细散，合研令匀。看患者大小斟酌与服。每次服用二十以上二钱匕，十岁以下一钱匕，并以蜜二匙、水二盏，同煎至一盏。先用滑石末调二钱匕，后调此散，夜卧时服。至明小便内取下恶物，三五日一服，取瘥为度。
白蔹散（出自《圣惠方》），治疗瘰疬结核，根源深固，肿硬疼痛。
白蔹（三分）、黄连（去须）、大黄、黄芩、莽草、赤石脂、赤芍药（各三分）。以上药材研为末，以鸡子白旋调涂于故帛上贴之，燥即易之。一方有吴茱萸。
五香汤（出自《宣明论》），治疗一切恶疮瘰疬结核，无首尾及诸疮肿用之。
沉香、木香、鸡舌香（各一两）、薰陆香、麝香（各三分）、连翘（一两半）。以上药材研为末细研。每次服用二钱，用水一盏，煎至六分，不拘时候。
玄参汤，治疗恶核瘰疬风结。
玄参、升麻、独活、连翘子（各三两）、木防己、菊花（各一两）。以上药材切碎，用水八升，煮取三升，分服一升，每日三次。
内消丸（出自《圣济总录》），治疗瘰疬初结，累累如梅李核，日渐不消，则破坏颈腋。
人参、玄参、丹参、何首乌（锉）、苦参（各一两）。以上药材研为末。别用皂角一十挺，以麻绳接续穿留索子头，盛在缸内，掘地埋饼子，留口，用童子小便浸三七日，如值雨下，即盖勿令着水，候日足取出，以水洗挂阴处令干。用薄荷四两、酒一升、童子小便半升，共前皂角同浸一宿，取出煎五七沸，倾出，以手按取汁，细布滤去滓，入药末一分，在汁内用文武火熬成膏，末二分入龙脑、麝香各半钱，同研匀，丸如梧桐子大。每次服用二十丸，空心、日午、临卧时薄荷茶汤下。
白蔹膏（出自《圣济总录》），治疗瘰疬息肉结硬。
白蔹、莽草（《外台秘要》作甘草）、玄参、木香、芍药、大黄（生，各一两）。以上药材研为末，以醋和如膏，涂帛上贴之，干极即易。
内消丸（出自《外科精要》），治疗瘰疬结核，热毒郁滞，服之内消。
青皮、陈皮（各二两）、牵牛（半斤，取头末二两）、薄荷（半斤）、皂角（半斤，不蛀者，去粒皮捶碎仁，以水一斗煮软揉汁去渣，熬成膏）。上将青皮、陈皮末并牵牛末和匀，用煎膏子和丸如绿豆大。每次服用三十丸，食后荆芥茶清温水皆可下。
紫葳散（出自《圣济总录》），治疗项上瘰疬如枣李核大者，先服。
紫葳（凌霄花是）、海藻（洗去咸焙）、瞿麦穗、牡蛎（研成粉，左顾者真）、甘草（炙，各一两）。以上药材研为细末。每次服用一钱半匕，食后白汤调下，每日三次。
神妙散（出自《圣济总论》），治疗瘰疬肿痛成疮。
牵牛子（炒，半生半熟）、青橘皮（汤浸去白焙）、栀子仁、地骨皮、玄参上等分为散。每次服用二钱匕，空心糯米饮调下。次日服后牛犀丸。
牛犀丸（出自《圣济总录》），消毒化结聚。
犀角（镑，半钱）、龙脑（研，半分）、麝香（研，半分）、红娘子（二十枚）、斑蝥（二十一枚，去头足翅，同红娘子豆面炒焦）。以上药材研为细末，用豆面糊丸如绿豆大。每次服用一丸，空心、日中、半夜、卧时腊茶放温下。服至十日，加至二丸。除淡饭烧盐外，余并一月肉食切忌。
治瘰疬结核肿硬疼痛。（出自《圣惠方》）
斑蝥（十四枚，去头足翅，糯米拌炒令米黄为度）、雄鼠粪（二十枚，微炒）。以上同研令细，入腻粉二钱，更研，以绿豆面入新汲水和丸如绿豆大。每次服用空心以麝香酒下三丸，觉腹内痛，便以硝石末一钱用酒一小盏煎一沸，温服。服药一炊久，大小便应有如雀卵汁一合以来，下者是效。宜服药补之。雄黄丸。
雄黄丸
雄黄（细研）、朱砂（细研）、麝香（细研）、细辛、人参（去芦，各半两）。以上药材研为细末，入研了药，令匀，炼蜜和丸如绿豆大。每次服用于食前以温酒下三丸。
螺子丸（出自《圣惠方》），治疗瘰疬结核肿硬。
小螺子（一十八枚，去尖微炒）、斑蝥（二十一枚，炒去头足翅）、雀儿粪（六十三枚，白色者微炒）、麝香（一钱，研细）。以上药材研为末，入麝香研令匀，以好豉一合，烂捣研和丸如绿豆大。每日空腹以葱茶下五丸。
治瘰疬结核不散。
腻粉（一钱，研）、精羊肉（二两，切细）、干姜（一钱）、凌霄花（取白微出，一两）。以上药材研为散，入腻粉都拌匀，以湿纸裹三五丸，重火煨熟，取出，作一服吃了，以温酒下，仍含生姜一片，恐吐，卧时服，至二更取下恶物，五日一般服。
治瘰疬结核，外贴令自出方。（出自《圣惠方》）
腻粉、粉霜、燕子粪（一分，微炒）、斑蝥（一分）。以上研细末，用腊月猪脂调匀，每用小豆大，安脐子上，用面糊纸封定五六七日，有脓水下，至半月日自出，速用生肌药贴之。
麝香散（出自《御药院方》），治疗瘰疬结核肿硬不消，疼痛。
麝香（半钱，研）、枳壳（二钱半，麸炒去瓤）、白丁香（二两）。以上药材研为细末。每次服用二钱，用温酒半盏调匀，食后日进一服。
皂角丸，治疗瘰疬满项不破，及结核肿者。
好皂角子（一升）、玄参、连翘（各一两）。以上用水五升，砂锅内慢火煎，水尽为度。每次服用拣取好皂角子软者三粒，食后临卧时细嚼津下，硬者捣烂蜜和丸如榛子大，含化。半月必瘥。忌酒面熟毒物。
治瘰疬结核。
Yangsheng Fang records: Adopt a squatting posture, insert both hands from behind the heels to support on the ground, bend the legs and place them on top, and lift the hips. This method can be used to promote the flow of Qi and treat scrofula (Luo Li) and breast abscess (Ru Yong).

