（蓖麻子）具有泻下、通窍拔毒、排出有形积滞物的功效。
味辛、甘，性热。其药性善于收敛，也善于走窜。能够开通各种窍道和经络。治疗风气引起的头痛。（疼痛剧烈难以忍受时，用乳香、蓖麻仁各等分，捣碎做成饼状，根据疼痛部位在左侧或右侧贴敷于太阳穴，可发散邪气，效果显著。）治疗口眼歪斜。（将药物捣烂，左歪贴右脸，右歪贴左脸，即可矫正。）治疗鼻塞耳聋。（将药物捣烂，用棉布包裹，塞入鼻腔或耳道。）治疗喉痹舌肿。（将蓖麻仁研成油，制成纸捻，点燃后冒烟熏蒸患处。）能够排出有形的积滞物。治疗针刺扎入肉中。（将药物捣碎敷于伤口处，频繁查看，刺拔出后立即去除药物，恐怕药物会将好肉也带出来。）治疗竹木骨刺卡在喉咙里。（与凝水石加倍比例混合，研磨均匀，取一捻药粉置于舌根，含咽下去，异物感自然消失。）能够消肿、排脓、拔毒。外敷治疗瘰疬和恶疮，以及一切肿毒。（颇有奇效。鹈鹕油能引导药力进入体内，蓖麻油能拔排毒气排出体外，所以许多膏药都多用此药。）气味与巴豆颇为相近。内服不可轻率尝试。形状像牛身上的蜱虫，黄褐色带有斑点。需用盐水煮，去皮后研磨。或者榨取油使用。忌用铁器。（《古今录验》记载：汤火烫伤，用蓖麻仁、蛤粉各等分，烫伤用油调涂，火烧伤用水调涂，有效；皮肤发黄但不发黑，用蓖麻仁香油煎至焦枯，去渣滓，三天后频繁刷涂有效；香港脚发作疼痛，用蓖麻仁七粒，研烂，同苏合香丸一起贴敷足心，疼痛立即停止。）
（贯众）具有泻热解毒的功效。
味苦，微寒。能够解除邪热之毒。治疗崩漏、淋证、带下病，产后血气胀痛，金创出血及鼻衄，破除症瘕积聚，透发斑疹痘疮。化解骨刺卡喉。（具有软坚散结的作用。）杀灭各种寄生虫。有毒但又能解毒，祛除瘀血而能促进新血生成。别名管仲，难道是因为读音相似吗？还是因为它有杂霸之气呢？根部类似狗脊但较大。汁液能制约三黄（黄连、黄芩、黄柏），化解五金，抑制钟乳石，凝结砂并制约汞。解毒软坚。（浸泡在水缸中，每天饮用缸中的水，能预防时疫流行。）
(Ricini Semen) has the effects of purging, unblocking orifices and extracting toxins, and expelling tangible stagnations.
Pungent, sweet, and hot in nature. Its action is good at astringing and also good at moving. It can open various orifices and collaterals. Treats headache caused by wind pathogen (when pain is unbearable, mix Frankincense [Boswelliae Resina] and Ricini Semen in equal parts, pound into a paste, apply to the Taiyang acupoint on the affected side to release the exterior and vent qi, which is very effective). Treats facial paralysis with deviation of mouth and eyes (pound into a paste, apply to the healthy side if the face deviates to the left, or to the left side if it deviates to the right, which will correct the condition). Treats nasal obstruction and deafness (pound into a paste, wrap in cotton, insert into nose or ear). Treats throat bi syndrome and swollen tongue (grind Ricini Semen into oil, make paper wicks, burn them to smoke the affected area). It can expel tangible stagnations. Treats foreign bodies like needles embedded in flesh (pound and apply to the wound, check frequently; remove the medicine immediately after extracting the needle, lest it pulls out healthy flesh). Treats fish or wood bones stuck in the throat (mix with twice the amount of Gypsum Fibrosum [Shuijing Shi], grind evenly, place a pinch on the root of the tongue, hold and swallow, the sensation of obstruction will naturally disappear). It can reduce swelling, promote pus discharge, and extract toxins. Applied externally for scrofula and malignant sores, and all kinds of swellings and toxic conditions (achieves remarkable results. Oil of Pelican can guide medicinal qi inward, while Ricinus oil can draw out toxic vapors outward, thus many plasters use it extensively). The flavor and aroma are quite similar to Crotonis Fructus (Badou). Internal use should not be taken lightly. It resembles a cattle tick, yellowish-brown with spots. Boil in salt water, peel, and grind. Or extract the oil. Avoid iron. (Gujin Luyan records: For scalds and burns, mix Ricini Semen and Arcae Concha powder in equal parts; for scalds, mix with oil and apply; for burns, mix with water and apply, which is effective; for yellowish skin that does not turn black, fry Ricini Semen in sesame oil until charred, filter the dregs, and brush frequently after three days, which is effective; for tinea pedis causing pain, grind seven Ricini Semens into a paste, mix with Suhexiang Wan, and apply to the sole of the foot, pain stops immediately.)
(Guanzhong / Cyrtomii Rhizoma) has the effects of purging heat and resolving toxicity.
Bitter, slightly cold. It can resolve toxicity from evil heat. Treats metrorrhagia and metrostaxis, stranguria, leukorrhea, postpartum blood and qi distension and pain, traumatic injuries with bleeding, and epistaxis. Breaks up masses and accumulations, promotes eruption of macules and pustules. Dissolves bone obstructions (has the ability to soften hardness). Kills various parasites. Toxic yet capable of resolving toxicity; removes stasis yet generates new blood. Also known as Guanzhong. Is it because the pronunciation is similar? Or because it possesses an aura of hegemony? The rhizome resembles Cibotii Rhizoma (Gouji) but is larger. The juice can restrain Sanhuang (Coptidis Rhizoma, Scutellariae Radix, Phellodendri Cortex), dissolve five metals, subdue Stalactitum (Zhongru Shi), condense cinnabar and control mercury. Resolves toxicity and softens hardness (soak in a water vat; drinking this water daily can ward off seasonal epidemics).
