止血有功。色黑入营内可服。行瘀无阻。辛温消肿外能敷。（墨烟煤合胶水所成。以松
烟者为佳。用陈者取其胶性渐脱。火气渐退。然内服总宜 用。方无胶滞之患。止血者不过
红见黑则止之意。毕竟辛温散血之品。如血热妄行之证。亦宜慎用。）
疗伤寒阳毒之邪。化积行瘀。斑狂从治。医疔毒疮痈等证。温通辛散。崩带宜求。
（百草霜此乃灶额烟囱内所熏之烟煤也。其质轻细。故为之霜。大抵辛温火化之物。其
色黑
。其体轻。能治上焦血分之疾。与釜脐墨等散血之功。主治相同。但有轻重之异耳。黑奴丸
之治阳毒斑狂等证。亦谓疫邪深入血分。用此从治也。）
甘平解百毒而除虫。绞痛因中州而成疾。（黄土须乡间高洁处。去上层污浊浮泥。掘
深一二尺。至黄土为佳。解毒杀虫之效。无出其右。其稼穑作甘之味。宜乎有益于脾胃也。

苦涩且微寒。能点痔而止血。热痰仗清化。可定痛以生肌。（孩儿茶用细茶末。入
竹筒中。坚塞两头。埋污泥沟中。日久取出。捣汁熬制而成块。小而润泽者为上。大而焦枯
者次之。生肌口疮等药。皆外治为多。内服虽有方法。亦不过藉其清化之力耳。然毕竟胶滞
之物。用者亦罕。）
头疮癣癞油风。调敷有效。性味辛温微毒。内服无功。（烟胶。此系煎硝牛皮灶上所
熏之烟煤粘结如胶者也。只堪外治。能润肌肤之燥。治浸淫之疮。杀虫化湿。颇有效验。）
（墨）具有显著的止血功效。其色黑，入营分内服可发挥作用；能行血化瘀而无阻碍。其性辛温，消肿之效外敷为宜。（墨由烟煤与胶水混合制成，以松烟者为佳。使用陈年墨是因为其胶性逐渐脱落，火气逐渐消退。然而内服时总宜选用特定类型的墨，方剂中才无胶滞的隐患。止血的原理不过是“红见黑则止”的意思，毕竟它是辛温散血的药物，如果是血热妄行的证候，也应当谨慎使用。）
（百草霜）治疗伤寒阳毒之邪，化解积滞、行血化瘀，对于斑疹发狂等证采用从治法。还可医治疔疮痈肿等病症。其性温通辛散，崩漏带下之症适宜寻求此药。（百草霜是灶台额部和烟囱内壁熏染而成的烟煤。其质地轻细，所以称为“霜”。大抵是辛温火化之物，其色黑，其体轻，能治疗上焦血分的疾病，与釜脐墨在散血方面的功效相同，主治也一致，只是有轻重程度的差异罢了。黑奴丸治疗阳毒、斑疹发狂等证，也是认为疫邪深入血分，用此药进行从治。）
（黄土）味甘平，能解百毒并驱虫，绞痛多因中焦脾胃而成疾。（黄土需选取乡间高洁之处，去除上层污浊的浮泥，向下挖掘一二尺，取深层的黄土为佳。其解毒杀虫的功效，没有能超过它的。其稼穑作甘的味道，适宜有益于脾胃。）
（孩儿茶）味苦涩且微寒，能点涂痔疮并止血。热痰依靠清化之力，可定痛并生肌。（孩儿茶是用细茶末装入竹筒中，两端严密塞住，埋在污泥沟中，日久取出，捣汁熬制而成块状。小而润泽的为上品，大而焦枯的为次品。生肌、口疮等药物，大多用于外治。内服虽有方法，也不过是借助其清化的力量罢了。但这终究是胶滞之物，使用者也很少。）
（烟胶）头疮、癣癞、油风等症，调敷有效。其性味辛温微毒，内服无功。（烟胶，这是煎硝牛皮灶上所熏染的烟煤粘结成胶状的物质。只可用于外治，能滋润肌肤之燥，治疗浸淫疮，杀虫化湿，颇有疗效。）
(Hei Mo / Ink Stick) It is effective in stopping bleeding. Its black color enters the Ying level (nutritive level), making it suitable for internal use. It moves blood stasis without obstruction. Its pungent and warm nature reduces swelling, making external application appropriate. (Ink is made by mixing soot with glue; pine-soot ink is considered superior. Aged ink is preferred because its gluey properties gradually dissipate and its fire qi (heat/toxicity) recedes. However, for internal use, specific types should be selected to avoid the risk of stagnation caused by glue in prescriptions. The hemostatic effect follows the principle that "red stops upon seeing black." Ultimately, it is a pungent and warm herb that disperses blood; therefore, it should be used with caution in cases of reckless bleeding due to blood heat.)
(Bai Cao Shuang / Soot from Chimney) It treats pathogenic factors of Yang toxicity in Shanghan (Cold Damage), resolves accumulations, moves blood stasis, and applies the method of treating opposite symptoms for conditions such as macules and mania. It is also used to treat Ding sores (deep-seated infections), carbuncles, and other lesions. Its nature is warm, unblocking, pungent, and dispersing, making it suitable for metrorrhagia and leukorrhea. (Bai Cao Shuang is soot accumulated on the lintel of the stove and inside the chimney. Its texture is light and fine, hence the name "frost." Generally, it is a product of pungent-warm fire transformation. Its color is black, and its body is light. It can treat diseases of the blood level in the Upper Jiao (Upper Burner). Its blood-moving efficacy and main indications are the same as those of Fu Qi Mo (Ink from the bottom of a cauldron), differing only in degree. Hei Nu Wan (Black Slave Pill) treats Yang toxicity, macules, and mania by addressing the epidemic pathogen that has deeply entered the blood level, using this herb for opposite treatment.)
(Huang Tu / Yellow Earth) Its taste is sweet and neutral, resolving myriad toxins and expelling parasites; colic often arises from disorders of the Middle Jiao (Middle Burner). (Yellow earth should be sourced from clean areas in rural settings. The upper layer of turbid floating mud must be removed, digging one or two chi deep to obtain the yellow earth. Its efficacy in detoxification and insect expulsion is unsurpassed. Its sweet flavor, associated with agriculture and grain, is naturally beneficial to the Spleen and Stomach.)
(Hai Er Cha / Child's Tea) Its taste is bitter and astringent, slightly cold. It can cauterize hemorrhoids and stop bleeding. For hot phlegm, relying on clearing and transforming actions, it can relieve pain and promote tissue regeneration. (Hai Er Cha is made by packing fine tea powder into bamboo tubes, sealing both ends tightly, burying them in muddy ditches for a long time, then taking them out, crushing them into juice, and boiling them into blocks. Small and moist blocks are of superior quality; large and scorched/dry ones are inferior. Medications for promoting tissue regeneration and mouth ulcers are mostly used externally. Although there are methods for internal use, they merely rely on its power to clear and transform. Nevertheless, being a sticky/stagnating substance, it is rarely used.)
(Yan Jiao / Smoke Glue) Effective when mixed with oil and applied externally for head sores, tinea, scabies, and seborrheic alopecia. Its nature and flavor are pungent, warm, and slightly toxic; internal use yields no benefit. (Yan Jiao is soot accumulated on stoves where cowhide is boiled with saltpeter, binding together like glue. It is only suitable for external treatment. It can moisturize dry skin, treat impetigo-like sores, kill parasites, and resolve dampness, showing considerable efficacy.)