It is stated that scrofula tubercles arise from the accumulation of wind-heat toxic factors in the Liver Meridian, attacking and injecting into the sinews and vessels, where they stagnate and fail to disperse. Consequently, nodules form and cluster between the neck and axilla. They may resemble plums or dates, or pearl-like granules, connected in chains. The symptoms include alternating chills and fever, swelling and pain in the head and neck, restlessness in the four limbs, and mental irritability. This is generally caused by the struggle between toxic factors and Qi and Blood, leading to disharmony of Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) Qi. If the swelling floats within the skin and has not yet penetrated the muscles, it can be dissipated internally with medication. If the swelling is hard and severe and cannot be dissolved, external medication should be applied to transform it into pus and blood, causing it to ulcerate and disperse, which facilitates easier healing.
Formulas
Wu Xiang San (Five Fragrances Powder) [from *Sheng Hui Fang*]: Treats chronic heat-toxin accumulation in the Heart and Diaphragm, stagnation of Liver Qi, leading to scrofula tubercles in the neck.
Chen Xiang (Aquilaria Lignum), Mu Xiang (Vladimiria Root), Xun Lu Xiang (Frankincense) (each 1 liang), She Xiang (Musk) (1 fen, finely ground), Ding Xiang (Clove), Ling Yang Jiao (Saiga Antler Horn shavings), Zi Qin (Scutellaria Root), Chi Shao Yao (Red Peony Root), Xuan Shen (Scrophularia Root), Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis), Xi Jiao (Rhinoceros Horn), Gan Cao (Licorice Root), Di Gu Pi (Cortex Lycii) (each 3 qian), Lian Qiao (Forsythia Fruit), Sheng Ma (Cimicifuga Rhizome), Mai Men Dong (Ophiopogon Tuber, heart removed), Da Huang (Rhubarb Rhizome, slightly stir-fried), Huang Qin (Scutellaria Root, sliced) (each 1 liang). Grind the above herbs into a powder, add She Xiang and grind evenly. Take 3 qian per dose, with 1 cup of water, add 5 cun of Lu Gen (Reed Rhizome) and 0.5 fen of Sheng Jiang (Fresh Ginger), decoct until 0.6 cup remains, strain, and take warm at any time.

