Non-toxic. Viviparous.
Lion feces: Burned and taken orally, it dispels evil spirits; taken internally, it breaks down old blood stasis and kills parasites (Recorded by the Famous Physicians. Note: *Wu Li Lun* states that the lion, also known as Suanni, is the leader of beasts. Its shape resembles a tiger, with bright yellow fur, slightly purple mane, copper head, iron forehead, hooked claws, and saw-like teeth. Its eyes shine like lightning, its roar sounds like thunder, and the tip of its tail has black tufted hair, large as a sheng measure; twisting it reveals a hook pointing downward capable of eating tigers and leopards. Females are identical in color and form but lack a mane. They are often bred in their native lands, hence the country's name, likely appearing due to the virtue of wise rulers extending to distant places. However, there are more than seventy species. The lions currently tributed from Samarkand and kept in cages match the description in *Wu Li Lun* exactly.) [Name] Suanni. [Season] [Not specified].
Calf umbilical cord residue: Mainly treats sudden bleeding from the nine orifices. Burned into powder and taken orally, one fangcun bi per dose. Collect it in advance from newborn calves that have not yet eaten grass, with yellow calves being superior. (Yao's Formula: Bleeding from the nine orifices and between the fingers/toes of limbs is caused by sudden fright. Take the umbilical cord residue from a newborn calf that has not eaten grass, dry it in the sun, burn it into powder, and take with water, one fangcun bi per dose, four to five times daily until cured. It is also said to be effective for nosebleeds and mouth bleeding.)
Musk deer gland (Lingmao yin): Pungent, warm, non-toxic. Mainly treats sudden onset of evil qi, flying corpse, gu poison, sudden heart and abdominal pain, and manic delusions attributed to ghosts/spirits. Used similarly to musk, with effects similar to musk. Born in the valleys of the South Sea, resembling a civet cat, hermaphroditic (or some say it is a different species called Lingli). *Yi Wu Zhi* records: The Lingli is a single entity possessing both yin and yang. Cut open its duct, place in a bag, sprinkle with wine, and dry in shade; its odor resembles musk. If mixed with true agarwood, it is hard to distinguish; used similarly to musk.
Thunder-struck meat: Non-toxic. Mainly treats night terrors in children and loss of mind in adults due to fright. Can also be made into jerky and fed to patients. This animal is struck dead by heavenly thunder. (Koukou, a beast name, also pronounced "Fufo qie"). Non-toxic. Drinking its blood causes one to see ghosts. It can also be used to dye red hair and serve as a wig. Originating from the Western Barbarians of the Southwest, resembling a monkey. During the Xiaojian era of Song, Wei Wenli, Magistrate of Anxi County, Gaocheng Commandery, Xiboshi Di, presented a male and female pair. Emperor Song said, "I heard Koukou can carry a thousand jun; if its strength is indeed so great, how could it be captured?" Local inhabitant Ding Luan replied, "When Koukou sees someone laughing, its upper lip covers its eyes. People drive nails into its forehead and let it run until it dies, then capture it. Its hair is very long and can be used for wigs; its blood can dye boots; its fur resembles macaques, with a human face, reddish color, capable of speaking human language and horse sounds (or bird sounds), and good at knowing life and death. Drinking its blood makes people see ghosts." The emperor was delighted and ordered artisans to draw its image, similar to descriptions in *Shan Hai Jing* and *E Ya*. *E Ya* states: Feifei resembles humans, runs swiftly with loose hair, eats humans, also called Xiaoyang. Locals also call it Shandu. Guo Jingchun wrote an eulogy (too lengthy to record here). Thinly slice the jerky with fat, heat it over fire, and apply to human flesh affected by tinea; the parasites should enter the jerky. After a short while, remove it; repeat three to five times for cure.
