Hot Spring, also known as Warm Soup.
Its nature is acrid (Pungent), hot, with slight toxicity. It treats various wind-induced tendon and bone contractions, as well as skin and flesh numbness (stubborn bi-syndrome), inability to move hands and feet, absence of eyebrows and hair, scabies, tinea, and other diseases located in the skin and joints.
Used for bathing. After bathing, one may feel extremely weak and exhausted; medicinal herbs and dietary supplements should be administered according to the condition to nourish the body. If there is no illness, it is not advisable to enter lightly. (Wang Ying said: There are hot springs in Mount Lu. Alchemists often advise patients suffering from scabies, tinea, leprosy, or yaws to eat a full meal before entering the pool for a long soak, stopping only when sweat appears, which leads to self-healing within ten days. Chen Cangqi said: Sulfur is present beneath the spring, heating the water, which retains a sulfur odor. Sulfur treats various sores, hence the water is suitable. However, at the hottest spots, pigs, sheep, and boiled eggs can be cooked. The water here often has a sulfur smell; bathing exposes the skin to intense heat. Only the Zhu Sha Spring on Huangshan in Xin'an is a cinnabar spring; in spring, the water turns slightly red and can be used to brew tea. The Li Shan spring in Chang'an is an alum stone spring and produces little odor. Although the Zhu Sha spring water is red, it is not hot, likely containing realgar. Springs near arsenic stones are toxic for bathing.)
A Well Water, sweet and salty in taste, neutral in nature. It descends to the diaphragm, disperses phlegm, and stops vomiting. A Well is located in Yanggu County, Yanzhou Prefecture, which was ancient Dong'e County. (Shen Kuo's *Brush Talks* states: Ancient texts mention the Ji River flowing underground. Now, wherever digging reveals water, it is flowing water. Dong'e is on the course of the Ji River. Its nature tends downward; the water is clear and heavy. When used to stir turbid water, it clarifies it. Therefore, water from Fan Gong Spring in Qingzhou, also fed by the Ji River, is used to make White Pills to benefit the diaphragm and resolve phlegm.)
Mountain Rock Spring Water, sweet in taste, neutral in nature. It treats dysentery-like symptoms (Huo Luan) involving restlessness, vomiting, and abdominal emptiness leading to muscle spasms (tendon twitching). To prevent toxins from entering the abdomen, it is advisable to drink this water frequently. (This method is called "washing the intestines." Do not let the abdomen remain empty; if empty, drink more. People fear this, but attempts have proven effective. However, for those with cold bodies and weak strength, care must be taken to avoid causing cold damage to the viscera; judgment should be exercised based on individual conditions.) This type of spring emerges from between rocks and soil in mountains, flowing into streams and ravines. (*Erya* states: Water emerging straight up is called Kan Spring; water hanging down is called Wo Spring; water flowing backward is called Fan Spring. These springs have distant sources and cold, clear water. Springs on mountains with jade stones and fine vegetation are good; those with black soil, poisonous stones, and noxious grasses are unusable. Lu Yu's *Classic of Tea* states: Water from rushing waterfalls and turbulent currents causes neck diseases if drunk. Wang Ying said: Once in Xunyang, hundreds of horses died suddenly in the city. Inquiry revealed that recent rains had washed out snake and insect toxins from the valleys, and the horses drank this contaminated water.)