Huang Qi (Astragalus Root) (7 fen), Xuan Shen (8 fen), Lian Qiao, Ren Shen (Ginseng Root), Sheng Ma, Qing Mu Xiang (Costus Root), Fu Ling (Poria), Cang Er Zi (Xanthium Fruit), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried), Po Xiao (Mirabilite), Gui Xin (Cinnamon Twig Center) (each 4 liang), Da Huang, Mai Men Dong (heart removed, 5 fen), Ling Jiao Xie (Antelope Horn shavings), Niu Bang Zi (Arctium Fruit), Ku Shen (Sophora Root) (each 9 fen). Grind the above herbs into powder, mix with pounded honey to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 10 pills with wine, 3-4 times day and night, gradually increasing to 20-30 pills, stopping when effective. Avoid raw/cold foods, pork, Hai Zao (Seaweed), Song Cai (Chinese Cabbage), raw Cong (Green Onion), Suan (Garlic), and stale/odorous foods.
Lian Qiao Tang (Forsythia Decoction) [from *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*]: Treats scrofula tubercles in the neck and axilla of men and women of all ages, accompanied by stiffness and back pain.
Lian Qiao, Xuan Shen, Mu Xiang, Kun Bu (Kelp, wash salt and roast dry), Zhi Ke (Bitter Orange Fruit, remove pulp and stir-fry), Xi Jiao (sliced, each 1.5 liang), Chai Hu (Bupleurum Root, remove seedlings), Gan Cao (Licorice Root, honey-fried and sliced), Huang Qin (remove black heart), Chen Xiang (sliced), Dang Gui (sliced and roasted), Mu Tong (Akebia Stem, sliced), Shao Yao (Peony Root), Sheng Ma. Coarsely crush and sieve the above herbs. Take 5 qian bi per dose, with 2 cups of water, add 1 slice of Sheng Jiang, 1 date (smashed), and 1 handful of Liu Zhi (Willow Branch, 2 cun long, finely sliced), decoct until 1 cup remains, strain, and take warm. Take one dose on an empty stomach, at noon, midnight, and before sleep.
Hu Po Gao (Amber Ointment) [from *Sheng Hui Fang*]: Treats neck scrofula. Initially like a plum, swollen, knotted, hard and strong, gradually becoming like linked pearls, or piercing holes with pus discharge, persistent for a long time, difficult to heal, gradually forming fistulas. This formula treats all such conditions.
Hu Po (Amber) (1 liang, finely ground), Ding Xiang, Mu Xiang (each 3 qian), Gui Xin (0.5 liang), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar, finely ground), Mu Bie Zi (Momordica Seed, remove shell, 1 liang), Dang Gui, Bai Zhi (Angelica Dahurica), Fang Feng (Saposhnikovia Root, remove radicle), Mu Tong (each 0.5 liang), Huang Dan (Lead Tetroxide) (7 liang), Chui Liu Zhi (Weeping Willow Branch), Song Zhi (Pine Resin) (2 liang), Ma You (Hemp Seed Oil) (1 jin 2 liang). First, grind Hu Po, Ding Xiang, Gui Xin, Zhu Sha, and Mu Xiang into powder. Finely slice the remaining herbs and soak in oil overnight. Simmer slowly in a pan. When Bai Zhi turns scorched yellow, remove it. Then add Song Zhi powder, filter out dregs, and clarify the oil again. Return to the pan, simmer slowly, add Huang Dan, and stir constantly with a willow branch until black. Test by dropping into water; it should form a bead without dispersing. Adjust hardness/softness appropriately. Add the Hu Po powder mixture and stir evenly. Store in a porcelain container. Apply evenly on white cotton paper according to lesion size. A few applications yield immediate results and prevent recurrence.
Wu She Wan (Black Snake Pill) [from *Sheng Hui Fang*]: Treats scrofula forming nodular swellings, persistent pain, or ulceration with continuous pus discharge. This formula yields immediate effects.
