Coughing with a rapid pulse indicates the deficiency of Zang Yin (Yin substances of the Zang organs). Treatment should address both Metal (Lung) and Water (Kidney). However, observing the patient's complexion and pulse, there is fear that the condition may progress to consumptive weakness (Xu Lao).

Rapid pulse with coughing, night sweats, and aversion to cold indicate the deficiency of Ying (Nutritive Qi) and Wei (Defensive Qi).
A rapid and disordered pulse is a sign of Yin deficiency with Yang hyperactivity. Although only a few drops of blood are expectorated, during the spring and summer seasons when Wood and Fire energies are blazing, how can one ensure it will not recur?

A wiry pulse reaching the Yuji point indicates stagnant Wood and Fire that cannot be vented. The Yangming channel inevitably suffers damage from this; thus, slight discomfort after eating leads to abdominal distension, and hunger causes unbearable epigastric burning. It is appropriate to treat both the Liver and Stomach. The Liver Wood should be soothed, and the Stomach Fu organ should descend; this is the treatment method.

Yang is weak, and Yin turbidity rebels upward, initially causing cough and wheezing, followed by abdominal fullness and loose stools. This is what is meant by "wheezing must generate distension."
A fine pulse like a thread, emaciated form and spirit, cough with rebellious Qi, and significant decline of Lower Jiao Yang. The greatest concern is wheezing collapse. If the condition persists until the mild warmth of spring arrives, then safety can be assured.

Using Xie Bai San (Drain White Powder) was quite effective, but insomnia persists, and there is a burning pain in the center of the tongue, indicating Yin deficiency as well.

Effortful exertion has caused collateral stasis. In spring, ascending Qi agitates the collaterals; blood desires to overflow externally but fails to do so, while Qi returns and stagnates, causing abdominal distension and a burning sensation in the heart. Ancient texts state that treating blood disorders is best done by regulating Qi; when Qi is free-flowing, Blood descends. This is indeed sound reasoning.

Aversion to cold, palpitations, dizziness, and a feeling of bodily flaccidity indicate pathology involving the Wei, Ren, and Dai vessels. Due to blood seeping downward from the Dai vessel, the Extraordinary Vessels lose their source of irrigation. Over time, this leads to palpitations and lumbar spine issues. Early intervention is crucial.
