The disease termed "Feng" (Wind) is formed by the accumulation of Wind pathogenic factors. In some cases, it arises from changes in condition after an initial exposure to Wind fails to resolve promptly. The etiology of this condition involves sores encountering cold, resulting in incomplete discharge of pus, thereby leading to its formation. When the pathogen resides in the meridians and collaterals, the initial presentation resembles swelling; upon palpation or scratching with a covered hand, the skin may peel off, releasing reddish fluid. The swelling fluctuates, gradually becoming rooted and firm, adhering to the interstices of the bones, making it difficult to determine the onset and termination of the lesion. Subsequently, it ulcerates. If the lesion persists for fifty days without subsiding or ulcerating, it transforms into a hard, stone-like swelling, named "Shi Yong" (Stone Carbuncle). If left untreated for a long time, it causes alternating chills and fever, allows malignant qi to enter the abdomen, induces syncope and stabbing pain in the heart, and results in swelling of the throat and neck. Without early treatment, it can be fatal.