Wu She (Black Snake) (3 liang, soaked in wine, remove skin and bones, roast until slightly yellow), Xi Jiao Xie, Xuan Shen, Kun Bu (wash to remove salt), Gan Cao (honey-roast until slightly red), Zhi Ke (bran-roast until slightly yellow), Tian Ma (Gastrodia Rhizome), Yu Li Ren (Prunus Seed, wash in water, peel, slightly roast, remove oil, each 3 qian), Lian Qiao, Niu Bang Zi (slightly roast and crush), Da Huang (slightly roast), Huang Qi (sliced), Lou Lu (Euphorbia Root) (each 1 liang), Ban Mao (Mylabris) (1 fen, stir-fry with glutinous rice until rice is yellow, remove head, wings, feet). Wu Xiang Tang (Five Fragrances Decoction) [also known as Wu Xiang Lian Qiao Tang, from *Yi Fang Da Cheng*]: Treats all types of accumulated heat-toxin, tubercles, scrofula, carbuncles, sores, and boils. Yields significant immediate effects.
Chen Xiang (1 fen), Lian Qiao, She Gan (Belamcanda Rhizome), Ji Sheng (Viscum Branch, substitute Sheng Ma if unavailable), Da Huang (steamed, each 3 qian), Ru Xiang (Frankincense) (1 fen), She Xiang (1.5 qian), Ding Xiang (2 fen), Gan Cao (2 fen), Qing Mu Xiang (1 fen). Chop the above herbs. Take 4 qian per dose, with 1 cup of water, decoct until 0.7 cup remains. Take hot on an empty stomach, aiming to purge toxic matter. The original formula includes Zhu Li (Bamboo Sap) and Mang Xiao (Mirabilite); add or subtract based on heat severity on the same day.
Dan Shen Gao (Salvia Ointment) [from *Sheng Hui Fang*]: Treats malignant flesh, malignant nodules, scrofula, and various swellings due to wind stagnation.
Dan Shen (Salvia Root), Shuo Luo (Polygonum Vine) (each 2 liang), Qin Jiao (Gentiana Macrophylla Root), Du Huo (Angelica Pubescens Root), Wu Tou (Aconite Root), Bai Ji (Bletilla Rhizome), Niu Xi (Achyranthes Root), Ju Hua (Chrysanthemum Flower), Fang Feng (each 1 liang), Rui Cao Ye (Herba Siegesbeckiae), Zhi Zhu Hua (Rhododendron Flower), Shu Jiao (Sichuan Pepper) (each 0.5 liang), Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome) (1 liang). Chop the above herbs, soak in 2 sheng of Ku Jiu (Bitter Wine) overnight. Add 4 jin of Pig Fat (Zhu Gao) and decoct together until the wine is exhausted. Do not burn. Strain and apply to lesions. Apply to old cloth and patch 5 times daily. This ointment can also be taken internally; reduce dosage if strong movement is felt. One formula uses Han Fang Ji instead of Fang Feng.
Sheng Ma San (Cimicifuga Powder): Treats scrofula clustering, forming ulcers, attacking head and neck causing pain.
Sheng Ma, Xuan Shen, Bai Jiang (Patrinia Rhizome), Xi Jiao (shavings), Hu Zhang (Japanese Knotweed Rhizome), Zi Ge (Consolida Root), Sang Gen Bai Pi (Mulberry Root Bark), Gan Cao (honey-roast until slightly red, each 1 liang), Lian Qiao, Da Huang (slightly roast, each 2 liang, equal parts), Hong Xue (Red Snow/Sugar Candy) (add 1 qian when decoction is ready). Grind the above herbs into powder. Take 4 qian per dose, with 1 cup of water, decoct until 0.6 cup remains. Strain and take warm at any time.
Xi Jiao Wan (Rhinoceros Horn Pill): Treats scrofula tubercles.
Xi Jiao (shavings), Wu Lan (Isatis Leaf), Huang Qin (remove black heart), Shan Zhi Zi Ren (Gardenia Seed), Ba Dou (Croton Seed, remove heart/skin, stir-fry, grind, remove oil, each 0.5 liang), Sheng Ma, Huang (Astragalus, sliced), Fang Feng (remove forked tips), Gan Cao (honey-roast, each 3 qian), Da Huang (raw, sliced, 1.5 liang), Lian Zhu Cao (Lonicera Caulis) (1 liang). Grind the above herbs into powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 3 pills with rice drink. If no bowel movement, increase to 6-7 pills. Stop when purged.
