非将军不能功胜五兵，非将军亦不能开辟土地，不唯尽雄黄功绩，并显大黄威武矣。
【气味】苦平，无毒。
【主治】主寒热，鼠 ，恶疮，疽痔死肌，杀精物恶鬼邪气，百虫毒，胜五兵。炼食之，
轻身神仙。
【核】曰∶出武都山谷、敦煌山之阳。武都，氐羌也，是为仇池。宕昌亦有，但小劣耳。

阶州接西戎界，出一种水窟黄，生山岩有水处，其石曰青烟石，曰白鲜石。雄黄出其中，有
孔窍，色深红微紫，体极轻虚，而功用更胜。水经注云∶黄水出零陵县西北，连巫山之溪，
出雄黄，颇有神异。尝以冬月祭祀，凿石深数丈，方采得，但凡雄黄色纯黄，似雌黄色而无
光明，或青黑而坚者，曰熏黄。气臭者曰臭黄，并不堪服。修治，每雄黄三两，用甘草、紫
背天葵、地胆、碧棱花各五两，细锉，以东流水，入坩锅中，煮三伏时，取出，捣如粉，水
飞，澄去黑者，晒干，再研用。其内有劫铁石，又号赴矢石，能劫于铁，并不入药用。

也。千金云∶妇觉有妊，作绛囊盛佩，易女为男，此转阳精旋于地产耳。鼠 曰寒热病；恶
疮疽痔，皆名死肌；百骸焦府，悉属地大故也。阴凝坚而黄中失，安能通理，雄力含弘而光
大之，可称大黄，大黄赋名将军，此足当之矣。故功胜五兵，杀精物恶鬼邪气，百虫毒为害
也。炼食之轻身神仙，地仙类耳。

如果不是将军，就不能取得胜过五种兵器的战功；但如果是将军，也不能仅仅用来开辟土地。这不仅仅是在彰显雄黄的功绩，同时也显示了大黄的威武气势。
【气味】味苦，性平，无毒。
【主治】主要治疗寒热病、鼠瘰（淋巴结结核）、恶疮、疽、痔以及死肌（坏死的肌肉组织），能杀灭精怪、恶鬼和邪气，解除百虫毒害，其功效胜过五种兵器。经过炼制后服用，可以使人身体轻健，甚至成仙。
【考证】曰：雄黄产于武都山谷和敦煌山的南面。武都是氐族和羌族的居住地，这就是仇池山。宕昌也有出产，但品质较小且较差。阶州连接西戎边界，出产一种“水窟黄”，生长在岩石上有水的地方，这种石头叫做青烟石，也叫白鲜石。雄黄就出产于其中，有孔窍，颜色深红略带紫色，质地极轻盈疏松，而药用功效更胜一筹。《水经注》记载：黄水从零陵县西北流出，流经巫山的溪流，产出雄黄，颇有神异之处。曾在冬季祭祀时，凿开岩石数丈深，才能采得。凡是颜色纯黄、像雌黄一样但没有光泽的，或者呈青黑色且坚硬的，称为熏黄。气味臭的称为臭黄，这两种都不适合服用。炮制方法：每用雄黄三两，配伍甘草、紫背天葵、地胆、碧棱花各五两，切碎，用东流水放入坩埚锅中，煮三个伏天那么长的时间，取出后捣成粉末，用水飞法研磨，澄清去掉黑色的杂质，晒干后再研细使用。其中含有劫铁石，又称赴矢石，能腐蚀铁器，不进入药用范围。
【释义】曰：“雄”意为大、武，统领群物；“黄”为中央之色，是男女生命初始的颜色。既雄壮又黄色，纯正而强健的就是它。《千金方》说：妇女感觉怀孕时，制作红色袋子盛装佩戴，可以使生女变为生男，这是因为将阳精旋转回归到地产之中罢了。“鼠瘰”指的是寒热病；恶疮、疽、痔，都称为死肌；全身骨骼脏腑，都属于地大的范畴。阴气凝结坚固而黄色中气缺失，怎么能疏通调理呢？雄黄之力含弘光大，可以称得上是大黄，大黄被赋予将军之名，这完全符合它的地位。所以它能战胜五种兵器，杀灭精怪、恶鬼、邪气和百虫毒害。经过炼制服用能使人身体轻健如神仙，属于地仙一类。

Without a general, one cannot achieve victory surpassing that of the five weapons; yet even a general cannot merely be used to open up new lands. This not only highlights the merits of Realgar (Xionghuang), but also reveals the majesty of Rhubarb (Dahuang).
[Flavor and Nature] Bitter, neutral, non-toxic.
[Indications] Primarily treats chills and fever, scrofula (shulou), malignant sores, carbuncles, hemorrhoids, and necrotic tissue (simi); kills spirits, evil ghosts, and pathogenic qi; counters venom from a hundred insects; its efficacy surpasses that of the five weapons. When refined and ingested, it lightens the body and leads to immortality.
[Evidence] It is said: Realgar (Xionghuang) originates from the valleys of Wudu and the southern slopes of Dunhuang Mountain. Wudu is inhabited by Di and Qiang tribes, which is known as Qiuchi Mountain. It is also produced in Dangchang, though the quality is smaller and inferior. Jiezhou borders the Western Rong and produces a type called "Water Cave Huang," which grows in mountain rocks where water exists. The stone is called Qingyan Shi (Green Smoke Stone) or Baixian Shi (White Fresh Stone). Realgar emerges from within it, possessing pores, with a deep red color slightly tinged with purple, an extremely light and porous texture, and superior medicinal efficacy. *Commentary on the Water Classic* states: Yellow River waters flow out northwest of Lingling County, connecting to streams in Wu Mountain, producing Realgar, which is quite miraculous. During winter sacrifices, stones were dug several zhang deep to extract it. Any Realgar that is purely yellow like female arsenic (Fuhuang) but lacks luster, or is greenish-black and hard, is called Xunhuang. Those with a foul odor are called Chouhuang; neither is suitable for consumption. Processing method: For every 3 liang of Realgar, use 5 liang each of Licorice Root (Gancao), Purple-Backed Tiankui, Digallus (Dichan), and Bilenghua. Finely chop them, place in a crucible with flowing water from the east, and boil for the duration of three Fu days (the hottest period of summer). Remove, pound into powder, process by water flotation (shuifei), clarify to remove black impurities, dry in the sun, and grind again for use. Among these may be found Tiejie Shi (Iron-Robbing Stone), also known as Fushi Shi, which can corrode iron and is not used medicinally.
[Interpretation] It is said: "Xiong" means great and martial, leading the masses; "Huang" is the central color, representing the beginning of male and female life. Being both vigorous and yellow, pure and healthy, it embodies this nature. *Qianjin Fang* states: When a woman feels pregnant, wearing it in a crimson pouch can change the birth of a girl to a boy; this is due to rotating Yang essence back into the earth. "Scrofula" refers to chills and fever diseases; malignant sores, carbuncles, and hemorrhoids are all named simi (dead flesh); the entire skeletal structure and organs belong to the element of Earth. When Yin凝 (coagulation) is solid and the central Yellow Qi is lost, how can circulation and regulation occur? The power of Realgar is expansive and brilliant, worthy of being called Dahuang (Great Rhubarb). Since Dahuang is bestowed the title of General, this fits perfectly. Thus, it can overcome the five weapons, kill spirits, evil ghosts, pathogenic qi, and harm from insect venoms. Refined and ingested, it lightens the body akin to an immortal, belonging to the category of Earth Immortals.
