[Flavor and Nature] Bitter, neutral in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications] Primarily treats blood-breaking (resolving blood stasis), pain relief, treating metal weapon injuries (Jin Chuang), cane beat injuries, various malignant sores, hemorrhoids with fistula, sudden lower gastrointestinal bleeding, eye nebulae, dizziness, eyelid redness, and pain. Long-term consumption can relax sinews and tendons, unblock blood vessels, strengthen teeth, and promote the growth of beard and hair.
[Analysis] It is said: Myrrh originates from Persia and Hainan, and is now also produced in Guangzhou. Its tree roots and trunks resemble those of the olive tree. The leaves are green and dense. In older trees, resin oozes out and falls to the ground, condensing into lumps that are black in color and fragrant, resembling Benzoin (Anxi Xiang). The market often uses pine resin and asphalt to forge fake products for medicinal use, which causes significant harm.
[Commentary] Myrrh is a phonetic compound character. "Mo" (submerge/obtain) implies obtaining something from water; "Yue" (music/joy) refers to the rhythmic changes of bending and stretching, emerging from within and dispersing outward. Essentially, the body's essence, blood, marrow, fluids, as well as nasal mucus, saliva, sweat, and urine, all belong to the Water element. If there is pathology ("disaster") within this water system, the irrigating and nourishing functions fail, leading to immobility of sinews, lack of pulsation in vessels, failure of teeth to grow, and absence of hair growth. This is analogous to dance movements of bending and stretching failing to originate from within and disperse outward. The efficacy of Myrrh allows it to act like drawing from water, removing ocular nebulae, thereby enabling sinews to move, vessels to pulse, teeth to grow, and hair to lengthen, achieving natural freedom. How could there then be pathological manifestations such as masses (Zheng Jia), sores, hemorrhoidal fistulas, bad blood, or ocular membranes and eyelid redness originating from internal dysfunction and external dispersion?

[Flavor and Nature] Sweet, cold in nature, non-toxic.
[Indications] Primarily treats pediatric convulsions with opisthotonos (Tian Diao), clears various wind-heat, calms the heart and brightens the eyes, treats metal weapon injuries, and nourishes the five zang organs.
[Analysis] It is said: Bamboo yellow (Zhu Huang) grows in Tianzhu (India) and within the Yong bamboo of the South Sea. Also known as Tian Zhu, it appears inside the bamboo as a yellow substance resembling loess, adhering to the bamboo in patches. Common bamboo also contains it, and it is often found inside large modern bamboos. One must distinguish it from fakes made by burning bones and using Polygonum multiflorum starch.
My ancestors stated: The spirit of plants condenses in the center, thus it can enter the zang organs to treat internal stagnation. Its nature is originally hollow and unobstructed, allowing wind and fire to naturally subside.
[Commentary] Bamboo possesses characteristics of odd/even numbers and seasonal nodes, as previously discussed regarding bamboo. It matures in six years and undergoes renewal after a full sexagenary cycle (60 years). If Heaven uses six as its rhythmic unit, it is named Tian Zhu (Heavenly Bamboo). Tian Zhu refers to giant bamboo. When qi and fluids gather, the yellow center forms; similarly, Earth uses five as its regulatory unit. The interaction between five and six reveals conditions of excess and deficiency. Therefore, it primarily treats excessive Wood wind, which leads to rampant wind-heat, pediatric convulsions with opisthotonos, and mania caused by evil pathogens invading; or deficient Wood wind, leading to blindness due to liver orifice dysfunction, aphonia, and infantile epilepsy. When the central yellow function fails, the power of Bamboo Yellow ensures qi arrives appropriately to generate Yang, adapts to allow voice production, and regulates without excess or deficiency.