San Huang Wan (Three Yellows Pill): Treats scrofula swelling/toxicity, forming malignant nodules.
Da Huang (sliced and stir-fried), Dang Gui (sliced and roasted, each 1 liang), Zhi Zi Ren (Gardenia Seed) (1 fen), Chai Hu (remove seedlings, 3 qian), Huang Lian (Coptis Rhizome, remove threads), Huang Qin (remove black heart), Chi Fu Ling (Red Poria, remove black skin), Gui (Cinnamon Bark, remove rough bark), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger, processed), Shao Yao (Peony Root) (each 0.5 liang). Grind the above herbs into powder, mix with refined honey to make pills the size of mung beans. Take 10 pills with warm wine on an empty stomach, 3 times daily. Aim for mild purgation, adjust as needed.
Xi Jiao Wan (Rhinoceros Horn Pill): Treats malignant nodule scrofula.
Xi Jiao (sliced), Mu Xiang (each 1 fen), Peng Sha (Borax) (ground, 1 qian), Bai Fu Ling (Poria, remove black skin), Zao Jiao (Tamarisk Fruit, remove skin/seeds, roast with butter), Gan Bo He (Dry Mint), Da Huang (sliced and stir-fried, each 1 liang), Yuan Can E (Silkworm Pupae), He Shou Wu (Polygonum Multiflorum Root), Tian Ma (Gastrodia Rhizome) (each 1 liang). Grind the above herbs into fine powder. Use lean raw lamb meat, finely chopped and pounded into paste, to bind pills the size of millet grains. Take 7 pills with tea liquor at any time.
Dan Shen Gao (Salvia Ointment): Treats malignant flesh, malignant nodules, initial scrofula swelling.
Dan Shen (roasted and sliced), Bai Ji (each 3 liang), Sheng Ma, Shuo Luo Gen (Polygonum Vine Root) (each 1.5 liang), Du Huo (remove radicle), Fang Ji (Stephania Root), Lian Qiao, Bai Lian (Pueraria Root), Xuan Shen, Xing Ren (Apricot Seed, remove skin/tip/double kernels, each 1 liang). Finely chop the above herbs. Soak in 1 sheng of Sheng Di Huang Zhi (Fresh Rehmannia Juice) overnight. Simmer gently in a pan for 10 boils. Add 4 jin of Pig Fat and simmer gently for the duration of a meal. Strain when done. Massage onto the affected area 2-3 times daily.
Ban Mao Wan (Mylabris Pill): Treats scrofula tubercles, hard swelling, connected like pearls,烦疼 (irritating pain) in head, neck, shoulders, and back.
Ban Mao (1 fen, red-black spotted ones are best, remove head/wings/feet, stir-fry until fragrant), Zhu Ya Zao Jiao (Toothpick Tamarisk Fruit) (1 fen, remove black skin, roast until yellow), She Tui Pi (Snake Slough) (0.5 liang, slightly roast), Wu She (Black Snake) (1.5 liang, soak in wine, remove skin, roast until slightly yellow), Tian Nan Xing (Arisaema Rhizome) (0.5 liang, process and remove skin), Lu Feng Fang (Honeycomb) (2 liang, burn to ash), Da Huang (3 qian, slightly roast), She Xiang (Musk) (1 fen, ground), Wei Ling Xian (Clematis Root) (0.5 liang). Grind the above herbs into powder, add She Xiang and grind evenly. Mix with refined honey to make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 10 pills with porridge drink on an empty stomach. By Chen/Si hours (7-11 AM), the lesion should discharge material resembling frog skin and other evil substances.
Dan Shen Tang (Salvia Decoction): Treats malignant flesh, nodular scrofula, various wind-Qi aggregations, swelling, and related diseases.
Shuo Luo, Dan Shen (each 2 liang), Gan Cao (honey-fried), Qin Jiao, Du Huo, Wu Tou (processed), Niu Xi (each 1 liang), Zhi Zhu Hua, Shu Jiao (remove sweat, each 0.5 liang). Chop the above herbs. Decoct 8 sheng of water to 3 sheng. Take 1 sheng warm. Avoid Hai Zao, Song Cai, pork, and cold water.
