This morning, the alternating chills and fever (alternating chills and fever) occurred again. The onset was relatively mild, vomiting has slightly eased, and the tongue coating has become thin at the tip. The wind-cold-damp-heat pathogenic factors received seem to have a mechanism of being secretly transformed, which appears to be a favorable sign. However, the pulse is wiry and slippery but carries an empty quality, indicating that the Yuan Qi (original qi) and Yang Qi (yang energy) are indeed internally deficient. With internal deficiency and existing pathogenic factors, it is imperative to adopt the method of supporting the healthy qi and resolving the pathogenic factors. This is done out of fear that the pathogenic factors will not be eliminated while the healthy qi is exhausted first.

The Second Master's illness involves external contraction of wind pathogen, with internal steaming of damp-heat, phlegm, and turbidity. This is what the ancients referred to as "complicated disease" (diseases with mixed pathogenic factors). How do we know this? When wind enters the Shaoyang (Shaoyang syndrome/meridian), it causes alternating chills and fever, with the pathology half in the exterior and half in the interior. When the pathogen exits and contends with Yang, chills occur, and one should not feel thirsty. When it enters and contends with Yin, heat occurs, and one should feel thirsty. Currently, when feeling cold, he prefers hot drinks; when feeling hot, he does not feel thirsty. Without the presence of damp-heat and phlegm-turbidity, how could this be so? Therefore, the tongue coating is fully distributed, the complexion is dull and stagnant, the pulse is slippery, and all present an empty and soggy quality. To dispel the wind pathogen, it is necessary to resolve dampness, transform phlegm, and clear heat to eliminate the complicated pathogenic factors, so that the wind pathogen can find its way out and not be held back by the complicated factors. However, heat arises from phlegm, and phlegm transforms from dampness. Even if one wishes to transform phlegm and clear heat, it is first appropriate to completely resolve the dampness. Jiayan (Yu Chang) stated: "Apart from assisting Yang, there is no other method to drive away dampness." This clearly indicates that warming and unblocking should be the main approach. In the future, the use of formulas such as Fuzi Lizhong Tang (Aconite Root and Poria Decoction) and Lianli Tang (Coptis and Licorice Combined Decoction) will follow a set pattern. The modifications and adjustments must be carefully considered according to the specific condition; flexible application lies with the judgment of the eminent physicians. If the complicated pathogenic factors dissipate day by day, but the malarial mechanism has not yet been resolved, Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) can still be used to harmonize. Or, if the chills and fever gradually lighten, following the principle without strictly adhering to the formula is also acceptable. However, the eminent physicians have their own insights, so there is no need for further words. This is merely written in response to the host's request.
The East generates Wind; Wind generates Wood; Wood generates Liver. The Liver resides on the left side of the human body and relies entirely on Blood to nourish it. It is a "Just Organ" (Gang Zang) whose root depends on Kidney Water to submerge and moisten it. Kidney Water is originally deficient below, and Heart Blood is further depleted above. The Liver loses nourishment and becomes rebellious, rising without descending. No wonder symptoms occur where blood returns to the Liver during sleep. The Hun (Ethereal Soul) fails to store, and Qi rebels instead. From the lower abdomen, it rushes directly to the chest and diaphragm, causing palpitations and bodily tremors. Wind arises from within. Initially, the Mother organ affects the Child organ (Kidney affecting Liver); subsequently, the Child organ affects the Mother organ (Liver affecting Heart). As stated, "All wind disorders involving tremors and dizziness belong to the Liver," referring to ascending Qi originating from the Liver. Such symptoms are examples of this. The Liver is called the "General Officer." Unless Qi is harmonized, it cannot descend to nourish Kidney Water or ascend to clear Heart Fire, thereby nurturing Wood. This still falls within the scope of specialized treatment of the Liver Meridian. Apart from the method of Pearl Mother (Zhenzhumu) by Academician Xu, who else can offer guidance?