Lian Qiao Wan (Forsythia Pill) [from *Wei Shi Fang*]: Treats scrofula tubercles, whether unbroken or broken.
Bo He (Mint) (2 jin, process to extract juice, fresh), Hao Fan Zao (Good Soap Pod) (1 stick, soak in water, remove skin/process to extract juice). Combine the above two ingredients and boil in a silver/copper vessel to form a paste. Next, add Qing Pi (Green Tangerine Peel, 1 liang, keep white pith), Lian Qiao (0.5 liang), Chen Pi (Aged Tangerine Peel, 1 liang, keep white pith), Hei Qian Niu (Black Morning Glory Seed) (1.5 liang, half raw, half stir-fried). Grind into powder. Use the previous paste to bind pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 30 pills per dose, decocted with Lian Qiao Tang, after meals. Effective in 10 days. One formula uses Huang Lian decoction.
Si Xiang Yin (Four Fragrances Drink) [from *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*]: Treats Qi goiter/scrofula tubercles unbroken.
Ding Xiang, Mu Xiang, Chen Xiang (sliced), Ru Xiang (Frankincense) (each 1 liang), Zhi Shi (Immature Bitter Orange, remove pulp, bran-roast, 0.5 liang), Qing Ju Pi (Green Tangerine Peel, soak in water, remove white pith, 1 liang, roast), Chen Ju Pi (Aged Tangerine Peel, soak in water, remove white pith, roast, 0.5 liang). Coarsely crush and sieve. Take 3 qian bi per dose, with 1 cup of water, boil 3-4 times, strain, take warm after meals, 3 times daily.
Lian Qiao San (Forsythia Powder) [from *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*]: Treats malignant nodules, swelling/pain, scrofula.
Lian Qiao, He Shou Wu (soak in rice water overnight, roast), Gan Bo He (each 1 liang), She Xiang (ground, 0.5 qian), Sheng Ma, E Shi (Arctium Fruit, stir-fried), Bai Fu Ling (remove black skin), She Tui Pi (soak in wine, roast, each 0.5 liang). Grind into powder. Take 1 qian bi per dose, mixed with warm wine before meals, 3 times daily.
Xi Jiao San (Rhinoceros Horn Powder) [from *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*]: Treats male/female scrofula tubercles.
Xi Jiao (sliced), Ren Shen, Lu Jiao (Deer Antler, sliced), Bai Lian (each 1 liang), Nu Mi (Glutinous Rice) (1 he), Chi Fu Ling (Red Poria, males use white, females use red, remove skin, 1 fen), Ban Mao (30 pieces). Grind into fine powder, mix evenly. Adjust dosage by patient size. Take 20+ pieces (equivalent to 2 qian bi) per dose for adults, 1 qian bi for children under 10. Add 2 spoons of honey and 2 cups of water, decoct to 1 cup. First, mix 2 qian bi of Hua Shi (Talcum Powder), then mix this powder. Take before sleep. Bai Lian San (Pueraria Root Powder) [from *Sheng Hui Fang*]: Treats deep-rooted scrofula tubercles, hard/swollen painful nodes.
Bai Lian (3 qian), Huang Lian (remove threads), Da Huang, Huang Qin, Mang Cao (Asarum/Magnolia Herb?), Chi Shi Zhi (Red Halloysite), Chi Shao Yao (each 3 qian). Grind into powder. Mix with Egg White (Ji Zi Bai) and apply to old silk, patching the lesion. Change when dry. One formula includes Wu Zhu Yu.
Wu Xiang Tang (Five Fragrances Decoction) [from *Xuan Ming Lun*]: Treats all malignant sores, scrofula tubercles, regardless of stage, and various swellings.
Chen Xiang, Mu Xiang, Ji She Xiang (Cardamom), Xun Lu Xiang, She Xiang (each 3 qian), Lian Qiao (1.5 liang). Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, with 1 cup of water, decoct to 0.6 cup. Take at any time.
Xuan Shen Tang (Scrophularia Decoction): Treats malignant nodules, scrofula, wind aggregation.
Xuan Shen, Sheng Ma, Du Huo, Lian Qiao Zi (Forsythia Fruit) (each 3 liang), Mu Fang Ji (Stephania Tetrandra), Ju Hua (Chrysanthemum) (each 1 liang). Chop the above herbs. Decoct 8 sheng of water to 3 sheng. Divide into three doses of 1 sheng each, 3 times daily.
Nei Xiao Wan (Internal Dissolution Pill) [from *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*]: Treats early-stage scrofula, clustered like plum pits. If not resolving, it destroys neck/axilla.
Ren Shen, Xuan Shen, Dan Shen, He Shou Wu (sliced), Ku Shen (each 1 liang). Grind into powder. Separately, take 10 stalks of Zao Jiao (Tamarisk Fruit), thread with hemp rope, leave a handle end. Place in a jar, bury in ground with a brick leaving an opening. Soak in urine of a young boy for 3-7 days. Cover if raining to avoid water. When ready, take out, wash, hang in shade to dry. Mix with 4 liang of Bo He (Mint), 1 sheng of wine, and 0.5 sheng of boy's urine. Soak the dried Zao Jiao overnight. Remove, boil 5-7 times, pour out, press to extract juice, filter through fine cloth. Add 1 fen of herb powder to the juice. Simmer with medium-low fire to form a paste. Add 2 fen of powder containing Long Nao (Borneol) and She Xiang (Musk), each 0.5 qian, grind evenly. Make pills the size of paulownia seeds. Take 20 pills on an empty stomach, at noon, and before bed with Bo He Tea Soup.
Bai Lian Gao (Pueraria Root Ointment) [from *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*]: Treats scrofula polyps and hard knots.
Bai Lian, Mang Cao (*Waitai Mi Yao* lists as Gan Cao), Xuan Shen, Mu Xiang, Shao Yao, Da Huang (raw, each 1 liang). Grind into powder. Mix with vinegar to form a paste. Apply to silk and patch. Change when very dry.
Nei Xiao Wan (Internal Dissolution Pill) [from *Wai Ke Jing Yao*]: Treats scrofula tubercles, heat-toxin stagnation, dissolves internally upon ingestion.
Qing Pi, Chen Pi (each 2 liang), Qian Niu (Morning Glory Seed) (0.5 jin, take first flour, 2 liang), Bo He (Mint) (0.5 jin), Zao Jiao (Tamarisk Fruit) (0.5 jin, non-wormy, remove seeds/skin, crush kernels, boil in 1 dou of water until soft, rub to extract juice, strain, boil to paste). Mix Qing Pi, Chen Pi powders and Qian Niu powder. Bind with the paste to make pills the size of mung beans. Take 30 pills after meals with Jing Jie Tea or warm water.
Zi Wei San (Catalpa Powder) [from *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*]: Treats neck scrofula the size of dates/plum pits. Take first.
Zi Wei (Catalpa Flower), Hai Zao (Seaweed, wash salt and roast), Qu Mai (Dianthus Seed), Mu Li (Oyster Shell, ground to powder, left-facing is authentic), Gan Cao (honey-roast, each 1 liang). Grind into fine powder. Take 1.5 qian bi per dose, mixed with plain hot water after meals, 3 times daily.
Shen Miao San (Divine Wonder Powder) [from *Sheng Ji Zong Lun*]: Treats scrofula swelling/pain forming ulcers.
Qian Niu Zi (Morning Glory Seed, stir-fried, half raw half cooked), Qing Ju Pi (soak in water, remove white pith, roast), Zhi Zi Ren (Gardenia Seed), Di Gu Pi (Cortex Lycii), Xuan Shen. Equal parts, grind into powder. Take 2 qian bi per dose, mixed with empty-stomach glutinous rice drink. Next day, take Niu Xi Wan.
Niu Xi Wan (Ox-Horn Pill) [from *Sheng Ji Zong Lu*]: Disinfects and resolves aggregations.
Xi Jiao (sliced, 0.5 qian), Long Nao (Borneol) (ground, 0.5 fen), She Xiang (Musk) (ground, 0.5 fen), Hong Niang Zi (Red Lady Beetle) (20 pieces), Ban Mao (Mylabris) (21 pieces, remove head/feet/wings, stir-fry with red lady beetles and bean flour until scorched). Grind into fine powder. Bind with bean flour paste to make pills the size of mung beans. Take 1 pill on an empty stomach, at noon, midnight, and before bed with aged tea warmed. After 10 days, increase to 2 pills. Strictly avoid meat for one month except for light rice and roasted salt.
Treating Scrofula Tubercles Hard Swelling Pain [from *Sheng Hui Fang*]:
Ban Mao (14 pieces, remove head/feet/wings, stir-fry with glutinous rice until yellow), Xiong Shu Fen (Male Rat Feces) (20 pieces, slightly roast). Grind together finely. Add Ni Fen (Calomel) 2 qian, grind again. Bind with Mian Dou (Bean Flour) and fresh well water to make pills the size of mung beans. Take 3 pills with She Xiang Wine on an empty stomach. If abdominal pain occurs, take 1 qian of Xiao Shi (Niter) decocted in 0.1 cup of wine for one boil, take warm. After a meal duration, expect stool/urine resembling sparrow egg yolk (approx. 1 he). Discharge indicates efficacy. Follow up with tonic medicine. Xiong Huang Wan.
Xiong Huang Wan (Realgar Pill)
Xiong Huang (Realgar, finely ground), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar, finely ground), She Xiang (Musk, finely ground), Xi Xin (Asarum), Ren Shen (Ginseng, remove radicle) (each 0.5 liang). Grind into fine powder, mix thoroughly. Bind with refined honey to make pills the size of mung beans. Take 3 pills with warm wine before meals.
Luo Zi Wan (Snail Pill) [from *Sheng Hui Fang*]: Treats scrofula tubercles hard swelling.
Xiao Luo Zi (Small Snail) (18 pieces, remove tip, slightly roast), Ban Mao (21 pieces, stir-fry remove head/feet/wings), Que Er Fen (Sparrow Droppings) (63 pieces, white ones, slightly roast), She Xiang (Musk) (1 qian, finely ground). Grind into powder, add She Xiang and grind evenly. Mix with 1 he of Hao Chi (Good Fermented Soybean), pound and grind to bind pills the size of mung beans. Take 5 pills with Cong Cha (Green Onion Tea) on an empty stomach daily.
Treating Scrofula Tubercles Not Dispersing.
Ni Fen (Calomel) (1 qian, ground), Jing Yang Rou (Lean Lamb Meat) (2 liang, finely cut), Gan Jiang (Dried Ginger) (1 qian), Ling Xiao Hua (Catalpa Flower, white part, 1 liang). Grind into powder, mix Ni Fen evenly. Wrap 3-5 pills in wet paper, roast over high heat until cooked. Take as one dose with warm wine. Hold a slice of Sheng Jiang in mouth to prevent vomiting. Take before bed. Evil matter discharged by second watch. Repeat every 5 days.
External Patch Formula to Expel Scrofula Tubercles [from *Sheng Hui Fang*]:
Ni Fen, Fen Shuang (Sublimated Calomel), Yan Zi Fen (Swallow Droppings) (1 fen, slightly roast), Ban Mao (1 fen). Grind into fine powder. Mix with December Pig Fat. Apply pea-sized amount to umbilicus. Seal with flour-paste paper for 5-7 days. Pus discharge indicates effect. Self-extraction occurs by half a month. Quickly apply tissue-regenerating medicine.
She Xiang San (Musk Powder) [from *Yu Yao Yuan Fang*]: Treats scrofula tubercles hard swelling not resolving, painful.
She Xiang (Musk) (0.5 qian, ground), Zhi Ke (Bitter Orange, 2.5 qian, bran-roast remove pulp), Bai Ding Xiang (White Civet Cat Excrement) (2 liang). Grind into fine powder. Take 2 qian per dose, mixed with 0.5 cup warm wine. Take one dose daily after meals.
Zao Jiao Wan (Tamarisk Pill): Treats scrofula filling neck unbroken, and swollen tubercles.
Hao Zao Jiao Zi (Good Tamarisk Seeds) (1 sheng), Xuan Shen, Lian Qiao (each 1 liang). Decoct in 5 sheng of water in clay pot over slow fire until water is gone. Pick 3 soft good seeds per dose, chew thoroughly with saliva after meals/before bed. Hard seeds pound, mix with honey, make hazelnut-sized pills, suck slowly. Heal in half a month. Avoid alcohol, wheat products, and "cooked/toxic" foods.
